Never heard of her (of course, I don't know who any PR directors are for any team in any sport, anywhere in the world, so it's not just her).

Any chance there's more to the story than what it appears on the surface?

Maybe the reporters liked her because she gave too much info? Maybe she was an anonymous source?

Just because the reporters liked her doesn't mean there isn't an issue internally.

The issue internally is Jack Easterby putting his stamp on every aspect of the Texans rebuild. The "culture fit" could be that Easterby wants a management structure predicated on his professional and personal beliefs. He left the Patriots, in part, over the Kraft fiasco, and said this earlier about his philosophy

"Character and the kind of people you hire is something that our country is in desperate need to get back to evaluating," Easterby told USA TODAY Sports in 2018. "Unfortunately, sometimes it matters most when we count it the least. And when we evaluate it the least, it matters most. It’s tough, but we have seen a lot of businesses and industries fall because of a lack of character.
"One of the things we’ve seen come up in our culture lately — from the (Harvey) Weinstein case and so many others — we’ve seen that choices matter."

Ugh, sounds like someone pining for the "good old days". I don't like to generalize about people without meeting them/hearing about them, but his holier than thou "character counts" shtick rings a bit hollow when he bad mouths his employer, leaves, comes back for a ceremony, eats from the hand of the same employer he badmouthed and tampered with team employees while he was at the ceremony. Fuck Jack Easterby and his entire ilk.

I mean, maybe. But a guy shitting on Weinstein probably isn't pining for the "good old days" in the same way Weinstein is.

Is he shitting on Weinstein? To many people (too many people), "choices" in that context means HER choices. Like what she was wearing, or who she agreed to have a drink with.

There's nothing wrong with creating a management structure that aligns with your professional beliefs. In my experience, it's critical so long as you are still encouraging diversity of thought and ideas. You do not want an organization staffed with assholes.

I think it's abundantly clear that his comments are directed at Weinstein and his enablers, not at his victims.

Easterby & Co are well within their rights to hire and fire as they chose. It's the attempt of trashing her with "cultural fit" as they shove her out the door that is astonishingly inept.

Meanwhile

It's anonymous sources reporting that she's no longer a "cultural fit." This isn't the Texans organization trashing her. We have no idea how she has behaved or the environment that she promotes. The media loves her, sure, but that doesn't mean she isn't a jerk.

J.J. Watt, who worked closely with Palcic, reacted on Wednesday to the firing.
“I think you can tell from the universal response from people in the business what type of person Amy is. … Just really good at her job. Cared a lot. … I think it’s a very difficult loss,” Watt told reporters on Wednesday afternoon.

It's easy for me to understand someone being good at their job and caring a lot being fired. In my role, I've unfortunately had to fire one or two people like that. Phenomenal with customers. Extremely articulate. But they were jerks. Or weren't comfortable with the direction that the company was moving and voiced it improperly.

Guess it may seem like I'm shifting the goal posts -- and maybe I am -- but the world isn't perfect. Being good at your job, even really good, sometimes just isn't enough.

How is it "abundantly clear"?

"...It’s tough, but we have seen a lot of businesses and industries fall because of a lack of character. One of the things we’ve seen come up in our culture lately — from the (Harvey) Weinstein case and so many others – we’ve seen that choices matter.” Weinstein's lack of character shocked the industry and destroyed his businesses. It's referenced as an example of how a lack of personal character can be a business's undoing. The assumption is that someone with character would not be a predator.

It's the first time I've seen harvey weinstein's sexual predation described in terms of "choices." Otoh, the victims of sexual predation are often the ones accused of making bad choices.
Maybe Easterby was just sloppy in his word choices.

Easterby and Watson both have ties to Dabo. I wonder if they can get him to jump.

Yes. He is.

To think he isn't-PUBLICLY-is amazingly obtuse.

Regardless, you don’t compare someone to Weinstein unless they’re a rapist. It’s like going to a gallery and saying that person is a shitty artist. Like Hitler.

Companies that hired (or whatever the correct term is in the movie industry) Weinstein and put him in situations that enabled him to wield his power. You’re making this more complicated that it is.

Fair enough. Maybe I was thinking too much about his actions companies he was in charge of -- not really hired. Ultimately (obviously?), I think Easterby is a snake. But he can hire and fire whoever he wants.

That is awful. Baker got cut and lost a year of his career and potential earnings over this.

I'll check in as one of the local Giants fans. First of all - the DeAndre Baker situation is a shame, but from a purely on-the-field standpoint it doesn't change the fact that he was terrible as a rookie. Yes, plenty of rookie DBs struggle and then go on to have good careers, but he was looking like a total bust. I'm not too upset about the Giants losing him over the legal stuff.

As for today's news - good. Columbo sounds like he was an insecure asshole and it's starting to look like his success with Dallas was probably just a result of having elite players. I'm amused by the stuff about how the line has improved recently - maybe a bit when it comes to the run game, but they are still an absolute disaster in pass protection. I know everyone loves looking at the turnovers and raw stats to shit on Daniel Jones, but if you've actually been watching the games the last two years, you'd know that he almost never gets a clean pocket with ample time to throw. It's just constant pressure.
