What an abysmal field at the John Deere. It should be an alternate event to the Scottish Open.

It won’t happen for a variety of reasons, mostly sponsor money, but I like NLU’s idea of making either the Irish or Scottish Open a WGC.
Hovland was a favorite coming into the tourney. This is like his 4th tournament ever. So, yes, it's not a good field. It's a very poor field.

This Sky Sports coverage from the range at Portrush is awesome- and I’m just watching it at an airport bar. Molinari talking putting theory and Scott on his swing...very interesting.

Lots of low rounds today. Should be interesting tomorrow with Rory having a 1 stroke lead over Koepka.

The tee boxes being mini FedEx trucks are corny, but clever

Another psycho scorecard for Spieth
He leads the field in total birdies this week and he's a non factor because he just blows up on a ton of holes.

edit - he had two double and two triple bogeys over the course of the tourney. 6 regular bogeys, too. That's extremely poor for a pro.

Ho him Sunday for Brooks, show up 30 minutes before the tee time and shoot a 65. $3.745 million Sunday for Brooks, believe this’ll lock up that Wyndham Rewards thing they’re doing. He’s now at 2 regular PGA tour wins, 4 majors, 1 WGC.

Curious to where the give a shit meter will be for him in the playoffs.

Edit: Add an extra $1 mil for the Aon Challenge thing, whatever the hell that was about.

Collin Morikawa just won the Barracuda. He’s part of the 2019 NCAA class that turned pro a few months ago, like Matt Wolff who won the 3M and Viktor Hovland.

That event counted as a regular PGA event, right? So Morikawa has the two year exemption? Hell of a class of players coming up now.

Sweet 77 for Spieth today to get himself into the MDF crew. Hilarious (and very deserved) that golden boy will be sitting out the Presidents Cup this year.

Spieth hasn’t won since 2017, only has 8 top 10s over the past two seasons, and is ranked 38th in the world right now. It’s weird he basically dropped a tier or two in his mid-20s but until he shows otherwise I think it’s safe to say he’s just another Top 50 kind of pro going forward. He’ll have some good weeks and some blow ups, they all do, he just gets more attention because he was at the top so young a few years ago.

Since the Masters, Tiger has only played in one tourney that wasn't a major and only four total. That's basically one a month. He must really be hurting, that's an anemic schedule.

It feels like he’s missed a lot, but during the post-Masters stretch he’s only skipped 2 events that he would normally play. First was the Wells Fargo which was 3 weeks after the Masters. We’ll chalk that up to Masters hangover. The 2nd was the WGC in Memphis two weeks ago. I think that’s a schedule squeeze problem. It is back-to-back with The Open, and two weeks before the playoffs. If he played there he’s looking at 5 starts in 6 weeks if he qualified through to the TC, though I suppose he could’ve played there and then skipped one of the first two weeks of the playoffs. He did the grueling stretch to end last year and basically said never again.

I mean, sure, but I'm just looking at it from the air. Since mid April, Tiger has played in a total of 4 tournaments. It's almost mid August. There is a schedule that is grueling, there is a moderate schedule, and then there is a schedule when a guy is playing once a month. Tiger is literally playing once a month. The whys, whos, and whatfors are fine. Still, he's playing once a month.

I say this out of selfishness, in that I wish I saw him more often. Further, he's played in 4 tourneys and he's missed 2 cuts. If not for the Masters win, this yer would have been catastrophic for Tiger. But, he did win the Masters, so that makes his year a huge success.

Yup, totally agree he’s trying to manage through whatever is left of his body. The guy was a training/practice nut in his early days and has always talked about the need to play enough competitive rounds regularly to stay sharp. If he’s not playing more often it’s because he knows he’ll break down.

DFL now, +4 through 8 and in the bunker off the tee on 18.

Feels like quite a step back from the 16 or so months leading up to the Masters.

I am sure I will jinx it but Troy Merritt could be on 59 watch. -8 with 4 to go including 2 par 5's. He missed one putt from around 5' and 2 others from 10-15'

Tiger WD’s.

Edit: “oblique strain” is the official reason
One would have to think his season is over. I don't see how he can pull out of this tournament and then show up next week. And he won't qualify for the finals.

No way he plays through that. On to the Masters!
What an incredibly disappointing year, considering the Tour Championship win last year and, of course, the Masters victory in April. Since then, it's been weeks off and missed cuts. And now the dreaded Tiger WD. It's hard to have confidence his body can hold up for any period of time going forward.

But, man, that Masters win was something else.
