99% chance this is something about CBD Oil or he's joining the WWE.

I have a suspicion that this time he actually is announcing the surprise news we've all been waiting for: that he's somehow still marginally relevant and it would be nice if everyone didn't forget he exists.

The rational side of my brain cant imagine this has anything to do with returning to the Pats. He wouldn't need to tease it, and most people will think/hope that's what he's going announce so it gets way more eyeballs. If he was it would also most likely be leaked before then so why wait

Then there is that little voice in my head that since its Tuesday at 9 am and that's when practice probably starts its going to be a video of him walking onto the practice field screaming "LETS GOOOOOOO!!!!!"

For what it’s worth... Gronk was in LA today filming a tv show with Bobby Lee and Keegan- Michael Key. He was a passenger in on military jet as they did a dogfighting drill or something.
He’s not coming back. But he did sign some stuff for my kids, so I’m good either way.

I love Gronk he’s my favorite non-TB12 of the second dynasty but give it up man. I love that he walked away on his own terms and wish him the best in whatever he does next but cut the shit.

He is going to be on a show that looks dreadful. Key is the Executive Producer, IIRC, and Ian Karmel and Serena Williams are also involved

He’s relevant because of football. He knows this. He is continuing to tease “big” announcements because the only way anyone will care is if there is a possibility that he’s returning to the field.

If he wants to have a career in entertainment he should try to figure out a different angle. The ‘will he come back’ one is just about out of gas.

1) I don't think he's coming back
2) He is obviously much less in shape than he typically is for football

BUT, just as a thought exercise, can Gronk roll out of bed and still be better than the Patriots' current options at TE? Maybe not every single down, but he obviously knows Brady well and Brady knows him. You'd think it wouldn't be that difficult for him to come in and catch a few passes. But, I have no idea how much that bulk is required for Gronk to be Gronk. Or to put it another way, how much is that bulk necessary for Gronk to be better than Izzo?

Here is the obligatory comment where I state that we underestimate the bulk and conditioning of even marginal NFL players at our peril.

One of Gronk's major contributions over the years is blocking. To be a better blocker than even Izzo would require Gronk to bulk up significantly. Then of course he would need to get into the necessary cardio shape in order to run routes and beat his man in coverage. The degree of difficulty is high at this stage.

I mean, players have come back from retirement previously. In 2008, the Pats brought back Roosevelt Colvin and Junior Seau after Adalius Thomas got hurt. Seau even returned in 2009, but those comebacks came at a tragic cost in Seau's case. For that and many other reasons, I agree wholeheartedly with your first point.

Counterpoint, Jason Witten took a year off to mumble about things in a booth, and I'd take him in a minute over what the Pats have rolled out at TE.

"Rob Gronkowski is in Robert Kraft's box, and Rob Gronkowski is coming back! "Oh my goodness gracious! Of all the dramatic things, of all the dramatic things I've ever seen, Rob Gronkowski standing right in Robert Kraft's box, announcing he is back. Rob Gronkowski is a New England Patriot. Now we don't need to discuss who takes that spot as Tight End"

WWE has a new news-based show on FS1 that airs on Wednesdays. Just taking a guess that Gronk's announcement would be his involvement with that show in some capacity.

FakeVegas odds on Gronk's announcement

-140 : "Dreadful" show mentioned upthread
+120 : WWE Related (likely broadcast vs performance related)
+180 : CBD related
+800 : Obscure business like his protein shaker biz with his brother
+1200 : Returning to Patriots as TE
+1300 : Heading to space via Space X to perform the first zero gravity GronkSmash Spike

I agree with others who have said that his goodwill/love currency with his fans is strong but finite... and trading on it with troll moves to push marketing interests will burn that currency quickly.

This intrigues me. If he is not tethered would he not travel in the opposite direction of the spike, and be unable to stop himself. If he spikes it at the earth could he not be propelled spacewards never to return. But if on a platform would not the ball continue unimpeded at the same initial velocity until striking an object. Meaning he could unwittingly destroy a small civilization light years from here starting the final galactic war.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. First things first. Can you properly inflate a football in the vacuum of space?

When is the WWEs next event in Saudi Arabia? Could have something to do with that. That money being passed around has to be unreal. He could probably make more in one night in Saudi Arabia than he would if he came back ROS.

It's on Tuesdays

It was 2 weeks ago, next one will probably be in 6 months or so

So I totally thought it was on Tuesdays, and a quick Google search told me it was on Wednesdays, which I was willing to believe since I don't watch the show. But yes, you are correct it is on Tuesdays which makes the timing of his announcement even more likely.

I agree w/ parts (most) of what you are saying - but it takes more than being a giant slab of beef to be a good blocker. Timing, angles, leverage, etc. all play a significant factor in being a skilled blocker. We underestimate technique as a core part of the NFL skill set at our peril. Rolling out of bed, those skills gained by experience are still there for a Gronk or Witten type playing after a long layoff.

He's still not coming back.
