It’s really been one of the best rounds I have ever watched. 2 putts inside 7’ from a 59. His iron play has been ridiculous.
He slams one in the water and it's like, "Ok, this could get tight, JT is cracking." And then JT sticks his 3rd shot to 2 feet and an easy, not so easy par. Just unbelievable.

That JT round will be one of the ones I hold up when people say watching golf is boring. If those last 5 holes don’t amp you up, something needs to be checked.

JT is kinda spinning his wheels today and Cantlay is within 2 with 8 holes to play.

In the US Am, Augenstein is 2-up through 23. Commercial free broadcast on Fox.

It is not going to be a JT coronation today. It's getting a lil' tight at the top with Matsuyaya and Cantlay making a run.

Cantlay drives the green with an incredible tee shot, considering there is water all along the right side. Impressive.

Tough way for it to end as Augenstein 4-putts from 20 feet on 17 to lose 2&1. Ogletree was nails down the stretch.

Euro Tour is implementing a new pace of play policy.

They say they’re going to hand out penalty strokes. To get one, you need to be put on the clock and then get 2 additional bad times. They’re saying 50 seconds for the player playing first, 40 for second/third to play. Players will be given one 40 second extension. Additionally they are increasing fine for offenders, shortening the fields (kinda surprised by this), and spacing out tee times on weekends. They are also trying out some new technology at the BMW PGA next month that will give the players and time referee’s real time feedback on their pace.

I’ve always thought a chess clock style system would be best. Maybe two clocks per player, tee to green and then putting. This would allow players to take longer on shots where they have to think, just like it works in competitive chess. The issue is that it would be complicated to automatically track when to start and stop a players clock, but it’s probably not difficult to adapt shotlink to do this task. An added bonus would be we would instantly have stats on who the slowest players were. Which.. is probably why the players would never agree to this system.

What does it mean if the players “don’t agree” to rules set by the tour? They’re welcome not to play. How do they get paid, then?

That's a great question - but, in the past, the PGA has been slow to change rules out of fear that the players would revolt. So maybe "agree" is not the right word and instead I should have said, the players will complain a whole bunch and force the PGA to do something less effective.

Maybe. But keep in mind, the whole slow play concern fell on deaf ears until some of the most prominent players started complaining. So, if Brooks and Tiger support it, I don’t think it much matters what Bryson or JB’s thoughts are.

We’re off at the Tour Championship with the new format. Everyone is trying to chase down JT, who begins at -10 and a 2 shot lead over #2 Patrick Cantlay.

I’m not particularly sold on the format, but I do find myself curious as to how this will play out over 4 days.

they should have tightened up the free strokes. So the top guy gets like 7, 2 to 5 get 6, 6 to 10 get 5, 10 to 15 get 4, 16 to 20 get 3, 21 to 23 get 2, 23 to 26 get 1. 27 to 30 start 7 shots behind.

These strokes are ridiculous. Too many.

Today disagrees with you, at least so far. Xander has made up 6 strokes and is tied with JT.

I hate this new format but the PGA Tour will never change it after today. Currently you have Brooks, Rory, JT, and Shauffele all within a shot of each other with 5 holes left in the third round.

If the 4 of them are still close later today it will be must watch TV.

Just had a great scene on 15 after Rory almost aced the par 3. Fist bumps all around from the four players who are all laughing.

What’s the deal with Koepka’s shoe here? It’s like he is walking around with a security tag on or something.

They are a design by Virgil Abloh - the hottest guy in shoes for Nike and clothing. He is a “Kanye” guy and ended up making a name so big for himself that he landed the creative director position at Louis Vuitton. His signature with Nike is that “security tag” among other elements, some of his Jordan “collabs” sell for over $5000 on resale market. (I am a sneaker collector and own a dozen of his shoes)

Double or a triple here for JT. He hasn’t played great this week.

Koepka and Rory have been the 2 best players on Tour this season so at the very least it feels right that they are battling it out for the championship. Xander hasn’t been as good all year as those 2.

Noticed during the morning play that some players were wearing the same colors they were wearing yesterday. Are they superstitious enough to keep their outfit for the morning continuation then go in and change into their Sunday outfit?

Koepka roasting the “40 year old golf nerd” sportswriters for not understanding his shoes is hilarious.

For what it’s worth I’m one of those nerds who has no idea what off-whites are/were, but it cracks me up regardless.

I’m exactly 40 and I’m also white - I admit to thinking that tag looks dumb. The shoes look awesome though.

Xander has two wins this season(albeit early in the season wins) and a 2nd place in the Masters and a 3rd place in the US Open. 11 top 20 finishes, too. Definitely an excellent season and he is right there with Rory and Brooks.

One of the nice things about getting old is that you develop an indifference to fashion and become more concerned with function. My first thoughts are, “is it comfortable, can I walk in it for six hours and not have my feet hurt and will it help my game?” I don’t see that tag doing any of that.

Yeah, agreed. My comment wasn’t intended to knock Xander, I just think Rory and Brooks have been the 2 best and most consistent players this year. Xander would be in that 2nd tier.

I’m getting there. I simplified my golf attire this year down to stuff I know I could wear both on and off the course for hours at a time. As an example, Public Rec makes a pair of shorts that are basically yoga shorts. They look like slacks, but they aren’t. And you could sleep in the things if you wanted to. The only place I still try to stay fashionable is with my hats.

Rose just took 4 shots to get the ball up a slope out of the rough. Posted an 8 on 8 for what should have been a 5 at worst. Woof.

For some unexplainable reason I can’t stand Paul Casey. Hoping for an implosion there.
If it makes you feel better, he's the only one really getting hurt by the new format. Or at least he's been the one hurt by it the most... so far anyway.

The guys at the top of the card are the guys playing the best golf on the weekend outside of JT and he hasn't played that bad.
