If he’s a low key guy who doesn’t want much attention, why not get shade under brighter stars? He’s already proven himself as a clear alpha. It’s not quite Durant or LeBron and Bosh in Miami.
There is no better shade in LA than playing for the Clippers. The Lakers get more press in last place than the Clipper would get in first.

It would be epic if Kawhi already knows he’s choosing the Clippers and is dragging this on and on for the sole purpose of limiting the FA options for the Lakers. I feel there is a real chance this is occurring too.

Whether he’s doing it on purpose or he’s taking time to make an honest decision, I really hope that is the end result. Kawhi on the Clippers or Raptors would not only be good for my soul, it would be good for the league. The Lakers are going to be a circus next year with or without him. Let another deserving fan base have their superstar and championship contending team.

Is it possible that Kawhi chooses the Lakers, and then Cousins and Green and eventually Iguodala follow him? Because that feels like what's going to happen if it is in any way possible.

* The Boogie fit is awful fit but he may be running out of suitors. He could be a Celtic for all we know.

* Green wants to get paid and paid big on a 4-year deal.....that can’t happen with the Lakers.

* Iggy is a lock to be a Laker imo once he’s biught out.

If Kawhi signs with the Lakers, there won't be much reason to watch the NBA next season if all three stay healthy. I will still watch the Celtics, but there isn't any need to watch anyone else and living in Lakeland will be no fun at all.
The Warriors were a joy to watch the past several seasons. Same would be true for the Lakers, IMO. I like having the alpha team that everyone knows they have to get through if they hope to win a title.

I think the LeBron Heat were a better balance. They had 3 great players, but were constantly having to fight to either make the Finals or compete there. Every season was compelling or in doubt.

The Durant Warriors were just too much imo, although I suppose one can argue that the Spurs or Rockets could have knocked them off with health.

In any event, the Lakers even with Kawhi will have 3 stars, not 4, and LeBron may well be on the downside of his career. The remaining FA pool has also really dried up. I think that we’ll get competitive series even with that team.

Even though it would close the door on the Celtics’ chances I am fascinated to see how Giannis and Middleton develop in Milwaukee. If they keep progressing, entirely possible at their ages, that team could be unstoppable.

Sure it's possible, but that would be a team with basically no guards in a league that is dominated by guards. That would also be a team with horrible injury histories, so the chances of them staying healthy all season is basically zero.

Danny Green is gonna be 32, and has never made true NBA megabucks. I can't see him taking the sort of discount needed to play for the Lakers.

He’s also won multiple rings (as a key contributor), so zero need to chase.

Honestly this whole saga is bizarre. Kawhi could take weeks for all we know.
If Kawhi is an alpha in every sense - and not just on the basketball court - the real power move is definitely for him to take weeks before making up his mind, and make the entire NBA universe focus on him. If he does then go to the Lakers, that changes the perception of him tagging along on LeBron's coattails: instead, the Lakers are begging him to make their team complete. And if he doesn't go to the Lakers, every day he strings them along is another day that other free agents go off of the market. Perfect either way.

I could see KCP accepting a minimum. In fact there may have been a wink wink agreement when he got paid last year.

Wait until several guys who sign with LAL start getting ‘’deals’ or ‘arrangements’ through Klutch.
Doesn’t that just mean that other top tier superstars are dumb for not starting their own agencies? LeBron is not the only kingmaker in the league (talent-wise).

Kawhi already has two rings. Is he really going to the Lakers to play third fiddle?
Third fiddle? I think he would be the legit favorite to win MVP, and with a little luck he becomes the first guy to win Finals MVP with three teams. Maybe down the road Leonard and Davis win again without James. When all is said and done this might be the path to pass LeBron in the GOAT argument.

OK probably that last bit is bridge too far but I don’t think he’s third fiddle. I heard someone say that if he goes to LAL he’s in the Bosh role. I was thinking James is Wade and Leonard is James.

I don’t see anyone from that hypothetical super team winning the MVP unless the other two get injured; we saw with Golden State that no matter how incredible Steph or Durant played, the presence of the other one negated any MVP hype.

Betting against them for MVP will be a no brainer. You're just hoping there aren't 2 out of 3 season ending injuries.

All these free agents agree to deals within six hours of the "official" start of free agency, and it's somehow strange that the best player in the league is taking his time? Good for him.

Yeah, no kidding -- the "tampering" going on makes a joke of the NBA. Kawhi is doing it much more as it should be done.

Chris "I'm hearing it's a done deal to the Lakers" Broussard backtracks a bit

"I'm told Kawhi has not made any decision yet. Maybe Jerry West and Doc Rivers wowed him last night, maybe they're mulling over a 1-year deal with the Raptors." — @Chris_Broussard

Agreed. Moreso than many such situations where there is information to be had and it is a question of who has the right info, I truly believe here no one knows, possibly including Kawhi himself at this precise moment.

Broussard is an anti-indicator. If he's saying this, I'm worried Kawhi to LAL is a done deal lol.

Green has actually said as much.

https://clutchpoints.com/raptors-news-danny-green-looking-at-maximizing-the-dollars-seeks-four-year-deal/
“This is the time where I’m getting older now, so I think I probably want to get as many years as possible,” Green told Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype. “Because as I get even older, I don’t think there will be many teams offering me that kind of longevity or as much money. I think this is the time where I need to maximize the dollars on the longest amount of years that I can do. I would definitely love to get four years, ideally. But, obviously, I’m 32 years old now, so some teams may not want to offer a four-year deal. But I’d love a three-year or four-year deal.”

It’s kinda of funny that Magic told Kawhi they couldn’t trade for him because Pop wanted like 4 draft picks and they just couldn’t do that, considering what they gave up for AD. Hopefully that’s one of many small things that bother him coming out of his meetings.

Right, someone tell Magic that Kawhi doesn’t mean it at all and he should say as much about the negotiations as he can.

Simmons and Russilo have Kawhi as a laker. They seem pretty matter of fact about it like they know from their sources.

Funnier that Magic had to backtrack on his statement that Pelinka was a back-stabber.

I’d love to be a player of Kawhi’s status and legit have not made decision......and just read about how all of these “sources” already know what I’m thinking.

Cowherd this morning said his sources say he’s back in Toronto for a year. Windhorst something else. Simmons now something else. It’s comedy gold.

Seriously? Simmons entire schtick is one hot take! He used to have a Celtics front office contact (shared both Ricky Davis trades as done deals a full day prior to announcement) but I haven’t seen any evidence of any such contact in LA.

How is that a source out of LA though? Unless he’s banging with Rich Paul or Maverick this sounds like he foresaw the whole entertainment thing. Kudos to him for that.

I listened to simmons and russillo. They leaned Lakers but did not say it with authority. Just that it looked like it was going that way. Simmons has LeBron to LA way before I heard it elsewhere and Jalen (on Simmons pod) had Kawhi out of SA before I heard it anywhere else.
