yes, he was. I think Darnold has more potential than Rosen.
What has he shown you since getting drafted that makes you think hes worth a top end prize package?

Has he been surrounded by elite talent? No. But that's a problem for plenty of QBs. His completion % is horrid, which is sad because his Y/A is worse. He makes poor reads and, while young, his growth has been stagnant.

If I needed a QB and he was OTB, I'd consider a 3rd. And I think that would be more than fair.

You may well be right. I see a QB who has, admittedly, had a real rough start to his career, some due to his own lack of development, some due to organization and coaching, And others to health (his own and his teammates.) It’s easy to say, It can’t ALL be fluke or someone else’s fault, and I’m not saying that it is. But I think Darnold has tools to be far better than Rosen, and far better than he’s shown, if put in the right situation. I guess we’ll see because it sure looks like the jets will be in position to get one of the top QBs in the 2021 draft.

Thursday broncos-jets game will be interesting but both teams look to be picking top3 i think the loser thurday is the favorites for the num 1 draft pick but i lean toward the jets here because i see denver likely 4-12 5-11

on a side note if ATL gets the num 1 plck i bet elway wouild call about matt ryan

Atlanta would have to outright tank. I agree about Elway, though

You also have to consider that Miami traded for Rosen after his rookie year, when he had three cheap years remaining. After this season, Darnold's got one year left on his rookie deal, plus an immediate decision on whether to pick up the fifth-year option. That's a much different value proposition.

This is the real problem and why they have to take Lawrence if they have the chance. Need to spend the money on other players.

Especially with the "poise" Gregg Williams showed last night, they have even less to gain by firing Gase. You want HIM in as your interim?

A Gase led team does seem to run the real risk of the ignominy of going 0-16. But hell, with their talent, they run the same risk with Williams, plus escaping the field at the end of each game to avoid a melee. Leave Gase in, try to work on Darnold and/or not get him killed, hope to steal a game but not too many, and reevaluate when the season is over..

But that doesn't solve the ownership issue. Good luck with THAT...

I've been spending a lot more time in the car lately than usual. That means more time on WFAN and ESPN Radio NY (98.7). The callers and the hosts are pretty much in lock-step agreement that Gase has got to go. The jury is out on Joe Judge and Sam Darnell, but it's unanimous on Gase. No one likes him, respects him, or sees any value in him.
I lmow this is a Jets thread but why do Giants fans think Joe Judge is awful? The guy has coached 3 games and it seems like Giants fans are ready to pull the plug and get the banners out advocating his firing. Gee whiz no wonder why the Giants can't get a good coach. No patience!!

Because I spaced and wrote Joe Judge instead of Joe Douglas (Jets GM).

Wow. Yes. They not only broke Sam Darnold. They broke Rich Eisen.
How could you not be broken. The Jets are a dumpster fire and, worse, they are a cheap shot, heading hunting bunch of lunatics.

They are not lovable losers. They are abject losers who can only resort to trying to hurt players on other teams. If you were a fan of this insanity, you would break too. Because it's broken from top to bottom at present. From the owner, to the coach, to the cheap shotting players who certainly should know better, even if Gregg(stupid second g) Williams absolutely does not.

First of all we are lovable. More importantly, if Cam gets the season cancelled how are draft slots going to be determined?

Well, the more the Jets lose more I love them. Also, there are a lot of Jets fans who are more like Eisen and @luckiestman than the neanderthals I used to encounter in Jersey.

Having said that, Williams & Gase are so toxic that they can't even be a part of that equation. Perhaps the bigger issue is that the Johnsons are incapable of hiring the right people to lead the team out of yet another 3-13 season.

These are some amazing Gase quotes
“If you were there day in and day out, you wouldn’t know what our record was. What I see at practice, the result, it just doesn’t match up”

“@KristianRDyer: Adam Gase on his 0-5 #Jets moving forward:

“We got to go back to work, we have to learn from this full. We have to figure out a way to play all 60 minutes.” #NYJ #TakeFlight”

Hey Adam, how about your team playing one minute?

I mean, point differential of -66 in 5 games. Not a single game closer than 9 points. And that was against a backup to the backup at QB.

Gase sucks but this is even a sucky year for him. Bowles teams looked way better than this.

The Jets and Le’Veon Bell are headed for a divorce.
The Daily News has learned that Gang Green is trying to trade the perennial Pro Bowl running back amid this nightmarish season. Sources told the News that Gang Green is indeed shopping Bell with the hope of trading him sooner rather than later. The trade deadline is at the end of the month.

"perennial pro bowl running back"? Except for 2018 & 2019.

Who is dumb enough to take Lev Bell's money? I don't know NFL trade rules. Can Jets pay his contract this year and ship him out for a future pick?

That was a Maccagnan thing. Douglas has been ok so far. He is a tank commander. He has had his own misses but nothing awful yet.
I always get a kick of Patriots fans who think about how "bad" things are in an off-season, when compared to the Jes, or Lions, Jags, Cardinals or Browns

I don't see a single team out there that makes sense given his contract. Cap hit is only $4M after this year so he's probably just getting cut at some point once the Jets fail to find a taker.

He is definitely getting cut. That is why I asked if it was possible for Jets to eat cash this year to ship him out.

I wonder if they'd cut him this year and take the extra cap hit as it is guaranteed anyways and give the bulk of the time to Perine.

As soon as they do that, Perine will get a season-ending injury, why? JETS

More seriously, the amount of soft tissue injuries the Jets have had over the past 2 years is annoying, don't know if it is luck or staff or how Gase runs things. I assume we are doing something wrong. This happened to the Yankees about a decade ago and they fired the trainers (I think).

I think the Jets just need him gone. Cap space is sunk cost but you just want the bad apples out of the locker room if you’re trying to establish a half decent culture.

The reality is that he’s just not even that good anymore.

Yeah, he just doesn't seem worth much at this point with this contract and seemingly diminished skills. In any event, CBS has a write up of potential landing spots: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/leveon-bell-trade-rumors-here-are-five-logical-landing-spots-for-jets-pro-bowl-running-back/

Without fully understanding the cap space implications, the Bears seem to make sense. They're a surprising 4-1 and Tarik Cohen's out for the year with a torn ACL.
Bears actually make some sense since I don't love Montgomery as a workhorse RB although they have about $8.5M cap space remaining. My guess is they could find a better, cheaper option.
