Wow. Never fully could've prepared myself for this. We were so spoiled. What an era he gave us.

Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
I have this 10+ year old dilapidated, torn to shreds Pats baseball cap that I wear every where. My wife has been begging me for years to toss it out, but I always replied that I'd toss it out as soon as Brady retires.

Thinking she may get her way today.....

The Pats are going to be too good to get Trevor Lawrence.

Ok, time for the rebuild. It's been a glorious 20-year ride, and we all knew this day was coming eventually (though I thought it would be when he retires, not leaves for freaking Tampa Bay or Miami). Time for a franchise reboot. Thankfully we've got the right guy at the helm for this.

Not even a mention of the fans. If he goes to Tampa I'm going to have a hard time looking at him the same. What a pathetic end to his Patriots career.

I still can’t fathom his last pass in a NE uniform was a pick six as he tried to lead one last drive from inside his own 5 yard line. Fitting the pass bounced off some hands before being intercepted.

I'm not a Patriots fan, but this feels like a really bad take.

The Pats are not going to be that good. Not first pick bad, but probably not playoffs

I'm 90454% sure there will be another statement mentioning fans.

EDIT: And there is.

It would be so much better for me as a fan for him to go to Tampa rather than Miami. If he goes to the Bucs, I'll cheer for him. If he goes to the Dolphins, I'm going to hope he's a disaster. I want his legacy to remain, but if he's on a division rival...I want him to be buried.

But with him, Miami is going to be better than the Pats.

It is what it is. New England was never going to approach 30 million which was total insanity. Good for Bill to stick to his guns.

Best run of team/coach/player in NFL history comes to an end. He gave me so much joy in my life. Just a great player and to me almost always presented himself admirably. And went through completely ridiculous crap with about as much dignity as possible.

I’ll root for him 100%.

Hopefully amRadio can get back through on the call-in show from his car to modify his hot take
Sorry that I have a job and don't slave over instagram. I bet you're a real social butterfly on there.

If he goes to Miami or Tampa, Brady is a silly goose. If that bothers some of you that I feel that way, snark away. I'm sure the rest of the sports world feels his legacy will be improved by Tampa Bay. Give me a break.

I agree with this take. It would have been NUTS to sign him for $30 million. Made much more sense for another team to offer that if they were flush with cash. The Pats still have quite a bit of talent, and let's be clear: even during this golden era, many more teams have won the Super Bowl without Tom Brady than have won with him. So it's doable. But they do need someone decent at the helm.

No one said any of that. It simply made sense that he would put out a second statement.

Bad for BB to let it get to this? I don’t get why you re-sign the other guys on the wrong side of 30 if you don’t have a QB, but BB was right in 2001 when he went with Brady so he gets the benefit of the doubt on this one too.

I can’t even. Devastated doesn’t even come close to describe. I’ve always said once Brady is gone I’m done with football. Looks like we’ll find out this fall how sincere I was about that. No way I can watch him play for another team. I want to go vomit.

Felger (I know) tweeted last night: quarterback #TomBrady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to a 2 year, 62 million dollar deal. Brady will have full control over offensive play calling, as well as personal.

Edit: NM - fake Felger

We're onto the rebuild.

I'm oddly not too upset by this. The weeks and months of stories and rumors did soften the blow I guess. Nevertheless, it just feels like finishing the best book I ever read. The only other sports-related thing I'll ever experience is when Messi decides to hang it up for Barca.

When these guys are on your team, you know you had the best and most clutch player on the field. If there was even a sliver of a chance they could win, they'd find it and rip it away from their opponents mercilessly. TB is an assassin on the football field. His career is a goddamn fairy tale and it was a privilege to root for him. GOAT.
