Player maybe not, McDaniels ...
Right, and I remember Bill O'Brien stepping in when Brady was upset at one of his bad receivers. Just checked, it was Tiquon Underwood, AKA the guy who got cut the night before the Super Bowl in 2011 (seems like it worked out for him -- he's the WR coach under Schiano now at Rutgers).

Still love Tommy. Was painful to watch him forget the downs last night.

My wife and I were talking about Tommy the other day.
He needs to retire before he starts forgetting the names of his children.
He took a lot of hard hits last night.
How much more money and fame do you need?
Hopefully he's going to be a husband and a father for a lot longer than he has been football player.

I did see him and Gronk smiling on sidelines late in game.

But yeah, contrast that drive with 40 yards in offensive penalties with the fact that NE committed their first offensive penalty of the year last week.

Sports life is pretty good here in Tampa Bay and we get it all with no state income tax. If the summers weren't so freekin hot.

Screw AB.
No shit.

I'm actively rooting against TB12 at this point and am kind of glad he's gone. For as much as the on-field stuff was spectacular, Tom Brady off the field has lived in such a bubble for most of his life that he may as well be from another planet.

Tom Brady with:
Antonio Brown, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski, & Leonard Fournette.

Dude, he's going to be scoring 30+ points per game. I'm happy for TB. Besides 6-7 seasons, he's always had below average receivers.

I said it in the other thread, but as soon as Schefter said he was flying to Tampa, it seemed obvious it was a done deal. I don't think he's getting on a plane in 2020 unless the contract is being written up.

It makes sense for him to go to Tampa over Seattle. We'll see what he's got left, tho. He hasn't played much of late.

I'm still shocked so many people are rooting against Brady. Do you not want your franchise player to end up with NFL records for TDs, Passing Yards, etc?

I want TB to light fire to the rest of the NFL and rip the testicles off the Chiefs in the SB.* I hope he throws for 50 TDs this year.

*If the Pats by some miracle make it to the SB, on the other hand, I want them to crush TB.

TB pulling the strings for getting such a absolute despicable human being another chance sucks. AB should not be allowed in the league. Or, at the very least, no organization should want to have him represent their team.

Russell Wilson was also trying to twist AB into a good person. All about talent in this league, see Hill, Tyreke.

Yeah it will be interesting to see what he’s got. We didn’t get much of a look last year, but he seemed like he was fine in the small sample of practices and the one game vs MIA.

Not getting hit all season probably trumps him getting older by a year. My bet is he has plenty in the tank and a bit of a chip on his shoulder probably doesn’t hurt either.

Tampa is gonna be really good. They already are. Adding a healthy and motivated AB will probably take them up another level.

If you don't imagine Tom Terrific had a big say in this acquisition, I have a bridge in New York and a tunnel in Boston to sell you.

I've always been agnostic about Brady. Gifted athlete, smart and articulate, and yet the concussion water etc., along with the noncomital Trumpism always suggested an essentially benign but meaningful gap in his common sense or his capacity to see beyond his own needs.

I was too generous in my assessment. Tom can't see or experience the world beyond his own navel, and he quite obviously has little interest in doing so.

Is it wrong that I’m kind of hoping AB gets injured?

It seems reasonable to believe that AB has a mental illness so I'm kind of hoping that he's gotten some treatment and that he can recover and be successful.

Gotta admit as a TB navel gazer this one makes me think less of him.
When you look beyond the field with Brady it starts to get less than great... honestly the main reason I am glad he is gone, I don't have to try to spin his questionable things he does when not throwing a football

This. 1,000 times, this. My God, it's still Tom Fucking Brady. This isn't Johnny Damon or Wade Boggs going to the Yankees. This is Tom Brady, who went to Tampa Bay, and frankly, it was the right move for him and the Pats. I don't have the ability to root against Tom Brady unless the Flying Elvis is lined up across from him.

I'm just fucking more pissed at COVID now than I was before. My friends and I were supposed to be at the Bucs/Saints game in November, which is supposed to be the return of AB if the timeline stays intact. We obviously cancelled that trip.

Completely true. And some sweet justice for the handful of us that admitted we were uncomfortable with the off field Brady over the past several years. I'll always love what he did for the Patriots, but it got really difficult to root for a guy pedaling concussion water and other nonsense.

The last several hours of this thread are why people hate the Boston fan base. AB signing in Tampa = TB’s concussion water or some other thing he did that I can retroactively trash after I bury my Brady jersey in the hamper.

“The Super Bowls and deep playoff runs that I watched and rooted for every year for the past 20 years we’re ok, but it just never sat right with me.“

Except there are several of us here in the thread that do not need to retroactively do anything because we were already expressing this viewpoint when Brady still wore the colors.

Co-sign in blood. If Belichick had wanted Brady back, which he clearly didn’t - and that’s fine, that’s how he saw it - then he would’ve done more to keep him a Patriot for life. When he didn’t get the bit of security/contract he wanted, Brady left. I hope AB works out - for his own sake, and for TB12‘s ring #7 - and the Bucs blow the doors off everyone. The only person I feel sorry for at this point is Edelman for being left out.

edit: typos and clarity

Sure, +1 for you. Personally, I thought some of what he did in other ventures/off the field was cringey at best and I still do. Enhanced righteousness after he leaves the Pats is cringey too. He can have nice things, it’s ok.

@Deathofthebambino said it best. It’s TFB.

Agreed. Every time this thread gets bumped we have the same conversations about Brady. Frankly, a lot of the posts in this thread I find to be embarrassing and I can't help but think it does reflect the Boston fanbase.

I'm clearly in the Fuck Antonio Brown camp. He blew a golden opportunity with the home team last season via a massive unforced error (and that is a very kind description of what he did). So fuck him.

But Tom Brady? Give me a fucking break. He was a free agent; the Pats didn't want resign him at the terms he wanted. What was he supposed to do? He was not under any obligation to take some extreme discount or ask that his contract be un-voided. Sure, his TB12 stuff is garbage, but who the fuck cares? If functioning adults want to spend money on voodoo powder, so what? It's not my money, nor did it impact the team at all when he was here. Character wise, he is probably better than the median among professional athletes, which I'll tell you is not a very high standard. But outside this forum there has been like literally no bad news associated with him from anyone, and there are a lot of people that have interacted with him over the years. Take a look at how he interacted with his extended family after the Rams Super Bowl; he doesn't seem like the type that goes around peeing in everyone's Cheerios every morning.

Would I want to be friends with him? Probably not, but that is probably true of most athletes. So put me clearly in the Fuck the "Fuck Tom Brady" nonsense camp.

Yeah, I'm all in on Brady lighting up the NFL the rest of the season. AB is obviously talented and Brady seems to have a strong desire to want to play with him. It could end up being great. Or it could be a disaster. Neither one affects the Patriots.

But if it's a Chiefs/Bucs Super Bowl, how is any rational Patriots fan not going to cheer for TB? How amazing would it be for us if the Chiefs' mini dynasty gets upended after one year because of pesky ol' Tom Brady? Schadenfreude would be off the charts.

I’m still all-in on Brady and hope he retires with all of the records, and if the Pats can’t win the Super Bowl I hope he does. That said, guys like AB continuing to get third and fourth and fifth chances is something that sucks about the NFL in general. I hated it when the Pats signed him and to the extent I am rooting for TB I’d rather not have to root for AB along with him.

I know Tom has a singular focus on winning to the exclusion of everything else but this is the first time that I am aware of at least that he’s openly pushing for a truly bad guy to be on the roster just to win a few more football games. In retrospect that was probably true last year also.
