True, Harry is eligible first, but they can defer the decision and just not bring him back to practice until there is more clarity for the other guys, correct?
They could, but if they're sitting on a healthy Harry for three more weeks after he's already missed six weeks of practice and eight games, I think they've made their decision.

I don't. The Patriots will likely want all info in front of them.

I think it's been covered already, but the Pats wouldn't have put Develin on IR if he was truly week-to-week.

Does it alter your opinion any if they elect to keep him on IR all season?
I’m more disappointed if that happens, obviously, but my guess is that if they brought back, say, Wynn and Develin, that would almost certainly be due to the team feeling good about and secure in the WR depth chart. (Gordon seeming on a good path as much as an addict can, Edelman healthy, Meyers progressing.) I don’t think it would be a matter of their having given up on him, shrugging and saying, “That’s a wasted pick, I guess just put jimmy back in and we’ll see if we can make it up in the run game.”

Many factors will go into the decision, obviously, and much can change in the meantime, but, gun to my head, I’d think a potential playmaking WR who runs a lot of the same routes as THE GUY WE COULD POTENTIALLY LOSE TO ADDICTION AT ANY MINUTE is a smart move for a super bowl contender.

I don't think "useless" is the right word. Less useful than other options.
Exactly. I think that there's some validity to a conclusion of "useless" if Edelman or Gordon is unavailable when Harry is, yet they keep him on IR. All we really know now is that he's unnecessary.

Reiss writes in his Sunday notes column that he'd be "surprised" if Develin plays again this year:

More on Develin's neck injury: Patriots fullback James Develin dealt with a stinger in the preseason and the residual effects of that could have played a factor in the neck injury that landed him on injured reserve Monday. Develin told those close to him that a review of his blocking technique in Week 2 against Miami showed he was leading more with his shoulder in that game, which was a result of compensating from having experienced a stinger. As for what is ahead for Develin, a neck injury at a position known for its high-impact collisions is a scary combination, and I'd be surprised if Develin returns to action this season off the IR list.

Wonder is Doug Baldwin would consider coming out of retirement for a look with the Pats. He'd fit in really well in this offense right now.

Is he healthy? He had 3 surgeries this past off-season.
No idea. Don't remember any major injuries, so I would imagine he'd probably recover soon, if he hasn't already, but I don't know. Just seems like he could be a good fit, if healthy.

Sounds like he has moved on:

Baldwin suffered a series of injuries in 2018 and characterized the season as “hell.” When it ended, he had surgeries on his groin, shoulder and knee, forcing his decision to step away. When I asked him if it would have been physically possible to play this season, he gave a long pause.
“I mean, yeah, I could go out there and run around, but not in a capacity that would be beneficial to anybody,” he said finally. “I wouldn’t have been anything for the Seahawks, and it only would have been a detriment to my health even further.

“I’m not healthy now to play. I don’t know when I will be healthy to play again. So I can’t tell you that. I’m still doing rehab, I’m still recovering. I probably have one more surgery to do, if not two more, actually.

Harry can be designated to come off IR/be eligible to practice after Week 6, ie, after the Giants game.

Obviously a very different player than Baldwin, but the guy has ability. His YAC ability, whether on screens or slants, in particular jumps out.

But that PF today was unacceptable for Harry. Im glad CBS pointed it out.

Pats need Wynn and then maybe NKh or develin. Get the line shored up

Wynn is definitely key. This isn’t an explosive passing team without AB so the running game absolutely needs to get better. I think Harry will be needed at some point.

So how does the Watson suspension work in terms of when the Pats have to activate him / cut someone?
I assume if they want him to practice Wednesday then he has to be on roster.

The Pats can apply for a roster exemption for this week to allow Watson to ramp up in practice. But he would obviously have to be on the active roster by the end of the week in order to play.

Well, there is the rookie WR thing, but on the other hand WR is a major area of team need. On balance, it seems like he should be activated at the earliest opportunity.

I feel like the rookie WR thing is a bit overstated. Obviously, it’s a tough transition but we’re not asking Harry to be a WR1 or WR2. We just need a WR3 or WR4 at this point. This year there are a ton of rookie WRs making an impact:

Marquise Brown
Deebo Samuel
AJ Brown
Mecole Hardman
JJ Arcega-Whiteside
DK Metcalf
Diontae Johnson
Terry McLaurin (he’s been awesome)
Hunter Renfrow

I expect Harry to be able to produce somewhere in the range of those guys if given the opportunity.

Missing training camp and 2 months of practices is a whole other ball of wax for a rookie receiver, I'd imagine.

AB was very experienced and previously an elite talent, but he had years of playing in a very different system. He was here a week and got plenty of snaps come Sunday. Harry should be able to handle a WR4 role on this team once activated.

Yes, it would obviously have to be scaled up. It’s not like he needs to learn Edelman’s role or anything. He’s had lots of time to digest the playbook.

Yeah. I mean, we could use a Malcolm Mitchell.
Can’t believe I didn’t even think of him. He is exactly what we need. He had like 100 yards through week 8 in 2016 and finished the year with 4 games with 40+ yards, including 98 yard and 82 yard games.

We all know what he did in the SB as a rookie.

Devin's extension coming in 3, 2,...
The word is he hasn't decided if he's playing next season. Doesn't mean we couldn't work something out to open up some room, but if he retires, then we have a hit.
