That doesn't feel like a Mount Rushmore movie, but I'm sure it'll be a great episode regardless.Looks like Rocky 4 coming Monday.

Rocky 4 is definitely the better rewatchable. But I would submit that Rocky 3 would be even better than 4. In the end, a movie like Pulp Fiction or Goodfellas feels like a Mount Rushmore kind of movie. Rocky 4 is not, in my opinion.Rocky 4 is way more rewatchable than Rocky. This is the Rewatchable Mount Rushmore, right?
Rocky is a better movie, sure, but it is a real drama, Rocky 4 is more like an action movie.
Rocky is ALSO incredibly Rewatchable though. I’d have honored it first.Rocky 4 is way more rewatchable than Rocky. This is the Rewatchable Mount Rushmore, right?

In the Rewatchables community the Mount Rushmore of remaining films are Goodfellas, Boogie Nights, Pulp Fiction and Almost Famous.Rocky 4 is definitely the better rewatchable. There's a lot more, too. Raiders of the Lost Ark would, to me, be way more of a Rushmore movie than Rocky 4. There Will Be Blood. Heck, Star Wars or Empire is better. But Simmons has been talking about Rocky 4 specifically for years in his columns. So I guess it's a Rushmorian movie for him.In the Rewatchables community the Mount Rushmore of remaining films are Goodfellas, Boogie Nights, Pulp Fiction and Almost Famous.
Is Rushmore a Rewatchables Mt. Rushmore?
If you are doing a Rocky rewatchable and have to pick one, I agree that johnmd that Rocky 3 is the right answer. I would go:
1. Rocky 3 (Clubber Lang + the Rocky/Creed bromance is awesome)
2. Rocky (the OG)
3. Rocky 4 (
4. Rocky 2
5. Rocky 5 (just don't)
I am not including the Creed movies (which I really enjoyed, particularly the first one) or Rocky Balboa (which I thought was fine) because they feel separate to me.
So completely accurate. This, and movies he just likes. More than half of the movies they do I think “Really? You’ve watched ‘Unfaithful’ over and over? How many times are you actually watching ‘Spotlight’? You have made a habit of revisiting ‘A Perfect Storm’?”Rewatchables is only occasionally, tangentially about quality. It's core aesthetic is movies that Simmons would stumble onto on TBS hungover on the couch on Sundays in his 20s.
Simmons went into Mallory's office and said "I have an idea for you...Binge watch all the GoT episodes and do a deep dive podcast on all the history, etc. with JC ahead of season 7." It was entirely his idea and likely driven by his relationship with HBO. He never watched the show really until like season six.So completely accurate. This, and movies he just likes. On the same token, they don’t cover what he doesn’t like. They’ll never do the MCU, which is why they let “Binge Mode” go bananas on that. “Raiders” is a great suggestion, but it’s not in Simmons’ wheelhouse so it won’t happen (at least with him on it). He once referred to “Temple of Doom” as “Raiders 2,” which tells you how much he cares about Indiana Jones.
To me, it speaks to the quality of the podcast that I usually enjoy the episode even if I couldn’t care less about the film.
I'm picturing Simmons saying to himself "Hey! That's the cover of Time Fades Away!" and snickering.Yeah, I can’t think of a more Bill Simmons movie than Rocky IV. Maybe Teen Wolf.
I’m sort of surprised he likes Almost Famous as much as he does because there are so many rock and roll Easter eggs that must go completely over his head, and not being “in” on a movie or show usually seems to turn him off.
I had never heard that story before, makes total sense. It is a point in his favor that, like any good manager, he delegates something to a lieutenant who has more expertise in a area that the manager does not.Simmons went into Mallory's office and said "I have an idea for you...Binge watch all the GoT episodes and do a deep dive podcast on all the history, etc. with JC ahead of season 7." What exactly was his take on ‘Lincoln’?
I am guessing Bill did NOT like it because it was boring/long, but I admit to being out of the loop on this one.

