Palmieri is such an interesting possibility. One more year, manageable cap hit, right shot RW. He would fit very well on the second line at even strength. I do worry about how many goals he scores on the PP as he's likely not getting those going forward. He's not displacing Bergeron or Pasta as the right shots on PP1 or Krejci/Coyle on PP2, one would think. Kreider, on the other hand, fits awesome in Debrusk's spot on PP1, would have to play off wing on the second line and is a rental.

I like both players. I would hate to decide.

Kreider is the better player but I think I’d prefer Palmieri if only because he’s not a rental.
I agree with this and would be happy with either but at this point, we do need one of them. Caps got better with the Dillon addition on D and Bolts got better with the Coleman addition.

Assuming they are confident Kreider can play off-wing I'd rather take the better player this year. Bs have had incredible injury luck and will likely lose Krug in the off season. They will undoubtedly be a good team next season but are already great this season.

I agree. It would be a shame to have this core "only" get 1 cup, and this might be the best last chance; yoou never know.

1st, Backes, Heinen/Bjork, prospect (Steen-ish level?) if we follow the Rick Nash trade.

I wouldn’t mind trying to get Lias Andersson in a deal with NYR. He’s 21 years old, plays center and was the 7th overall pick in 2017. It hasn’t worked out for him in New York, he demanded a trade and left the team back in December. They let him join a Swedish team recently. Most prospect followers think he won’t be a top 6 guy but he could probably play in the NHL as a 3rd or 4th line center.

At that price tag I see no reason to make the deal. A guy like Kreider or Palmieri just don't seem like anywhere near enough of an upgrade over a guy like Heinen (or even Bjork) to be worth a 1st and a prospect and the increased cost. Just because other teams make overpays doesn't mean the Bruins have to follow suit.

I’m one of Heinen’s biggest defenders but Kreider is a huge upgrade. Worth a 1st rounder and prospect? I’m not sure

That is intriguing. Saad is a LW with a big cap hit but he's a pretty good 2 way guy and plays the right side about 20% of the time. He has zero PP production so far this year but has been a solid 2nd line winger at ES with more ES points than guys like Zucker, Debrusk and his teammate Alex Debrincat.

It's difficult to envision a scenario where they can afford him without trading Backes and/or losing Krug in the offseason so there are some additional consequences to acquiring someone with that kind of salary next year.

The Boston Bruins are exploring the market for a top-six scoring winger and one of the players they’re examining is New Jersey Devils forward Kyle Palmieri, a source close to the situation told TFP.

Palmieri, 29, has one-year remaining on his contract after this season and comes with a $4.65 million salary cap hit. He also owns an eight-team no-trade list as part of his contract.

The Bruins aren’t alone in their pursuit, however. Several teams are believed to be eyeing Palmieri, including the New York Islanders, Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, among others.

Bruins GM Don Sweeney has a number of irons in the fire, as he’s also shown serious interest in New York Rangers winger Chris Kreider, who is on an expiring contract and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

The price tag for Kreider is believed to be a first-round pick, a top prospect, another asset and a conditional draft pick should he re-sign with the acquiring team. It’s not known what Palmieri’s price tag is, however, but a first-round pick and a top prospect or young NHL-proven asset could be the starting point.

The Bruins own their first-round pick in this year’s draft and it appears Sweeney is willing to part with it.

Devils interim-GM is believed to have some interest in Bruins forwards Sean Kuraly and Danton Heinen.

Heinen, Zboril, 1st, and conditional 4th that could be a 3rd if he signs?

Listened to half of the Friedman podcast. B’s stuff;

- They were in on Coleman but reluctant to part with a 1st which is why they didn’t get him.

- Overall, hesitant on trading the 1, maybe more willing to trade young players “that haven’t gotten a lot of rope” in Boston. Marek interjected to ask about Urho and Friedman said “maybe, I don’t know” and then shot down on Studnicka saying the B’s have high hopes for him. I’m not sure how to interpret this exchange, but I’m thinking he means Heinen or Bjork. You could probably include Senyshyn, Zboril, Cehlarik, etc. in Providence but those players don’t have a ton of value.

- Target list was Kreider, Palmieri, “maybe Saad” and they’re watching Josh Anderson’s health closely. Friedman thinks they’ll do something. They’re patient but understand their window to win is now. May not have Krug back, next year. Thinks if they have to do something like a 1st/Heinen/prospects type package they’ll do it for a bigger name like Kreider or Palmieri but obviously not for Toffoli or Coleman.

I wonder if NJ would put a higher value on Beecher than most given the Hughes connection. I'd imagine they are friendly after playing together, can't hurt to have someone in the system close to Hughes if that is the case. Beecher is so far away that he would be a better fit for NJ than NYR as well. Not that I want to see the B's trade him but if you can get NJ to take Backes + Beecher plus a 2 or 3 for Palmieri vs. giving up a bigger package for Kreider that might make sense.

