ESPN Radio is in the process of what could be a complete transformation that may impact every part of its schedule and eventually lead to Dan Le Batard no longer being on the network and the potential return of Mike Greenberg to radio, The Post has learned.

While these plans may play out over the next year-plus, the departure of afternoon host Will Cain from ESPN Radio appears imminent. He is soon expected to sign a contract with Fox News and Fox Nation, according to sources.

ESPN declined comment, while a Fox News spokeswoman did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

As previously reported, ESPN also is strongly considering changing up its morning program of “Golic & Wingo,” as Trey Wingo’s contract is up this year.

Fascinating that Trey Wingo sounds absolutely miserable in the morning show. I guess Mike Golic has captured enough of a following that ESPN will still try to make the morning show work with him as host.

His Twitter bio says that he’s “Not really a morning person …,”
I think this is the radio version of the Eric Bledsoe tweet.

There was talk a few weeks ago that they were considering moving Fowler and Herbstreit to NFL. With the college season being more at risk than the NFL, that does make sense.

I would definitely keep CF/KH in college football where their strengths are. They have 2 good analysts to choose from in Louis Riddick and Dan Orlovsky. The question is who is the PBP guy. Steve Levy called the other Week 1 MNF game last year so he's an option. Personally, I'd bring someone else in to do PBP like Joe Davis or Kevin Burkhardt from Fox but I don't think they'll do it.

That's probably why they havent announced a replacement yet. If no CFB, but yes NFL, then we get Herbie and Chris is my guess. Those are 2 big ifs, and Red is right, they're better in CFB.

Re-posted here, where it belongs...

I'm sure I'll miss a few, but here are some contenders from their current roster...

Current (?) roster of ESPN NFL Football Analysts: Mike Golic, Tim Hasselbeck, Matt Hasselbeck, Mark Schlereth, Marcellus Wiley, Damien Woody, Teddy Bruschi, Jeremy Fowler, Keyshawn Johnson, Randy Moss, Jeff Saturday, Steve Young

Current (?) roster of ESPN Football PxP: Bob Wischusen, Chris Berman, Rece Davis, Chris Fowler, Steve Levy, Sean McDonough, Ryan Ruocco, Matt Vasgersian, Trey Wingo

I'd bet a woman in the booth somewhere. Lisa Salter could be good. Maybe Josina Anderson? Rachel Nichols? Suzy Kolber?

I brought this up in the UFC thread last night, but I'm going to reiterate here because it's still grossing me out.

Last night, ESPN broadcast UFC 249 featuring Greg Hardy. I'm sure we all know Greg Hardy is an abusive piece of shit that was too vicious for even the NFL. Right after Hardy's fight, there was a promo for an upcoming fight featuring Walt Harris. Harris just suffered a personal tragedy - his stepdaughter was kidnapped and murdered. Three men have been charged.

The promotion for the Harris fight heavily referenced his stepdaughter, Aniah's, kidnapping and death. Now, that's fine - if Harris is motivated or focused by this personal tragedy and feels comfortable discussing it in preparation for the fight, that's his prerogative. And, I watched the NFL draft - I get ESPN loves it some tragedy porn.

But, how the fuck do you unironically put a promo featuring tragic violence against a young woman RIGHT AFTER a fight featuring a dude kicked out of the NFL for violence against women?

Ryan’s a friend — our 5 year-old daughters are best buds — and he’s a great writer. Loved this piece. Thanks for linking it here.
That's really cool
I hadn't noticed him before this article, but thank him for me. It did really touch me too, even though our backgrounds growing up were definitely different, I too bought lots of cards in the early 90's (not nearly as many, but I do still have them), that are worth holding on to, just for my own nostalgic reasons as they bring me back to my childhood and when I really started to love baseball

You must watch without volume. I cannot imagine not noticing him
Yeah, I like @InstaFace a lot, but that was not a great Tessitore take. Plus, play-by-play commentators shouldn't (IMHO) be like referees - when they're doing well, you *should* notice them, and they should absolutely add value to the broadcast you're watching.

Funny, referees also think that they SHOULD be noticed when doing well.

I had ESPN in the background the other day and PTI came on, and I will say after all these years and so much changing at ESPN and the sports media landscape in general, the show still holds up pretty well. It was Wilbon and Frank Isola, and they had a fast-paced show about a bunch of different subjects, and the guys gave polished, rational opinions without yelling or being sensational. It was fun and on par with any podcast out there.

PTI and ATH are pretty good. Especially now that ATH has limited Woody. Even Highly Questionable has improved since Papi left. He was funny in small amounts, but not everyday
I was going to say the same. Woody Paige and Bill Plaschke are still around, unfortunately, but the rest of the regulars on Around the Horn are generally solid. Mina Kimes, Sarah Spain, Clinton Yates, Pablo Torre, and Israel Gutierrez are on all the time. Plus we still get blessed with a Jackie Mac or Bob Ryan appearance every now and again.

From what I can find, Woj responded to a press release (email?) from Senator Hawley calling for the NBA to put pro-military and other jingoistic messages on uniforms. Not sure if that's instead of the planned BLM messages or instead of, but frankly, I think Woj's concise response was good. Maybe unprofessional, but someone needed to say it anyway.
