With 3 homers today, post hype Josh Bell is one off his career high already.

The poor Angels, Tommy La Stella just fouled a ball off into his leg and had to be carried off the field.

In his last two games, Adam Frazier of the Pirates is 9 for 10 with 5 doubles.

He went 5 for 6 with 4 doubles on Monday. Then yesterday he followed that up by going 4 for 4 with a measly one double.

Tommy La Stella fouled a ball off his leg last night and has a fractured tibia, out around 8-10 weeks, the Angels say.

With a double and another HR tonight, Josh Bell now holds the NL record for first half extra base hits (59).

Albert Pujols had the previous record. Barry Bonds had 57 XBH at the All Star break the year he set the home run record.

California. Duh.
Another day, another walkoff win for the Dodgers. Bellinger with a 442 foot bomb.

5 straight home games with a walkoff win, and 31-5 in their last 36 at Dodger Stadium.

The Reds work around a Christian Yelich double to lead off the 9th and hold on for a 1-0 victory. With Cincinnati's third straight win over Milwaukee, the entire NL Central is now within 3½ games of each other.

Amazing given that Milwaukee (-7) and Pittsburgh (-47!) have a negative run differentia.

So Ohtani hit #13 tonight, off Verlander no less. One of those where you think it'd be a single, but no, it's deposited near the batters eye in dead center.

Verlander had this smirk on his face as to say WTF.

Nats are wearing Expos throwbacks today similar to Carolina dressing as the Whalers.

Scherzer with a stolen base while he continues his insane pitching hot streak.

This was brutal: Lucroy Crushed

Catcher seems to have gone the way of football cornerback with how difficult the rules make it to play the position. They can't block the plate yet still have to worry about runners diving well out of the baseline to deliver a concussion. If this happened to Vazquez we'd rightfully be wanting heads to roll.

Catchers seem more protected than ever with the new rules. that's the first this year I can recall going out of the lane for a collision. Marisnick lost his mind for a second there.

I thought it was smart for NY to trade Cervelli after 2014 because he had already had a few concussions then, I'm surprised and impressed he lasted at C as long as he did.

Also worth nothing NY traded him for Justin Wilson who gave them a good year or two before they moved him to DET for Chad Green and Luis Cessa. Cessa has been bad although a healthy emergency arm at times, but Green has been a fantastic reliever for most of the past three seasons and is still under NY control through 2022.

The mucky muck
Yesterday, Fernando Tatis, Jr. became the youngest San Diego Padre with a multi-homer game, breaking the record previously held by...Cesar Crespo?!?!

That was definitely a cheap and dirty play. And maybe he didn't try to specifically whale Lucroy in the head, that was the main point of contact. That was a brutal hit and could possibly warrant a suspension. Marisnick is a pretty big dude, too.

100% dirty. Even if he didn't veer specifically to make contact with Lucroy (which he clearly did), hasn't the Pete-Rose-style shoulder block into the catcher maneuver been banned anyway? Aren't players supposed to be sliding into home same as any other base? He absolutely deserves a suspension. A big one.

Big and fast and going full speed. It was a brutal play. It’s not like Lucroy changes levels. He was in his crouch before Marsinick left his feet. I hope he gets a long suspension.

Marisnick only suspended for two games, should have been two weeks IMO.

And he appealed it, so he'll probably only get 1 game, which he's a 4th OF, so who cares? Actually, he should get a month to reflect his relative playing time. And force the Astros to keep him on the 25 man to boot.

Let's just take a moment to admire the long-term uselessness of Chris Davis. Over his last 1,000 at-bats he's put up a line of .185/.267/.347. He has hit 44 home runs over that time but struck out in 42% of his at-bats. During which the Orioles have paid him $53.5M for his contributions.

The real crime is that they will also pay him $21 million next season. And the season after that. And the season after that. Additionally he has some deferred compensation. The Orioles will be cutting Chris Davis a check for $1.4 million in 2037.

I saw him on TV this past week... think he was at the Cleveland Convention Center with other Tribe alumni participating in the All-Star festivities, but maybe it was one of the pre-recorded specials the team network recently broadcast instead... when you get arrested as many times as he has though, any day you're not behind bars is probably just another day of the week. Anyway, I didn't recognize him until his name was shown on the screen. 35 years of coke isn't exactly the fountain of youth.

Dylan Bundy really helping his trade value by giving up 7 runs to the Rays in the 1st.

Seems like a playoff atmosphere in Cleveland tonight. Offensive powerhouse Roberto Perez gave the Indians a 3-1 lead with a 2-out, 2-run single. The Twins immediately put runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out, but Clevinger left them there with a groundout and two strikeouts. Byron Buxton struck out on three pitches, all of them sliders well off the plate.

Tyler would’ve been 28 today. It took 28 Seattle batters to record the no hitter.

Skaggs’ birthday happens on July the 13th. The Angel offense produced 13 runs tonight.
