Why is Chrome / my CPU so slow?

If I try loading multiple tabs in Chrome, it takes up a ridiculous amount of CPU usage. I only have a couple extensions - AdBlock, Gmail notifier, WalkMe, Windows 10 Accounts, and Symantec. The last three of those are work-mandated. My laptop is nearly three years old and I'll be getting a new one through work in the next couple months, but it is ridiculously slow right now. Why is the fan running so much and everything working so slowly? Chrome is even slow when it's the only thing I have open.

Thoughts??

Thanks in advance.

Chrome does a very shitty job at tab management. So that’s normal.

i can have 8 tabs open and my fan goes into overdrive

If you go into the Task Manager, you will see dozens of chrome tabs running. It seems the only way to shut them all down is to close all of Chrome periodically and then restart the building process using only new tabs.

Yeah I have one tab open right now but Task Manager is showing me 16 processes for Chome. Do I just go and shut them all down and close Chrome and then pull back open one tab and it will only be one process?

I believe so. I just use the stop process key, and it ends many, but at some point you hit the active one and Chrome shuts down the active window, too.

No.
1. Chrome now uses separate processes for every tab, but with even just one tab open you will find around 12 processes running. It is a gross memory hog.
2. You have not told us what cpu and how much memory you have. If you're running an i3 or something even weaker (like any chromebook) and only 4 Gig or ram, it's guaranteed to be a slug.

Sorry it's a Dell i7-7600 CPU @ 2.80 GHz with 7.9 GB memory
Hmm, that's more than enough power, no reason why Chrome should be a slug. Suggestion: install Vivaldi, which is a Chromium based browser, if it performs better then there is something very wrong with your Chrome install or some Extension in it's setup. There's no good reason to use Chrome itself unless you actually want everything you do to be surveilled and mined by Google, as well as being forced to less effective adblocking in their latest iterations.

Thanks, I switched from Firefox to Chrome a few years ago due to performance issues, maybe I'll give Vivaldi a shot.
