Not a big fan. Eschewing tradition for something that looks like a church league kids basketball uniform.

Also, there is no need to have both "Boston" and "Celtics" on the uniform. It's gauche.

They still have the traditional home whites and road greens. This is an alternate jersey. The only thing I don't know is if this is in addition or replacing the black uniform which really grew on me. I really like that look.

I'm all for alternates, new looks, etc., - I generally like new unis more than most here (e.g., Oregon) - but I simply don't like this. Too much wording.

Don't understand why they would go with white as an alternate when they already have a white uniform.

I've never liked the alternate jerseys the past, but I don't mind these at all. I didn't read the text of the tweet, but the full "Boston Celtics" and way the vertical green stripes on the sides form a border immediately made me think of this:

A once-in-a-while jersey that doesn't replace our classic home and road motifs, while immediately calling to mind a championship banner?

Sure.

At a minimum, they're a SIGNIFICANT upgrade over last year's alternates. I hated those like no other uniform...that lettering...ugh.

They wanted to make a uniform look like the banner so of course it would be white. They previously made those horrible green and gold uniforms when they already had a green. All teams have made a new alternate and have gone in different directions doing so.

Between putting Boston and Celtics, the number, the Nike swish, and an advertisement, the front is a cluttered mess.

Better than the black jerseys. WAY better than the green jerseys with the gold lettering.

They're not bad.

EDIT: And bring back black shoes, dammit.

I may have to find a new team to root for if the Celtics go forward with this design.

I love it! It's like a lo-fi version of a uniform - nobody will take them serious. Then BAM: Tatum. You don't get him in church league!

They have one of the greatest home unis in sports. Why mess with them? Especially with something so awful.
And they wear the traditional home and away jerseys far too infrequently. Alternate jerseys should only be worn a few times a year and certainly not in the playoffs. Black shoes are never coming back, sneakers are way too important to players and kids.

Looking around the league at other team's alts, we could do much, much worse. I was just thankful last year with all the "town" jerseys that the Celtics didn't get saddled with "Beantown", because you know somebody had to have floated it.

The teams themselves don't even control what they wear or when they wear it. The league sends each equipment manager a schedule of what uniform they will wear on what day.

Yeah, the days of "team shoes" are over at almost every level of basketball. The players are going to wear what they want. At the college level, as long as you are wearing the supplier that sponsors the school each player will get to choose what kind of shoe they wear. Most schools make a rule that they have to be in the color scheme of the school.

I don't get why the league wouldn't want a marquee franchise wearing a classic jersey. They wore black jerseys way too much.

Thirsty = wanting

I think he means a "too banner hungry" display.
Yup, you go it.
Extra thirsty since they Lakers just won. I think this was the reason behind it and it looks a bit insecure.

On the upside, I won't miss the green jerseys with the terrible font.

Big upgrade on the gold lettering and the curvy script. I prefer the standard old style like most old farts are likely to, but if you're going to have an alternate, these are fine. The callback to the banners is kind of cool

This is absolutely what it's referencing, and as a result I think they're great, as far as alternate jerseys go. Most suck out loud.

I like the ball (from the banners) that they added along the waist. To be honest, I like these jerseys. Count me in the minority, I guess.

I know I'm stating the obvious, but the whole point of any alternate jersey is for younger fans to run out and buy one.

They would be better served to lose "Boston" and keep the green piping and "Celtics", which wouldn't be half bad, as opposed to what they actually rolled out, which is half assed.

There are four uniforms you should never, ever mess with; Canadiens, Packers, Yankees and Celtics.

But I'm old, so there you go.

These uniforms were in the works long before the Lakers won a title.
Okay but it doesn't look like that to the rest of the world who just saw the Lakers win and here comes the bitter East Coast guys who look like sore losers now. Then again, the whole concept is thirsty and never should have proceeded. If the Canadiens did this the year after a Maple Leafs banner we'd say the same.

I think they're better than the shitty green with gold lettering city jerseys or whatever they called them. But they still mostly suck.

What do you think they should have done with an alternate uniform then? The new alternate is a league-wide thing so you can't say just go with the traditional ones. Go look at some of the other teams' uniforms and see what they did. The Magic did an orange uniform with pinstripes for example. I'd take this look over a lot of them. Other teams did really cool ones like San Antonio and Philly.

Actually, the Canadiens Reverse Retro jersey that just came out is outstanding, and I'm saying that as someone who despises the Candiens.

I like these more than the previous City Edition alternates. It’s at least a cool concept for an alternate jersey to highlight the franchise history through the banners.

I would like to see what they would look like if you took the concept a step further and put a border around the numbers to mimic the retired number banners:

where I was last at
I'm a traditionalist, I like the old home whites and road greens.

I thought the black uni was allright, but didn't like the Irish pub ones.

The new "whites" shown above are ugly, and suck as a marketing tool for one of America's great sports franchises

But at least we can understand why Gordo opted out.

I'm not a fan of them either, just like I am not a fan of the Yankees, but I do respect what both organizations have accomplished over the years.

I haven't seen the retro jersey yet, I'll check it out, don't like the Bruins one.

I somewhat like the LA Kings one, wish they'd go back full time to the purple and gold uniforms with the kings crown logo on the front.

I remember the first time I saw it in person at the garden as a kid, my Dad used to take to Bruins games all the time, thought it was a cool looking uniform, just like the first time as a kid I saw the Oakland A's uniforms in person at Fenway, especially those white cleats.

White Spot Built cleats were a thing when I was in high school, our entire team my junior and senior years in high school had them.

But again, what do I know, I'm old.