Lincoln is good, but I'm fine with the pushback on it being a great movie. Luckily, Spielberg has Bridge of Spies to get him into the 2010s for that conversation. The question was about directors having great movies over consecutive decades. Panel said Spielberg and quoted Lincoln, Bill was like no that sucks. He was mocked for this. I don’t think he was pwned that hard because it does suck and he is correct.
The only thing not perfect about this is that I think it might be a bit more Fennessey than Ryan. But the Simmons couldn't be more Simmons.Chris Ryan: "So interesting tidbit in that scene right before Stillwater goes on stage, that's actually a..."

It's definitely funny how he pronounces it. RoBit!I'll forgive the Creed mix up but I am thoroughly disgusted by Simmons repeatedly saying, "RO-bit" instead of "robot".
A Hobbit/LoTR binge mode would be hard because the Tolkein canon is so much bigger than the Hobbit/LoTR itself, and the audience for a deep dive on, say, Galadriel's pre-Third Age biography is probably not very large.Haven’t listened to the first episode yet and I’m sure it’ll be great, but I was a little disappointed Binge Mode went with the MCU for this round. Was hoping for Hobbit/LoTR. While I like most of the movies, the stories don’t really provoke the kind of emotional connection that has really made BM shine in the past. Comic deep dives should be fun though.
That's a weird North Shore accent or something. I distinctly remember getting the last word wrong on a 5th grade spelling test because the teacher pronounced robot as "ro-bart". I even asked her to repeat it, and she said "ro-bart." So I wrote, you know, "Robart" and got it wrong. It's definitely funny how he pronounces it. RoBit!

She also had a perm and had a bunch of Kiss 108 stickers on her desk. She was the most 80s middle aged teacher ever.
That’s true. My thinking is it could have been more of the thematic style episodes with some character deep dives sprinkled in, but I can see how it would be a turn-off. I know for example the Star Wars EU has a bigger audience but I basically used those parts of the SW binge to get extra sleep on my commute.A Hobbit/LoTR binge mode would be hard because the Tolkein canon is so much bigger than the Hobbit/LoTR itself, and the audience for a deep dive on, say, Galadriel's pre-Third Age biography is probably not very large.
Smaller but similar one, in the Se&en one, he repeatedly refers to Pitt's "dog" and the others kept emphasizing "dogS' but he never notices.So,weird. In the Rocky 4 rewatchables, Simmons calls Rocky “creed” multiple times. He is never corrected. and it is an especially bad mistake because there is actually a Creed/Drago fight in this movie.
Plus, his voice hovers between boring and awful. So what exactly does Ryan Shazier bring to the table for his NFL podcasts? Doesn’t tell interesting stories, has no inside information, and never tells me anything I don’t already know. The Steelers have a lot of wide receivers, the Bucs have a better defense than you think, the Bears are who we thought they were, and so on and so on. I’m sympathetic to his comeback from a ghastly injury and nobody can deny he was a great player...but does that mean he gets a podcast?
Out of curiosity - in what context? Was there some meaning or symbolism to the dogs? I only remember him playing with them in their own room in the scene where Morgan Freeman comes over for dinner.Smaller but similar one, in the Se&en one, he repeatedly refers to Pitt's "dog" and the others kept emphasizing "dogS' but he never notices.
They were actually Pitt's dogs in real life; they have a 1-10 "Chewy's Rating" thing they do when dogs are in a movie; I think they were referencing the scene to show that Det. Mills had a light playful side we don't otherwise see in the movie, other than when he's a meathead.Out of curiosity - in what context? Was there some meaning or symbolism to the dogs? I tend to agree with you on this. Of the recent ex-athlete hires, I think Raja is a homerun and I like the little that I've heard from CC (pains me to say), but Shazier seems like a miss.So what exactly does Ryan Shazier bring to the table for his NFL podcasts? Raja is phenomenal. He will tell an anecdote and it's always apt to the topic. He's on point with everything.I tend to agree with you on this. Of the recent ex-athlete hires, I think Raja is a homerun and I like the little that I've heard from CC (pains me to say), but Shazier seems like a miss.
I assume Defector is not yet in a place to bring in someone like Concepcion, but he'd be a fit in terms of breadth of coverage and benevolent corporate structure. I might consider subscribing there if they added him.Wow, I did not expect that. I wonder where he is going; I can't think of another place that could really give him the kind of platform to do all of the different stuff he is good at like The Ringer. He's super talented, I bet he got offered a dream job somewhere big.
