Simon was an unsung very good player on Sunday. Chung was also awesome. As was J Mac aside from his one lapse where he stopped running on the bomb to Washington.
Agree on Simon. He’s been noticeably good in a lot of the games since we got him. Nice under the radar acquisition.

Question. On the Edelman pass to White, it looked like he looked downfield first before checking down to White. Anyone have any idea whether Jules had an option to throw downfield or did he just look downfield to disguise what the actual play was?
I thought Jules might've been a little worried he could throw it deep enough, but looking at the play, I think he saw the double coverage and decided on the safer play. Here's a quick screen grab of Jules surveying the field after getting the pass from Tom:

25909

It's reasonable to think he was concerned about the safety there. If he waits another second, however, things open up a bit more:
25910

Even though Gordon is a couple yards behind both defenders, Jules has already turned his attention back to White and the 5 or 6 blockers he'd have against 3 or 4 defenders. I think Gordon was option #1, but Jules saw a couple of DB's close to him and took the safer option.

There's like 4 Steelers in total no-man's land with pretty much nothing to do on that play. They're not covering anyone, they have seemingly no assignment (I say "seemingly" because (1) I don't really know what their assignments were, and (2) the Pats have two guys WIDE open, plus White has an enormous convoy).

That's an amazing sequence. There isn't a single Steeler who has diagnosed the White option and started moving in that direction by the second frame (maaaaayyyyybe the guy near the right hash has hit the brakes and stopped moving in the wrong direction at least). This despite the fact that four Patriots OL are just standing over there in front of White. What a poorly coached team.

Well it helps when you have 1 guy blocking 2. (Dorsett) Another guy (Gordan) beating double coverage and a 3rd guy dominating his Block (Izzo)

If I could have 3 guys neutralizing 5, I will take it every play.

Actually seeing that it should have been a TD. ( 4-5 steelers to far to the right, Gordon Blocks one of his guys, Patriot on the Hash Blocks someone, 4 OL block someone. White shouldnt even have to beat anyone.) Only guy who should have had a chance is one of the S/CB on Gordon if an OL doesnt get there or White cant make a move on him. And I will bet one of them made the tackle.

PS: What a great feel for the route by Gordon. He sees the Safety go flat and instantly cuts it up.

Yeah, I think one of the OL whiffed in the play and didn’t really block anyone. May have been Wynn.

These plays always end up looking a little awkward because White has to stay behind his blockers while running; and since they are lineman he can't just turn on the jets. So he runs in about half-speed which allows the out of position defenders to get back into the play.

White has always been impressive at that, though. He's always seemed to have a good idea of when to stay behind his blockers and when the right moment is to turn on the Jets and go it alone.

Agreed, and he picked up like, 35 yards on the play. It was anything but a failure.

Not a game ball, but I love what I saw from Winovich. The guy was everywhere even if it doesn’t show up in the box score.
He was phenomenal. He doesn't stop. He was chirping at Big Ben, Pittsburgh's O-line and their sideline after nearly every play. That's how he drew the 15 yarder at the end of the game (and should have had another one).

There was a moment on the play where Roethlisberger through the pick to DMC and you can see Winovich probably telling Ben something like "Damn, you guys suck today." And you know Ben was probably like: "Fuuuck You!"

I was at the game. He was talking to Ben after almost every play. You could tell Ben and the O-line was getting frustrated by it. It appeared they were double teaming him quite a bit.

At this point, I'm partially convinced that Karras' snaps were on purpose. BB saw something on tape and said "Pittsburgh likes to jam the receivers and by snapping it slower, they get a quarter second more time to come off the line before Tom is ready to throw..." or "Our offensive line is faster off the ball than the Steelers, and a slower snap helps them set up quicker..." I have no idea, but to hear Tom Brady say the snaps were fine, when everyone in the stadium (and I'm sure everyone at home) was looking at the snaps and going "WTF?" leads me to believe that perhaps, the Pats found yet another tiny edge they figured out a way to exploit.

Either that, or he's covering for Karras, which is entirely possible, but I have a hard time believing they cut what's his name after 2 days when he had started like 74 consecutive games and nobody thought it would be important to work on Karras' snaps before last night. I wouldn't be surprised next week to see the snaps come back at normal speed and everyone just goes, "Yeah, we worked on changing it up.."

Or maybe they are REALLY trying to protect Tom, and don't even want him to potentially jam a finger.
Next year slow snaps will be banned.
