Blake Griffin bought out and signs with the Nets.

I guess Durant is still a very excellent defensive player, but with Griffin on the floor with all the other guys - will the Nets win like 180-160?

Blake isn't going to start or likely close games, he's just a body at this point.

It will be interesting to see if his terrible play in DET was partly just not caring though. If he's really going to take 56% of his shots from 3 and 14% at the rim he's a significantly negative player.

Heard in the background that so and so reported Drummond going to the Nets. I wasn’t paying attention so it could have been Shams or it could have been Max Kellerman but it’s out there. The Nets continue to get more and more interesting.

Allen Robinson said it as a joke on twitter today.

Someone was probably just repeating it.

He may end up there if he gets bought out, but that would probably be after the trade deadline if it happens.

Anyone else surprised there wasn't a single deal consummated over the all-star break? Like, not one? Or, am I just really impatient? Deadline is 2 weeks away and feels like the activity beyond a few buyouts is going to be rather light. I'm sure part of that is the playoff structure but there should be a few clear sellers this year.

Well, the reason this thread was started was because of a deal made over the all-star break in Blake Griffin being bought out and signing with the Nets so...

Have to think this is a buyout situation. Spurs won’t want to take on additional years unless it’s a player worth building around. Aren’t too many good teams with that kind of expiring money to trade in return. Maybe Miami for Olynyk/Racial Slur guy? I dunno. Feels like buyout and he goes back to Portland situation.

Woj says they expect to make a trade

One thing is... the Knicks, whether they want LaMarcus, or just want to be the 3rd team, have a bunch of cap space, so if they want LaMarcus they only have to send out $7M, in a 3 way deal they might be able to send out even less, maybe just Alec Burks.

Oklahoma City is trading guard Hamidou Diallo to Detroit for forward Svi Mykhailiuk and a 2027 second-round pick, sources tell ESPN. We'll miss Hami. He has quite the motor.

Detroit adds a 6'5" guard.

Danny go get Delon Wright, we desperately need some on-ball and perimeter defense. No more Teague please.
Delon would at least challenge Kyrie and Shamet

Diallo is a nice rotation player but if you see him as core part of your future, I guess that makes you the last place Detroit Pistons
Who knows? He's much improved this year as a playmaker and a decision maker. He's an awesome athlete (former dunk champion), and scores more now that he's figured out how to get to the basket.

The who knows is the key part. I'm just sort of banging on the GM speak of talking a guy up. This is a nothing trade really. Two low end rotation players for one another.

Eh, Diallo could be the next Jerami Grant (who also did a stint with the Thunder). I don't think that's nothing.

I wouldn't mind one of these "nothing trades" from Danny. Even if the upgrade on the bench/rotation is small, that adds up.

Well sure, he could be. And Svi could be the next Duncan Robinson.

I like that teams make trades like this, in that they value guys differently. But the chances either of these players truly shine is quite small

This is a team that decided Christian Wood wasn’t part of their core.
Didn’t all teams decide this though? Wood was waived by the Bucks and Pelicans prior to Detroit throwing him into a trade. Prior to that he was let go by the Sixers and Hornets after being passed on by every team on draft night.....twice.

Difference being he had been legitimately very good for the Pistons, especially over the second half of the season when he was routinely putting up 20+ a night. Just about every smart NBA guy out there had him as the potential steal of free agency and the talent-bereft Pistons reportedly had little interest in retaining him.

He’s always had a ton of other issues in not having any idea how to play the game, shot selection, etc. Things seem to be clicking now for sure.

Diallo should at least be a rotation player. He also doesn't turn 23 until the offseason. I have no clue what he's going to cost but I wouldn't mind the C's trading Semi and a 2nd for him, which is probably the equivalent. Diallo has improved his playmaking, can somewhat create his own offense, has great size/length (6'5, 7'0 wing span, 8'7 standing reach), very athletic (lane agility time of 10.53 seconds), ridiculous vertical (40.5 inches), can get to the line, high motor. I'd much rather have him than Svi.

He does have his warts but I love the trade for Detroit. While he get to the line, he's not a very good FT shooter and he's not a good 3 point shooter. Who knows if he ever will be but I'd take the gamble at the right price. I'm not sure why OKC decided to make that trade. Maybe they just think he'll be too expensive.

Diallo is the exact type of guy the C's should be targeting. Cheap, young, rotational talent with the potential to become significantly more. Even if Diallo didn't take the leap, he'd provide 20 minutes of decent play off the bench.

If Langford was having Diallo's season, we'd be hyping him. Granted, Langford is a year younger and has the better pedigree but they have a similar profile. Diallo was incredibly raw going into the draft so he was harder to project.

I could easily see Diallo becoming a core piece in the way Marcus Smart is a core piece. I think he also has the potential to be much, much more. I doubt he reaches his absolute upside, but it's probably higher than anyone that's been mentioned as possible trade targets for the C's (outside of Beal).

A 2nd for Ariza (who sure seems like toast, but maybe he's good for a 10 minutes a game role) seems fair enough. OKC takes on Leonard's salary and baggage. Minor deal all around but fair enough.

Leonard is an expiring (club option for next year which maybe OKC picks up...but I doubt it) and he isn't playing so OKC is essentially getting economic relief (Ariza makes around $2mm more than Leonard) and a draft asset. Presti is really good at deals like this but sadly its out of necessity.

How so? Miami thinks it is competitive and is looking to upgrade. The Thunder are tanking and get a second round pick (plus another tradeable asset, Leonard).
Seems liek they could have gotten a better pick than a 2027 second, that's all.

Amd Leonard is not an asset in the slightest. The team option wil most assuredly be declined and wouldn't be surprised if he never plays a minute in the league again

Oh, I don't think that the Thunder see Leonard as a player to be an asset. But, his contract might be useful for other trades when it comes to salary-matching.

They have about 648 draft picks over the next seven years. They're going to make a fortune selling them on eBay.
that's so 2020, they have NFT'd the entire collection of picks. $69MM for Beeple is chump change.

It entitles the holder to start their own NBA franchise in Bangkok and conduct this summer's draft from a yacht in St Tropez with Adam Silver as the First Mate... #BITCOINBallers

I’d guess that nobody from OKC would even speak to Leonard directly. More like telling his agent to tell his client to stay home until further notice.

Don’t sleep on Miami either. They are finally getting healthy and crushing anyone who stands in their way for almost a month now.

Pretty much guaranteed if the Celtics pay the Heat in the playoffs Ariza will make a huge play to turn a game. I'm good with Danny not getting him, of course, we don't have a lot of extra picks after the Hayward trade, but this could matter for Miami.

We owe CHA two second round picks in 2023 and 2024, but BOS is owed a DAL/MIA/HOU 2023 second round pick as well as a 2025 second from MEM
