It a shame that all those fiercely loyal empty seats that followed the Rays all season now have their view of the field blocked by so many bandwagon fans.

So, I haven't been following baseball much in the last week. I figured I'd start watching the CS.

Why is Verlander out there? Is it defensible? Was Hinch trying to set his rotation assuming that they would win? Seems like hubris to me.

They don't have an adequate 4th starter for a 5 game series. 7 game series, I think they go to Miley up 2-1.

But this game is house money. I don't know maybe it was the right decision. For the record when I turned the game on and started posting that thought it was 1-0 so it's not hindsight on my part.

Maybe it's the right move.

d'Arnaud's weak chopper finding a hole was a backbreaker.

if the Rays had come back in game 2, this would be a full-on holy shit moment.

im kind of rooting for the Astros just because i think they have the best shot to take out the yankees. but man a rays/nats world series would be awesome

By missing them I mean in both Games 1 and 2.
Game 2 is Sunday, Verlander could still pitch that on full rest, so if HOU loses tonight and wins game 5, they still have Greinke, Verlander and Cole lined up in that order and all would still start twice if it goes seven.

To me it totally makes sense, but like with Corbin coming in in relief, you don't really know if guys can do things they haven't done before (Corbin out of the pen, Verlander on 3 days rest) until they actually try it. They still have Cole on full rest for game 5, this seemed like their best option coming in IMO.

True, but given his age and lack of experience bouncing back from pitching on short rest, you wonder how many pitches they let him go tonight. 75?

With the Yankees, maybe they'll do what the Rockies did in 2007.

Went into the postseason hotter than everyone, swept the NLDS/CS and then got swept in the WS.

Of course, I just...mean...the Yankees swept the ALDS...and will lose the ALCS.

This is a terrific post.

Those last couple of pitches actually looked like Verlander. It looked kind of like he found it there like it clicked all of the sudden.

I would yank him right now. Clearly doesn’t have it. Save the arm.
I'm not sure this is crystal clear (no sarcasm), as Verlander generally amps up his velocity as the game goes on. He is probably not going more than another inning or two, though.

57 pitches for Verlander through 2, but he did get through the top of the lineup again. I say he goes 4 innings.

My boss is an Astros fan. He's sending me 2-3 texts a minute saying the series is over and the Rays will win it

Cole on full rest at home is a pretty nice card to be able to play, HOU hasn't lost in months when he starts.

Being able to pitch a big game on 3 days rest is really hard, I don't think Roy Halladay ever did it either.
