We are seriously discussing the KF incident hours after he died?

She deserved the hate. I was never a fan of the guy but a father and his daughter died today. A wife is without a husband and kids without a father. #MeToo can take a MF day off and we can call him a rapist again tomorrow
Well, it's already happened

My wife and I watched it too and discussed the same thing. That everyone right now feels obligated to respond the same way for fear of being shamed. Evan Rachel Wood for example dared to tweet out a reminder of Bryant's raping of a 19-year old and she was met with a barrage of hate. She has since deleted the tweet.
Wait, hold on a second.

You're married?

Once you're a rapist, you're a rapist. You don't get a day off

And it has absolutely nothing to do with #metoo ... it has to do with fans and the media spending the day deciding the rape doesn't matter

Well, this will almost certainly go down as one of the worst posts in the history of this site. But before posterity steps in, you wanna maybe go ahead and elaborate a little on the bolded? Like, for instance, do you have a good reason for hating a woman who accused a powerful man of rape outside of the fact that she accused a powerful man of rape?

Wait...Now, I ain't the smartest man in the world, so I am assuming I am misunderstanding you. Please explain. If you can't, I hope this is a permaban situation. The fact that you (and I) now that her initials are KF is part of the reason Kobe is problematic.

This article in the Washington Post mentions his helicopter as a 4 seater

He began calling the four-seat Sikorsky S-76 the “Mamba Chopper,” which to him just sounds right.

Pure speculation now, but if it's the same helicopter, I wonder if there was a weight issue, having 8 passengers and that extra 15 minutes circling caused them to run low on fuel?

No they decided that the guy dying mattered more for a few hours.
Nine people died. The focus is on the famous one. When discussing the death of a famous person, their ENTIRE life should be part of the consideration ... not just the parts that make him look good.

When OJ dies ... are you saying no one should discuss the murders?

There are important conversations about sexual assault and race in America to be had concerning Kobe Bryant and what now is a legacy. I will wait until there is another, non reaction thread to discuss those.

I really only liked basketball when Kobe Bryant played. I’m one of those Laker fans who is really a Kobe fan first, but I don’t really bring that up around here. I’m emotional and incredibly sad, and as with all of my tremendous admiration for Kobe Bryant, part of me feels bad for that based on what he did in Eagle, CO in 2004.. I fucking loved him as a competitor and athlete and was genuinely inspired by the second act he seemed to be creating for his life. I was more impressed by his Oscar than by his titles and that video of him and Gianna taking basketball at a Lakers game made me cry this morning.

it’s all a WAG at this point, we don’t know shit yet.

tell your friend to fuck off for me. His speculation doesn’t help. I say that as a military helicopter pilot with over 4000 hours in tactical aircraft, every qual possible in Marine Corps helicopter aviation and having graduated the Naval Aviation Commander’s Safety course. He doesn’t know what happened in that aircraft yet because no one does and his cavalier language is insulting to a fellow pilot who might have done an outstanding job and still died for all we know. Some emergencies just aren’t survivable, some great pilots get themselves and their pax killed being stupid. Often the answer is in between. But only a jackass speculates with incomplete information at this point.

Helicopter pilots get cavalier with the weather, especially around terrain in a manner that would terrify most fixed wing pilots. I say that now flying fixed wing aircraft for a major airline. Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) is a common helicopter killer and it is a fairly linear risk across the range of pilot experience and quality of equipment.
I was hoping to hear your input and sorry for jumping the gun. But, yes, until we have the NTSB report, everything is just speculation.

Blame me - I just relayed what he relayed - he didn’t post it. I did bc I thought it was an interesting take. The guys a big Laker fan and believes this didn’t need to happen. Incidentally, he landed in the same fog right after the accident and said it was very intense.

Thank you for your service

I’m saying that Evan Rachel wood deserves hate on twitter today because she brought up the KF situation hours after he died. I have no idea why that statement would warrant a ban

“KF Situation”

“KF Incident”

I feel like there’s a specific term for when a man forces a woman to have sex against her will. Can we use it again after we mourn sufficiently?

Please don’t ban bsj until after the Hawkeye Cauci. He is on the ground providing valuable insight.

He's thread banned. ERW is a rape survivor. We have others that are members here. Stating or even implying that any of them deserve hate for speaking their mind about Kobe, twitter or otherwise is total bullshit and not acceptable, especially after related warnings have been given in the thread.

I have always despised Kobe. For being a rapist, for his arrogance, for being a general douchebag.

I will say though, his death has affected me. There is of course the normal component to a celebrity dying where we all think about are own lives, the “soundtrack” type of thing that we feel with celebrities we have seen and thought about in our lives so much for so long.

It has mostly affected me because of his daughter. Seeing the many pictures of him with Gianna — and the look she has in her eyes when she is looking at him, and the smile on her face with him. That cuts deep. When I think about a 13 year old girl who idolizes her Dad being lost, and 3 other girls being left behind it is devastating, particularly having two daughters myself.

I could care less about Kobe being gone, but his death has hit me pretty hard and I understand why people are reacting the way they are.

Also, this thread is a shitshow and SoSH should be better.
I too have a daughter. And she was sexually assaulted just last week. While I feel terribly for the Bryant family for losing a child, I can’t quite muster any feelings for her father at all.

Sorry for what your daughter went through.

To be clear, I don’t have any feelings for Kobe at all. Fuck him.

Please don't say that. I'm not happy Rev's gone. I really don't want you to hit the road.

I 100% disagree with BSGs post...but we discuss things here.

Some folks think this thread has been a shit show. I think it's been one of the best threads I've seen in ages. A lot's happened. A lot's been said. Disagreements, shit posting, multiple apologies and retractions. And...I hope we haven't pushed any non males away. This is maybe one of the few places where we can discuss the non sporting side of Kobe alongside his sporting achievements, legacy, what he meant as a sportsman. It's been messy - life is messy...but most of us here - we're doing okay - i think so anyway.

I think the mods and dopes have done a fine job in this thread - they got in early (time wise) on a fast moving spiralling thread.

Anyway, please hang around gadgie.

Terrible. And that’s the thing—for many survivors it’s always “just last week.” Which is why it has to be the same for those who rape.

EDIT: I hope for healing for your daughter, and your family, @Mooch.

I'm very sorry to hear that Mooch
This is something I worry about for my daughter too. I'm scared about her growing up. I'm scared about her being young

The aircraft was a Sikorsky S76B. It’s a multirole helicopter that can configured to carry up to 14 passengers and two pilots although a typical configuration for this type is six passengers + two pilots. I don’t know how this one was set up but I don’t think the number of passengers has anything to do with the crash.

Thanks all. It was quite the teaching moment to explain to my basketball obsessed 13 year old son why I wasn’t exactly weeping over Kobe’s death, in light of what happened to his sister. Didn’t really enjoy that teaching moment but had to counter all of the over-the-top praise he was watching all day.

I told Mrs. DDB earlier tonight that I thought it would take a day or two for the first writer to dip his or her toe in the water and discuss the rape, and then the gates would open a little. After reading that cesspool of comments following the ERW tweet I am less confident.

That is in OC. Someone already mentioned this much earlier in the thread, but I can attest that this morning it was also extremely foggy up in the valley where the accident happened.
I know it’s in OC ( I’m in OC) and the weather was cloudy/ foggy all day. A Google search says the closest airport to the crash site is Van Nuys Airport and they reported the weather was at IFR during the time of the accident. Camarillo Airport to the north reported MVFR so it’s safe to say the weather at the time of the accident was MVFR at best.
