“Kyle’s done a great job for us,” Belichick said. “He’s smart, he’s very instinctive, he does a good job with communication.

“He can call signals. We have multiple signal-callers on our defense, and that’s a good thing that helps with communication and adjustments. He’s made a lot of big plays for us since we got him. I’m glad we have him. He’s done a great job.”

I didn't know the D had multiple signal-callers, is that a recent thing?

Every year they have multiple players that have the green dot in their helmet in case of injury. I'm sure Kyle is one of them along with Hightower. I believe Bentley was also leading the huddle before his injury.

I think the rules limit the defense to 2 or 3 in total; only one dot on the field at a time.

Lazar says that Wynn is still not cleared for contact and N'Keal Harry went down with a hamstring injury today.

But there are multiple people calling out signals on each side, right? For example, the center calls out blocking assignments on O. I think that usually there is a S calling out schemes as well.
The green-dot signal callers, as noted above, are those guys, one on the field at a time, who are hearing radio communication from the sideline/coach's box.

Right. Anyone can call signals. Only one guy can hear the coach. (I'm not even sure the offensive green dot *has* to be the QB, even though it makes the most sense for obvious reasons).

I write this every year in this thread, but continue to be flummoxed how these guys make it 7-8 years through HS and NCAA football and then pop a hammy a few days into their first camp.
It was mentioned upthread that it does not appear to be that serious. I'm sure most players have done similar tweaks during HS and NCAA practice; just that it doesn't get reported as closely.

If he got back on the field, and he did, I can't imagine they're really worried.

These are the following players that aren't expected to play tomorrow night because they did not participate in today's walk-through.
Tom Brady
N'Keal Harry
David Andrews
Marcus Cannon
Joe Thuney
Shaq Mason
Sony Michel
Rex Burkhead
James White
James Develin
Michael Bennett
Lawrence Guy
Kyle Van Noy
Dont'a Hightower
Devin McCourty
Patrick Chung
Jon Jones
Jason McCorty
Stephon Gilmore

Doug Kyed says to expect Berrios to return punts and Gunner Olszweski to return kicks. Also says N'Keal Harry was in uniform for practice today but did not participate in the walk through coming off a tweaked hamstring yesterday.

That's 19 guys, almost all will be the presumptive starters, plus a couple key rotation guys (like Burkhead and White).

No Isaiah Wynn listed. I wonder if he's ready to play, I would guess not.

Hoyer get the first 2-3 series and Stidham get the rest?
Per Howe at practice yesterday they had a halftime break. Hoyer played up to that break and Stidham played after. Maybe half each?

Wonder if BB does that thing like he throws Stidham in there for one series really early to see how he reacts cold, then goes back to Hoyer for remainder of half.

Nate Ebner is back today in full pads while Lance Kendricks is in a red non-contact jersey.

Pats have traded for TE Eric Saubert from Atlanta for a conditional 7th round pick. He had 5 catches last year from Atlanta. 3rd year TE from Drake.

Various beat writers have not seen either N'Keal Harry or Matt LaCosse yet at practice. With the trade for another TE, I'm betting LaCosse is going to IR.

Don’t Hamstring injuries tend to linger? I wish he could just sit till fully healthy.
Are we sure it was an aggravated hamstring? I can't link to a podcast but I've heard it was a lower leg injury and not re-aggravating his hamstring.

Wynn's progress is encouraging.

When he limped off I thought it was an ankle injury. Great to read positive reports regarding Wynn.

Loving how the WR corps is looking so far. This is without Edelman, Thomas, and Gordon, obviously.

Opening the season on the roster (first guess):
Edelman
Dorsett
Harry (as long as he's not really hurt badly)
Meyers
Berrios
Harris

That means no Inman, who is a legit NFL wide receiver. It also means when Thomas and/or Gordon return, someone's gotta go. No idea how they're going to handle all these guys because there's just a lot of quality there.

I wonder if he's in a better position to make the roster over Wise.
I don't think Wise is a lock, but they're built pretty different. At the Combine, Wise was 6'5" 274 with 35 5/8" arms. Calhoun (6'4" 251, 34 1/4" arms) is built more like Rivers (6'4" 248, 32 3/4" arms). I'd think it that if there's a direct competition, it's between Calhoun and Rivers. Wise I think comes down to whether they are changing the front and how they like his fit in that front. Wise is really built more like Bennett and might back up and rotate with Bennett.

Oh man I hate seeing Harry's name on that list

IIRC, when he was last seen, he made a catch, went down, got back up and started running (why?), got chopped down hard at the back of his legs, and limped off. Could well be something other than a hammy.

Hope he gets back to practice soon, the reps help, though a bit of time away from contact might be a good thing as well.

It just feels like Dawson is gone.

In Bedard's post-practice notes column, a few things stood out to me. One is that Shilique Calhoun is being treated like a starter given who he has been grouped with in practice and in game recently. Another is that Duke Dawson is splitting time at safety and corner and the last one is that Duron Harmon is getting less and less first team reps as the practices go by and that Terrence Brooks is getting more and more.

Wynn coming back is huge. Dan Skipper needs a lot of technical work and might never amount to more than a swing tackle.

I also like the Michel and White RB pairing now that Michel is developing more as a receiver. I think all the pieces on offense are there minus tight end until Watson gets back and even then he’s not going to set the world on fire. It is more apparent each day how they will deal with the lack of dynamic tight ends.

Dawson got killed again and looked bad.
