"this trade is voidable retroactively if at any point in the future the player demonstrates stupidity far exceeding what was knowable about him prior to the trade"

Those fine-print clauses will get you every time, man.
All depends on the court’s interpretation of the word “far.”

"knowable" could be a problem here.

If we read way to much into a hard to understand quote from Irsay...

Irsay’s aborted attempt to name the injury—“It’s a bone—I’m not good at these things, but it’s called mo-something else—but it’s a small little bone”—opened the door for more specific forms of speculation Tuesday afternoon.
...a doctor speculated it could be "myositis ossificans" based on the word 'bone' and letters 'mo'. If that is somehow right, does he play again?

This is the only potential trade I'm keeping an eye out for. He's got 2 years left on the deal but currently sitting out:

Tent Williams for a 3rd & 2021 conditional pick. The pick(s) can be recouped after he leaves for free agency. However, Gruden is blowing up a smokestack:

Field Yates tweeted this morning that Wynn's presence on the field plus having Skipper getting reps means to him that the Patriots aren't one of the teams trying to trade for Trent Williams. I'm not so sure about that. Hell, there's even a possibility they could even trade someone like Joe Thuney in a Williams deal because Wynn has the capabilities of playing guard.

Thuney can also pitch in as an emergency LT. Much younger and cheaper than Williams. He seems to have more value to the Pats than as part of a package for (a very expensive) Williams, especially if Wynn is getting healthier.

As a curiosity, I went to footballdb.com to see how often BB trades for an OL. The last three times were:
  • 2018: acquired LT Trent Brown from SF
  • 2016: acquired G Jonathan Cooper as a throw-in/reclamation project in the Chandler Jones trade (which eventually netted aforementioned Thuney)
  • 2015: acquired OG Ryan Groy from Chicago
  • None from 2012-2014
BB simply does not acquire an OL very often via trade. When that happens, it's no one anywhere near Williams' caliber nor price tag.

As much as I'd be thrilled for Williams to join NE, it's one of those "when-do-we-trade-for-Calvin-Johnson" ideas that really does not ever happen.

He's much younger and cheaper this year. But will Thuney be around long-term? It's not out of the ordinary for BB to trade someone in the last year of their rookie deal if he feels it's best for the team. I'd rather pay a franchise-level LT like Williams even at age 31 than an interior OL even of the caliber of Thuney. Wynn can replace Thuney on the cheap for the next 3 years.

I think more likely is they let Thuney walk and plug in Froholdt in next year at LG

Which would most likely net Pats a 4th or 5th round compensation pick.

Froholdt has been getting positive reviews but as a late starter, it could take another year from him to take over Thuney's spot. It seems more likely that Thuney getting a 3-year extension to me.

Maybe, but they already have Andrews and Mason on second contracts, having all three would be a lot of money tied to the interior OL. I guess it depends what Thuney wants. If he goes the Solder route then good luck to him.

If Thuney hits FA, it’s very likely the Patriots get the highest compensatory pick possible, so a 3rd, not a 4th or 5th.

Antonio Brown skipped practice today because of helmet issue.
He thought he had found a loophole in the new helmet rule:
ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio reportedSaturday that the NFL recently reversed course on its promise to allow Brown to wear a Schutt AiR Advantage helmet as long as he could find one less than 10 years old. In doing so, per Florio, the league decided to require testing of Brown's new helmet, which was made in 2014 and had been certified for use by the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE). And after recently examining it, the NFL informed Brown that his helmet failed the test.

Florio added that "we haven't heard the last of Brown on this issue" -- hours before the receiver used graphic language to slam the NFL over Twitter.

Brown's original style of helmet, PFT noted, was not among 11 different models that became prohibited this season, but Brown was not permitted to wear his traditional model because it was more than 10 years old.

So if Mayfield is willing to lay the blame for a team's losing record on the QB, I wonder how much credit he'll spread around if the Browns have a winning record.

There is so much entertainment potential on that Browns team. Definitely seems like Baker has already kind of anointed himself as the next big thing.
