1) LSu
2) OSU
3) Clemson

The remaining undefeated (don't believe any will finish unbeaten, but any p5 unbeaten gets a title shot in my book unless there are 5)
4) Minnesota
5) Baylor

Ranking the major 1 loss teams by the quality of that one loss
6) Bama
7) PSU
8) Oregon
9) Utah
10) Oklahoma
11) Georgia

Had to fix mistake in undefeateds. Honestly I like UGA better than this, but that South Carolina loss is absolutely ugly.

I would guess most ranking thoughts fall into one of three categories, or a combo of them.
1. Resume - best win or wins
2. Worst game/loss - who has the ugly loss.
3 Eye test - how are they winning the games they are winning.

I'd like to think mine is a combo of the above, but I'm not even sure with my Clemson ties and observation bias (as I haven't seen all these teams play) that I can do this objectively. But I think the team above beats the team one notch below on a neutral field right now. Not in January, but today.

1. LSU
2. Clemson
3. OSU
4. Alabama
5. Georgia
6. Oregon
7. Oklahoma
8. Minnesota
9. Penn State
10. Florida

In regards to the committee, its going to be interesting to see how they rank Bama and Georgia this week. Georgia has better wins, which they referenced last week in their explanation of the South Carolina loss and Georgia's ranking. Now Bama has the best loss, but no good wins, so will they even need good wins to offset a good loss? I bet the committee ranks Bama ahead of Georgia.

Minnesota not getting much respect but I can't argue with the rest of that.
Assuming the Gophers and OSU both win out, Minnesota will have a chance to enter the playoff field by winning the Big 10 Championship game. The scenario gets complicated if OSU loses to Penn State, and Minnesota beats Penn State in the Big 10 final.

The scenario represented by your second sentence is quite simple IMO. If Penn State beats OSU and Minnesota wins out, then the winner of the Big 10 Championship makes the playoff. It would either be a 13-0 Minnesota team, or a 12-1 Penn State having just avenged their only loss.

I think he means its complicated for OSU, would the Big10 get 2?

OSU v a one loss Bama or Big 12 winner assuming that is a one loss team, etc.? There are a bunch of team that control their fate if they just win out. Bama isn't one of them however.

Teams that control their own fate:

LSU
Ohio State
Penn State (plays OSU)
Clemson

Teams in the scrum for #4 (ranked order):

Georgia (easiest path as they could play LSU)
Oregon
Oklahoma
Utah (likely to play Oregon)
Alabama (needs help)

Without a QB, I have a hard time believing they get the traditional Alabama undeserved push.
Depends on how they do in the Iron Bowl. If they seem like traditional Alabama then, they'll be fine. (with help). Obviously they're out if they lose.

1 loss SEC team that only loses to LSU is a strong statement even with Paul Fineman as your QB.

I love this time of year in college football because you can start to picture the scenarios that would create maximum chaos. There are two fun ones to think about this year. The first one is simply Penn State beating Ohio State and then going on to win the Big 10. I don't see a path for two Big 10 teams making it and the committee would be pulling their hair out trying to find a reason to put OSU in over Penn State. That's fun.

The other really fun chaos scenario died this weekend when Auburn loss to Georgia. But it would have been great had Auburn won that game and the Iron Bowl, followed by Georgia beating LSU in the SEC championship. Would have been a mess with a one loss SEC team and Georgia, Auburn, Florida and Bama all sitting there with 2 losses.
