Beyond the obvious deficiency at QB, what's left in terms of roster building? OC, K, RB, FS? Do we see more impact FA signings? A Gilmore trade? Any chance one of the top FA WRs signs a one-year make-good deal with the Pats? Are we all in for a QB in the draft or, if not, what position(s) should we be targeting in Round 1?

Re-sign Andrews, then on to the draft. I don't really want to see a Gilmore trade unless it's needed to secure draft capital to make a trade up for one of the top 4 QBs.

I hope they don’t repeat 2020!

In seriousness, I still see a JCJ or Gilmore trade to add draft capital. They need to address C and pass catching RB.

It may not be high anyone else's list, but I want them to figure out K. Are they counting on Rohrwasser rebounding from last year's disaster? Folk was fine last year, and can be brought back, but at his age I don't think having a repeat of his best (last) season is likely and I'd like a K that kick more a 40 yarder. Unfortunetly, its an underwhelming free agent market for K.

Folk was 13-15 from 40+. Did you even watch last season?

Folk was the most consistent player on the roster last year, yeah it's not ideal that you pretty much can't even try a kick from mid 50s or further because he doesn't have the leg, but he didn't miss a single fg after week 2 and was money on everything inside 45, he's way down the list of guys they should be looking to upgrade on right now.

Andrews is definitely #1 with a bullet for me, we saw how big a difference he was to solidifying the O line last year compared to 2 years ago.

Then the draft priorities (not necessarily the draft order wish list):
  1. QB
Trade JCJ or Gilmore and use the draft capital to draft Trey Lance.
Not disagreeing, but 15/46/capital from Gilmore/JCJ trade could turn into something like Micah Parsons/Alim McNeil/Demetric Felton or Jaylen Waddle/Creed Humphrey/Pete Werner. Those are some damn nice pieces ... if we can stomach another year of Cam.

  5. Backup C
  6. Pass-catching RB
  7. CB
TE? We just signed a 25 year old and have 2 guys YOUNGER than him that get a full offseason. I don't want to go there.

Then we're right back to no QB in 2022.

The difference between AAV and cap hit is significant. So, maybe?
I still think JV will break the bank to give Lawrence a #1 weapon but fun to think about.

I'd still love to take a crack at Curtis Samuel for a deal a bit less expensive than Golladay's.

I don't think there are any QB solutions in free agency. Just dart throws. I'm confident the pats will draft a QB: my money is on Kyle Trask.

Giardi says look for the Patriots to sign a RB in FA. Not necessarily a big money guy but someone

Wondering if Brian Hill may be in consideration for a low money plug in. Last year he finally got some run and emerged as someone who could catch the ball

Can we get this thread title updated? It’s 2021. Having every thread say 2020 or 2021 is so dumb. Half the FA threads are wrong. I also think the Thuney thread was deleted / merged which is also dumb because that was worthy of its own discussion: long time Patriot goes to rival / contender. I’m looking at you @SeoulSoxFan BBTL thread name consistency is pointless and looks even dumber with the wrong years attached. Stop over modding. No other forum on SoSH does this. Please, please stop.

3rd down RB, no? Early down rushing seems fine with Harris and Sony.

Jamaal Williams could fit the bill. Averages about 30 catches a year over his four years. Can run some: about 500 yards a year at about a 4 ypc clip. Will turn only 26 in a few weeks.

Where do they go from here? After yesterday the answer is obvious, DeShaun.

In reality, I think they try to re-sign Andrews and add some more depth pieces.

The poll shows 70% voting QB as biggest need left in free agency. Is there any QB in free agency that people are looking for? Or are you just voting on need in general?

The titles are updated.

The year prefix was started because that's what the posters were adding.

What I'm doing is just keeping the format consistent. Look at the other forums. You got "2020 This Topic" "That Topic for 2020-2021" "Some Other Topic for This Team 2021" etc.
I'd be happy to take this to PM.

WEEI said that the Pats are in on Leonard Fournette. I think he's a good player, but I wouldn't want them to spend ANY significant money on a guy like that. That's one place where I don't think they need to spend.

Thank you. I was looking for a place to post this, the forum is a mess and the thread titles suck.

I started the Thuney thread, I thought it was deserving of its own discussion but whatever I guess.

Ages of the players they acquired:

OL Trent Brown: 27
DT Devon Godchaux: 26
TE Jonnu Smith: 25
WR Nelson Agholor: 27
WR Kendrick Bourne: 25
DE Henry Anderson: 29
DB Jalen Mills: 27 (just a couple weeks away from 27...so...call him 27)
Edge Matt Judon: 28

So they haven't been signing aging veterans to high-priced contracts. These guys are all either in their prime or just entering it. That's very exciting.

We're hijacking this thread but this was part of your post on the Thuney thread:

"edit: I see it is covered in the catch all FA thread. Dopes delete or lock at your preference."

I'd be happy to un-delete it, of course.

Any chance JJ Taylor is the plan as 3rd down back? I liked what I saw, but the blocking isn't at same level as others. That role does need to be filled, but it is less strategic with Newton than it was with Brady, imo.

I'd be fine with their picking up a vet-min RB for just-in-case depth, but between JJ and the potential of this draft - Demetric Fulton, I'm looking at you, and not just you - I'd rather they sit tight.

I think it's highly unlikely that they pencil in a rookie in the third down role. Vereen and White basically redshirted. Maybe Taylor? Maybe they don't employ a third down back in the same way?

With the two-headed TE monster in place, I wonder if we will see more sets with 12 or 22 personnel where they audible into a run/pass depending on the defense. Henry and Smith will make it hard to know run or pass based on formation, so maybe more reliance on Harris and Michel catching balls out of the backfield, rather than signaling run vs pass by the presence of whichever RB is in there.

How many picks is Bill going to have to give away to bring Brady back as his next move :)
