I just hope it keeps him from needing a knee replacement for quite a while...I'm skeptical it will allow him to be a big league player again.

Why is every surgery a success? Why is there never a press release saying that someone underwent unsuccessful surgery?

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Sigh. That's too bad. He had a great career for the Sox. I hope he'll stick with the org as a coach/manager figure.

Welcome to the Michael Chavis era.

Chavis will never be the defender as Pedroia was (even when Pedroia was clearly losing ground coverage he was still elite), but for a rookie season, he's been pretty great. Some red flags but Pedroia himself had some (remember those first 100+ AB's or so...). I don't have time to look up avg. OPS for 2B this season, but a .330/.460 with 20+ HR's is pretty solid if he can be consistent and improve his D.

Edit- actually I'd be happy to see him split time 1B/2B with Hernandez mostly at 2B and giving X and Devers the occasional break

You're probably right on Chavis, but it feels a little early to make that call. If he ends up never being a full-time middle IF, then you'll be proven right by default. But I think the jury is still out on that one.
