The online streams for TSH suck.

I had been listening on my Amazon Echo via TuneIn for a while without issue, but moved over to twitch when TuneIn would stop at random times during a show. Then the same thing happened to twtich and I moved back to TuneIn. Have had to restart TuneIn four times so far this morning, which is actually less often than usual.
I use Spotify, other than the same 3 commercials repeating, there's been no problems at all

Adam Jones is so bad that I just spent 5 minutes vigorously agreeing with John Wallach.
Bert Breer, in his own nice way, destroyed Jones today and his obligatory hot BB sucks takes. Utterly silenced him -- which was great to hear.

Lovely. The 5 minutes I was referring to was Jones vociferously advocating for a Harden trade. I mean, one can make a case for Harden, but not the way Jones did it.

You guys all need to just chill, put the feet up and shoot the breeze for a bit. You'll feel better. Y'all too uptight right now.

I swear if I hear that damn pizza commercial one more time...
“Your business was going great. But then... [ughh].”

Skip forward 30 seconds works quite well, but yeah, the commercials are annoying. I usually skip twice at the top of the hour to avoid Fred reading everybody’s social media handle for the millionth time.

My favorite repetitive ad was over the summer - a promo for Mass Golf. But the way Hardy (I think?) read it, it sounded like “Mask Off”. At first I though Schilling was buying ad time...

I've been trying to remember which commercial was the first super annoying one, you just reminded me. The insurance one is getting there too. Remember the good old days when there were no commercials until the last minute, minute and a half of each hour?

You guys know Tom, the GOAT, Tom Lahey, the Insurance GOAT. Between that and Ryaaaaaaaaaannnn I'm good.
that one and the one with the RMV/insurance nonsense.

Separately, is Joe Murray as bad as I think he is? Most of the time it seems like he’s barely paying attention - unless it’s about gambling. Especially when he does the updates. Just checked out and lazy.

So many people on this board like him, I just don't get it. He's a hot take idiot.

So as a Joe Murray defender, this is kinda how i feel like lately. especially on Twitch where he's on camera he seems checked out. It's weird because when John and Fred were out for long stretches over the last year, he wasn't like that. It seems recent. He's getting a real shot at time on one of the largest shows in the market and his effort seems to be far less than it was. I don't think he's a hot take idiot, I like him but there seems to be some issue.

@DSG77, Fred's back tomorrow and Thursday I believe and then back out on Friday.

The rent-a-friend thing that Rich just ran was both hilarious and incredibly frightening. I have no idea how he finds this stuff.

I wasn't listening earlier in the show, but Fred's rant about the rioters, and Belichick, at 9:40am today was fantastic.
It was equally good earlier in the show. Pointing out all the randos who received the award was a perfect touch.

I went back and listened to the last 20 minutes or so of the show on demand, and glad I did. Classic Fred.

Agreed, only caught part of it though. I wonder if they will give some air time to the others involved

Seriously, does Fred enjoy anything that more than 3 people like (besides The Office)? It really seems like he just looks for reasons to dislike anything popular

No. Fred enjoys nothing.

Side note: During a segment of Shootin' the Breeze a few weeks back, Fred mentioned he was interested in doing a podcast and having young Nicholas producing it. I think that would be great. Hope it eventually happens.

Did he mention what it would focus on? He's an interesting dude, so I'd probably check it out if it was structured like Russillo or Simmons pods where he could dive deeper into sports topics or interviews without the restrictions of radio. He and Russillo seem pretty similar, so I like the idea the more I think about it.

No, he is the definition of a contrarian and gets angry if you try to point that out. It also could just be shtick. Having said that, I actually love when he goes on those type of rants against what is "popular". Always hilarious and must listen radio.

Such an obvious troll that it was almost funny. As cartoonish and over the top as his Davis or Flynt impressions.

Love Fred, but that Pats rant was predictable and boring. Building it off of the TV ratings was kind of weird logic. I didn't find it to be particularly interesting radio.

Fred has been tourtued by the pats and the pats fans for 2 decades as a Jets fan. He has been waiting a long time for this downfall to come. I guess let him bask in the glory for a little bit but it’s kind of odd to be doing it on a Boston sports radio station.

Have you listened to Boston Sport Radio? They delight in trying to make their fans miserable or work them up into rage against their teams/players. It used to not be as obvious how trolling it was when the teams were average to crappy, always just missing out, but once the last 20 years happened, you are either blind* or just revel in it.

* blind in the sense that there are very few sports media personalities that are here to actually inform and get stuff right, most are just shit stirrers and contrarians which has become super super obvious to anyone paying even a small bit of attention. The informers ones are so rare that they get lauded for it. Best I can think off of the top of my head is how quickly Mike Reiss rocketed up the media landscape when he showed up.

I happened to be in the car so was listening to the show from 6 to a little after 9. It was fine at first, but by the time he was repeating himself going on the 4th full segment with the same discussion it was well beyond played. Though the segment with the Red Sox Truck Day video made up for some of it, they had me nearly in tears laughing at that.

You also have to remember that he isn't a guy who wanted to be a sports reporter or commentator his whole life. He came up as a rock morning show guy and was basically forced into being a sports talk show host in the Boston market in the middle of a historically successful period. I think he and Rich are best at what they did before: the weird comedy bits interviewing weirdos they found, making up dumb contests (What's Tappening?, Miroslav Satan or Satan?), making fun of odd things they find. The sports talk is both their core actual job now, but also what they're worst at. It's a weird situation I'm sure. And being a Jets fan in the middle of a Patriots/Brady splooge-fest for this long when you have no internal desire to be the impartial sports commentator has got to be annoying. He goes an a grouchy rant here and there and then gets back to business. I don't expect the rants to make sense, and sometimes they are funny, and overall I don't expect him to be impartial or even coherent when it comes to the topic. Just find another episode of dating on demand, dammit!

Very weird, indeed.
What channel was the Patriots game on this week??
Also, high ratings =\= rooting for one team per se. how many tuned in to root against Brady? Granted, I’m sure it’s a small number but it’s not zero

And would it shock anyone to learn that folks in TB are less interested in football or more likely to ignore protocols by gathering for SB parties (ie, less TVs on the telecast)?

Of course, the fact that T&R didn't set out to be sports radio hosts is precisely why they're the best at it in the market.

I enjoy Fred with the guiding principle of “if it’s funny or unhinged, I don’t care if it’s accurate”. The Pats fan rant started out squarely in that territory - I didn’t agree per se, but it’s fun to hear him go off. But he wore me out / lost me. I don’t think most Pat fans are the vociferous Twitter people he’s really ranting about. Nor do I think it shows a lack of character to watch the Super Bowl and potentially pull for Brady. It seemed like an obvious “sports debate” keyfabe-style narrative that the show has often refreshingly eschewed. But yeah, I’m really in it for the interviews (which they are great with - especially Gorman and Ainge), and obviously stuff like Fart Court, 911 calls, and digressions into hair metal. When they are doing stuff you could imaging on Felger or EEI, I definitely tend to drift. The Patriots fan rant was that.

I appreciate Fred mentioning that Adam Jones is going to be co-hosting next week. Gives me the weekend to cue up 5 days worth of podcasts to listen to in the morning.
