This thread is for official media rumors and reports about who is available and what teams are playing. Fansided posts probably shouldn't make this thread but let's see.

Might be posturing but the both Lowe and the Dunc'd crew thought a D Lo to Minnesota deal was more likely after the season given the uncertainty around picks.

That is a huge deal. Covington is actually a great get for Houston. Denver gets another shooter in Napier (Green is out for the season) while Atlanta gets Capela as part of their young core. The Wolves get some decent pieces to keep or flip and maybe they can staple ATL's Nets pick to Wiggins for D Lo.

I doubt the Ws are that interested in Wiggins or more picks, but the Wolves just got more tradable assets to move to a third team in a potential three-way deal for DLo (probably not till this summer, but who knows...)

I feel like they have a team full of Covingtons

It’s funny that (some) Celtics fans get mad about smallball, while Houston is about to roll out a team where EVERY SINGLE PLAYER is smaller than 4/5 of the Celtics starters.

Wild.

Houston is about to roll out a team where EVERY SINGLE PLAYER is smaller than 4/5 of the Celtics starters.
We'll see how that works out for them. Even in the age of smallball, the last five champs have rolled out at least two players over 6'-8" among their top eight playoff rotation guys:

2019 Raptors: Ibaka 7-0, Gasol 6-11, Siakam 6-9
2018 Warriors: Durant 6-10, Looney 6-9
2017 Warriors: Durant 6-10, West 6-9
2016 Cavaliers: Thompson 6-9, James 6-9, Love 6-8
2015 Warriors: Bogut 7-0, Barnes 6-8

(NB: heights listed are per BB-Ref's new "correct," downwardly-adjusted numbers).

PG - Westbrook 6'3"
SG - Gordon 6'3"
PG - Harden 6'5"
C - Tucker 6'5"
SF - Covington 6'7"

That's bonkers.
I remember an interview with Pat Riley at some point where he was asked about hte progression from Showtime to the Knicks grinding defensive style and he was asked what would be next. His response, which I have always remembered, was roughly "I think we'll get to a place where teams play all five guys between 6-6 and 6-8"

Perhaps that's a findable quote, and of course I could be misremembering...but it sure was prescient if so.

Separately, and to SRN's post above, I thikn we'd be wise to remember bulk and height each matter. Grant Willians is a good example of someone who isn't tall, but is definitely a 'big' whereas (say) Klay Thompson is a similar height but definitely NOT a big. Certainly height is a factor, but looking at both will, I think, give us a better picture of how teams are being built. Durant is 7 foot, but he's slender....PJ Tucker is short but stout. They each can defend in the paint, just in different ways.

I love looking back at this games great visionaries like Riley, Auerbach, Pitino, etc to see how they were literally decades ahead of their counterparts in scheme and team building.

One of these things is not like the others (at least in NBA terms I'll give him props for figuring out One and Done in college before anyone else...)

Obviously Pitino failed with the Celtics. But he was prety amazing in his run with Providence, the Knicks, and then Kentucky too. He was using threes before most everyone else, and the press was a great equalizer for talent.

I still wonder whether he could have made it work with Celtics if he had a) had more patience (no 'trade rookie Billups to get better NOW' or potapenko deals) and b) gotten a little bit luckier on lottery.

Whatever else is true of Pitino, he's a hell of a basketball coach

I liked it a few years ago when Houston rolled out a lineup of Harden-Gordon-Ariza-Mbah a Moute-Tucker against GSW, a bunch of guys between 6'5-6'9" that could switch onto anyone and also shoot. But that was specifically against GS, who killed teams who played traditional bigs because they would always switch them onto Curry and have no place to hide them when Draymond played the 5.

The problem is that the Warriors are not standing in Houston's way. The seven other WC playoff teams (Lakers, Clippers, Nuggets, Jazz, Mavs, Thunder, Memphis, as well as Portland if you wanted to include them) all play basically with a traditional five or a traditionally sized five, and on some of those teams like Lakers, Nuggets, Jazz and Mavs, that center is one of their most important players. Small ball is helpful but I don't know if it is the solution like it could have been against GS.

Source: Rockets closing in on a deal for a center, currently talking to two Eastern Conference teams. In addition to a center, they are willing to take on additional salary in exchange for assets.
Even though Houston’s primary sets will be without a 5 (or really a 4 too) they have to acquire 1-2 bigs for playoff matchup purposes. I’m sure they will land at least one Biyombo-type.

He also figured out that launching threes was a better strategy than an endless barrage of mid-range jumpers. As a Boston fan I despise Pitino, but props where they’re due.

Green makes $15 mil through next season—probably makes it a little tougher than some other options. Would be a nice get though.

Not sure the signature prickly Morris personality is what this locker room needs. The chemistry seems fantastic as is.
Markieff is the better of the two twins (personality wise).

Have to see what the guaranteed money is, but 30M for the age 37 and 38 seasons of a guy who just sat out half the year, and hasn't played more than 27MPG in 6 years seems wild.
