game 2 was hte series. they needed to steal that game.

nothing to be ashamed of though. also shows the Astros next year without Cole will be that much more vulnerable.

Well that's probably it. Nice run by the Rays all year and they put one of the best teams all time (on paper) up against the wall.

I mostly feel sad for jonabbey that he will have to buy his own ALCS tix now
You should feel really good about your team. Lots of cost controlled young talent. A smart front office and a manager who seems to fit with the move towards managers who execute plans laid out by the analytics staff.

Yeah, this was actually a year early for them to be good. They’ve got more talent on the way next year and a deep farm.

Maddon actually did the same thing with executing the front office’s plan, just nobody realized it and he got all the credit for himself.

50 fucking cameras at the game and we can't get a close enough clean replay of that call?

It was confirmed all over the place after the game, including by Glasnow himself, that he was tipping his pitches. He’s had issues with that in the past, but this was the most egregious example I’ve ever seen of hitters knowing exactly what was coming and sitting on it. It reminded me of the Bucs Super Bowl victory when the defense knew all the Raiders plays and audibles and John Lynch was running around shouting out the play calls and then the D was jumping the routes. Sucks to be on the other side of it!

The photographic evidence, just to close the loop. Rays got out-Ray’d.
Actually, it's funny because the organization known for its advanced analytics got beaten by basic old school scouting that would have picked up on that 100+ years ago.

Yeah, don’t need a supercomputer or nerds from MIT to figure that out.

To finish this thread on an upbeat, we’re on to 2020 note....here’s the other, “throwaway” piece the Rays got for Archer, Shane Baz, hitting 100 in AZ fall league all star game.
