Hypothetical- If there was a Ryder Cup this year. Does Brendon Todd make the US team? Should he?
If he wins this, probably, otherwise no. He was amazing in November, but that was a long time ago. Best finish since the restart is T11, and otherwise 2 MC, T57, T22. Captains picks are generally either hot or famous.

I hate Bryson with about as much as I can for a golfer, at least on par with Reed, but am I mistaken that fire ants is actually a thing? Like it's written in the rule book as relief? I could be pulling that completely out of my ass, but I feel like it's a valid ruling, albeit one we never see called for.

Yes, it is a rule. I give him credit for knowing it and trying to use it to get his ball off a root. But there were like 2 ants, unsure if they were fire ants or not, within a 5-foot radius of his ball. It’s not like it landed on the top of a hornets nest.

Brooks has been having fun trolling Bryson the past few weeks.

While he made a halfhearted attempt at claiming those were fire ants, he admitted after the round that he was trying to claim relief based on “burrowing animal holes.”

There is also an implicit admission that his real issue was that he had a shitty lie.

I award him no points and may God have mercy on his soul.

He played well chasing. He got a one stroke lead and started spraying a missing putts, almost immediately. One thing he was not, was steady.
I see what you're saying. But he shot a 69 and remained at the top of the leaderboard. He obviously wasn't lights out, but his play left him a chance tomorrow. To me, that is steady enough. Every golfer has some bad holes.

Big picture, you're right. I guess I look at 32/37 and think it could have been so much better. I really like Rickie, I just find him frustrating to root for. Once he took the one stroke lead, I wanted him to take charge and stretch it out. Instead, he went the other way, almost immediately.

Agreed. He always finds a way to play himself out of the tournament. The fact that he's not 7 behind is a positive, but it could have been much better today, no doubt.

Am I the only person here who struggles to muster any enthusiasm for any of the WGC tournaments? Apart from the Match Play event, that is - which of course is the one not taking place in 2020, because nobody can have nice things this year. The exclusive field, no cuts, no history or tradition, never the most exciting or interesting courses, bags of guaranteed money and - most importantly - no real sense of consequence regarding the results all combine together to make them feel totally manufactured.

Also, nice payday for Bones during his time off from NBC.

Also, next week will be the first time Bones has caddied for world #1. That is always one of the wilder Mickelson stats.

Just because I've been accused of both being a curmudgeon and not liking any PGA Tour courses in the past few days, here's a baker's dozen of my favorite courses on the regular tour calendar (excluding majors, as well as other events where the venue can vary from year to year), evaluated both for their raw architectural merit and because they help facilitate exciting golf among the best players in the world:

Kapalua (Plantation)
Pebble Beach
Riviera
TPC Sawgrass
Muirfield Village
Austin CC
Torrey Pines (South)
Harbour Town
The Greenbrier
East Lake
Colonial CC
Detroit GC
TPC Scottsdale

(Quail Hollow is probably next up on the above list for me; Augusta National is of course the best course played by the best pros every year, but it belongs in a category of its own.)

They are ranked roughly in my order of preference, although any course on this list could probably rise up or fall down 3-4 places in any given year depending how I'm feeling. I'm biased toward classic, traditional courses; I mentioned in the PGA Championship thread how important good green complexes are to me, but I'd also add that any course with naturally rolling terrain is preferable to me to courses with flat fairways and very few uphill/downhill/sidehill lies. (Of course, the biggest problem with choosing courses both on the PGA Tour and at major championships is that the ball flies too damn far, rendering many of the greatest courses in the world obsolete for modern tournament play and forcing others to buy more land and build new bunkers and trees to keep up with technology...but there I go, being curmudgeonly again.)

I'm happy to hear nominations for courses not on the above list that are among your favorites on tour - either now or when normal PGA Tour service resumes next week.

I think these challenges on Wednesdays the PGA Tour is doing makes for pretty good content, but you have to have some players....did you see who is playing today....Kokrak, Grace, Schwartzel and the only possible highlight Pat Perez.....i know its not a crazy deep field but i think they whiffed on this one