That’s not going to get you Palmieri. He’ll be a lot more expensive, he’s signed for another year.

Coleman got a 1st and a top prospect (top 50ish in the league) to that seems to be round a template for Palmieri. Palmieri scores a bit more but is also more expensive. 1st, Heinen/Bjork, then some kind of prospect platter is my guess at a Palmieri package. I think they could do it without including Studnicka/Beecher/Vaakanainen.

Also, on the Friedman podcast, when he got to San Jose he said Dallas, Boston and Toronto would be suitors for Thornton if Joe decided he wanted to go.

Edit: Also if you want to do the follow-the-exec and try to connect dots, JFJ has watched SJS a few times, although last night the Sharks were in New Jersey so could’ve been both.

I wish nothing but the best for David Backes but I will be happy when his cap hit is off the books, either fully or partially.

I don't know if it's an indication of the weakness of the Boston beat writers, how tight lipped the Bruins FO is, or some combination of both but the Bruins are definitely the most leak proof team in town. There were some rumors about Backes going to a western conf team, but I didn't see anything linking Kase to the Bruins. The Coyle trade last year came out of nowhere.

In fact, even after adding Ondrej Kase on Friday, sources have told 98.5 The Sports Hub that the Bruins remain interested in swinging a deal for the Devils' Kyle Palmieri before Monday's 3 p.m. trade deadline.

Devils like Bjork and Heinen. Bruins prefer not to trade Bjork. Devils like Oskar Steen. The lack of a 2020 1st is an due but has not been a dealbreaker for the Devils.

Get it done Donny. I'm fine moving Heinen, Steen + for Palmieri who has 1 year left of term at a reasonable cap hit. But no Bjork, Studnicka, Beecher or Vaak.

Heinen seems like an odd man out now that Kase fits in to the RW slot on the 2nd line. Even more if we trade for another top-6 piece.

43 and 10 seem relatively interchangeable to me. I think Bjork ends up being cheaper next year but I'm ok with either guy going in a trade. Lots of Bruins Twitter posting vague tweets right now. It's possible they all have some embargoed info. It's also possible they are all full of shit.

NYR seem ready to deal Kreider after they couldn't come to an agreement on a contract. Larry Brooks says they want a return such as one they got for Nash. That was a 1st/roster player(Spooner)/top prospect(Lindgren)(with Beleskey as a throw-in). So with no 1st, what would that package be from the B's? Heinen/Vaak/2020 3rd that could be a 2nd if Bruins make SCF or if he re-signs? Seems like a ton for a rental.

I'd be more into a Palmeiri deal if that's at all possible, but Kreider would certainly peak my interest.

Rangers are in a weird place. They're 4 points out of a playoff spot and have been playing very well lately (8-2-0 last 10) and have an overall goal differential better than the Islanders. I would certainly expect them to ask for a lot for Kreider in these circumstances, so yea, I'm definitely favoring a potential Palmieri deal more at this point.

Explain to me how Kovalchuk would have the choice of his destination? This sounds like an agent throwing some shade at the Bruins for not signing him in the first place after initially showing interest in him.

Similar trade offers from both teams, and the Habs asking him which team he would prefer?

They do this with vets.

He probably wanted to play with countrymen, Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, Samsonov.

I just came down to the habs not wanting to help out the Bruins, and the agent is using it as an excuse to needle the Bruins a little bit.

How is that needling the Bruins?

If not true, it wouldn’t be hard for Sweeney to announce “we had no conversations with MTL regarding any of their players” and then Eronko looks like an idiot.

But it's probably not useful for Sweeney to make an agent look like an idiot because of egos and potential future business. Ultimately it means nothing to the Bruins outside of posturing, so they can let it slide without much issue.

I know it’s sentimental and probably stupid, but I would love Jumbo Joe back for this run.

I imagine it wouldn’t take more than a 5th round pick at absolute most, and fuck if it wouldn’t be awesome to win one with him on the team.

I don’t think he fits. I don’t think it makes sense for the Bruins. But sometimes being a fan is more fun than being an armchair GM.

I’m with you, I want him back for the nostalgia. I’d guess they’d kick Nordstrom up stairs, Kuraly to the wing and Joe would be their 4C and PP guy.

Subscribe! Jumbo Joe was the only fun thing about the Broons for a couple of years there.

Joe's slow as hell nowadays, isn't he?

He can come back as long as they bring out the Pooh Bears to wear. Let's go full retro.
I had an autographed Jumbo Joe Pooh Bear jersey #6, wife made me get rid of it but I can't complain too much since she did get me a Bergeron signed jersey many years ago. She waited in line to get it personally autographed. She tried to get the Lucic jersey but it sold out before Bergeron, sometimes better to be lucky than good.
