Ref is breaking them up very early, but I’m surprised Ruiz isn’t doing more in the clinches.

I think he’s waiting for an opening to time AJ. Or for him to tire of bouncing around. But he’s going to have to start getting more aggressive soon.
He basically needs a KO right now, right, or at least a knock down or two? Joshua has presumably won all rounds so far.

If Ruiz has the stamina, he can take this. Joshua gets flustered still and tries to fight when he should be moving.

This ref is terrible. Not just the clinches, but Ruiz has had tape sticking off his glove all round.

Agreed. But it’s not impossible for Ruiz to win on the cards either. If he takes the last 3, and judges gave him one or two of the closer early rounds.
Joshua is reminding me of when I’d have like a 3 point lead in wrestling, and I would try and look busy enough not to get a stalling penalty, but still not giving my opponent a chance to beat me.

Yeah, but this is on Ruiz. He hasn’t taken many chances. And only 21 jabs seems like a bad strategy.

Seemed to me that Ruiz was satisfied owning the title for 6 months. But I honestly have no idea whether that’s the actual truth or not.

Always hard to tell what’s in another man’s mind, but showing up overweight and not really pressing the fight or taking risks indicates you may well be right.

Big fight next week with Wilder-Fury 2. I’m excited for another big stakes, old school heavyweight showdown.

Oh yeah. I'm looking forward to that. Gonna get the PPV and... fall asleep before the fight. I'll watch it in the morning, though, should be a good one. The last one was nuts.

Rewatching the 1st fight, this was actually a very good tactical fight.

Id recommend a rewatch if you you got 40 min to burn. It's on the pbc YouTube channel

Fury had a great game plan. Wilder was way too focused on landing the one big punch. Almost worked out for him. I’d hope he stays busier this time around and utilizes his jab. Fury doesn’t have a ton of power for his size and doesn’t often turn his punches over because he’s more interested in flurrying and moving, so Wilder should be able to take some chances without fearing counters.

Fury, of course, is claiming he wont be moving and instead will look for a knockout Saturday. That might have something to do with him, apparently, being a lot heavier than the first fight

As I’m sure you know, anything a fighter says about their intended strategy is just a Vizzini mind fuck to the other guy. If Fury stands in front of Wilder, he’ll be gone in 3 rounds.

Wilder needs to go to the body more in this fight. It’s never been anything he’s invested in, but he’s got to slow Fury down and Tyson has great head movement and reflexes.

I haven’t rewatched the original in awhile, but I’d bet he threw fewer than 50 punches to the body the whole first fight and I don’t remember him trying much but 1-2’s with an occasional hook pretty much throughout.

Hey guys. Stupid me. I accidentally submitted a wager that I didn't want when I was half waking up. I don't really follow boxing much so wanted your opinion.

Will Wilder / Fury touch gloves - Yes

Normally, I'd just hedge out of it, but they had been cordial up until recently so I just sat on it. However, then they had a scuffle in yesterdays press conference. Now, to me, it seemed like that was a bit of a show. But what say you? Is not touching gloves as rare as it is in MMA, where fighters usually do it, even if they've had a few words?

Is that only in the start of the first round? Cuz fighters often touch gloves to start the 12th or after a foul.

I think they’ll touch. It’s more common on boxing. Partly tradition. Partly, I imagine, that range is less important in boxing than MMA.

Before the fight. You know, right after the ref goes over the rules one last time and tells them to protect themselves at all times.

Yeah I think they will.

Fury is a master mindfuck. He knows sticking his gloves out first will make him look alpha and relaxed. Wilder won’t want to seem too edgy or aggressive or put out, so he’ll touch ‘em up to show Fury he’s not, even though doing so will prove he is.

Thanks. They pulled the line, so I can't hedge out now even if I wanted to. Guess we'll see!

And he has a bad cut wound above his eye, which Wilder knows all about, and it won't take much to burst it back open. As part of Fury's training camp, they been working on adding more power to Fury's punches, but the reality is, if Fury is to win a points decision is the more likely scenario. Not sure if Fury thinks he can knock Wilder out, but i do think he feels that if he's standing at the end of the 12th round, he wins the fight - even though he's said it's impossible to win a points decision in Vegas v Wilder. (That's standard away fighter talk.)

I know Wilder’s been down once, but I think he has a pretty decent chin. Ortiz is a big puncher - likely bigger than Fury even if Tyson is sitting down on his punches - and Wilder was able to slog through a bunch of clean Ortiz punches late in their fight.

The corollary to putting more power in your punches is you lose speed and accuracy. Tyson hit Wilder clean a bunch, but a lot of that was with quick, slapping punches.

Yes, yes, yes. And there were spots that he unloaded on Wilder, clean, and while it rocked him, he couldn't put him down.

For me, anyone who can survive that blitz ortiz put on deontay in their first fight has a hell of a chin. That plus feeling what Fury had already and i think Wilder may take some big risks.

Maybe he’s serious about trading. But 15 pounds on a 6’9 frame ain’t that much. Wilder put on an equal amount of weight, but still looks ripped.

They're doing it again...for Hooker vs. Felder, a Fight Night card??? Sad.

Fury vs Wilder 2 main event walkout to be delayed as ESPN put plan in motion
The pair are not expected to commence their ring walk until around 5am GMT, which is 9pm in Nevada.
But that start time could be delayed as the pay-per-view event is being shown on ESPN+ in the States and they do not want it to clash with the UFC.
Fury and Wilder will not make their way into the ring until Felder and Hooker step out of the Octagon Down Under.

I don’t understand thinking they’ll be delayed. The UFC card tonight starts at 7pm eastern. There is five fights on the card and all but the main event are 3 round.
I cannot see the card going past 10:30-11pm eastern which is when I hope the fight starts as I plan on trying to watch both.

  • Charles Martin vs Gerald Washington - heavyweight
  • Emanuel Navarrete vs Jeo Santisima - super bantamweight
  • Sebastian Fundora vs Daniel Lewis - junior middleweight
  • Amir Imam vs Javier Molina - junior welterweight
  • Subriel Matías vs Petros Ananyan - junior welterweight
We've just had the decision on the Fundora vs Lewis fight. So i think were two fights to go.

I stand by my Dana White comments.

Charles Martin might be the worst fighter to ever hold a share of the HW belt. Washington looks rangy and twitchy. If he picks his spots from the outside, he should be able to handle Martin easily.

I'm a little miffed. When I checked online the big fight was supposed to be at 6:00 on the west coast but there are still a couple of fights to go. My 12-year old son wanted to see the fight so I found a sports bar that allowed people under 21 to come in, so here we are. I have to get the little fellow home alive so I can't even drink to burn off the time.

As far as Fury's predictions, fighters can't change their styles. Him saying he's going for a knockout would have been like Frazier saying he was going to stick and move.
