I was thinking the same thing Snowmanny, Then have the PR team spin it as "Copy Righting this is an expensive undertaken that Tom Seaver and his family doesnt need to take on. instead I have done this and will license the option for Tom to use this as long as he personally* wishes. I am also planning to pledge 25k/50k/100k to the Alzheimer society..."

(I dont know how much it cost....probably a pittance but most people would hear this and say "That Brady is alright".)

*Personally because I can see the kids/wife saying "Oh no we want this so that we can make money off it in the future even if Tom is deceased."

Stupid to be able to trademark a name anyway. I dont care if its "Air" or "Bambino" or "Broadway Joe'. Now if you wanted to Trademark "Air JORDAN" Or "Babe "the Bambino" Ruth" or "Broadway Joe Nameth" that makes some sense. Brady could also offer to TM "Tom Terrific Seaver" for the guy and cover all the costs.

I
-- when the Mets front office succumbed to pressure from execrable Daily News columnist Dick Young to run Tom Seaver out of town. Since that moment, the Mets and their fans have been appalling or worse.
.
Dick Young was the worst. Pre web days I followed sports by reading. So many of the ghost written athlete Bios complained about him. When I was able to get the Sporting News his column wqas full of hate. Incredible how much power a single writer had at that time.

Saw someone on line say that Brady got drafted in the sixth round, was the sixth QB taken, and received his sixth Super Bowl ring on 06/06. I hadn’t made the date observation before.

Somebody with photoshop skills needs to take the old Brady Bunch intro and shop Brady and Giselle into the mom and dad spots and the rings where the kids are

I'm so all the way here for this. It seems like TB12 really enjoys being around Gordon. If (for FUCKS SAKE) the league and calm down about weed (yknow, what with it being legal in a bunch of states, including MA), and he can come back this year and play, it would be a huge benefit to this team. I love that TB12 and Josh are preparing like they're going to play together again and soon -- even if Josh is suspended for 8 or 12 games, it would be such a boon for them to already know their timing at that point. God damn.

And Chris Simms is at it again. Not sure what Brady did to piss him off, but apparently neither Brady nor Brees were as good as Roethlisberger or Cam Newton last season.

Recently uploaded to Youtube: highlights from Tom Brady's first start, which of course came against Peyton and the Colts. Worth a watch if you have a spare 15 minutes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOyoinMUo1c
personal highlights:
1:34 Bryan Cox's hit on Pathon, for which he will always be remembered in New England. Set the tone for the defense on that day, and for the rest of the season.
6:25 Otis Smith with one of the best pick-sixes you will ever see.
7:25 Vinatieri from 48 yards as the clock expires. Shades of things to come.
9:00 CBS graphic, asking which of the 0-2 teams has the best shot at making the playoffs. New England is not even listed on the graphic, which Brent Jones points out to Gus Johnson.
13:05 Bryan Cox again, with one of the best "hey, look at the scoreboard" moments in NFL history after Marcus Pollard scores a meaningless TD for the Colts and dunks the ball over the goalposts.
13:34 Brady passes to Faulk while falling down for a long 4th down conversion. It's obvious that this kid is special.
14:10 First Manning Face of the BB/Brady dynasty.

Antowain Smith is deeply underrated by some Pats fans. I had forgotten how not-just-lumbering he was in 2001.

Liked seeing all those bobbled picks, and, yes, the Otis pick six was special.

Ridiculous Parker shout out and Leonard Myers with a PBU!

Announcers saying one of the Patriots “smelled” out a play.

Still can’t get over how much better Brady is now, although of course he is. But even just in terms of his mobility.

Hope people will keep posting these kinds of highlights packages. Nice to have an off-season rabbit hole AND nice to find highlight packages we haven’t seen over and over via Turning Point and Mic’d Up eps.

That was the first thing that stood out to me. He was way faster than I remembered and could catch much better than I remembered also. Underrated indeed.
+1. He fell off a cliff, but he was a beast.

Some more notes:
  • On the first TD, the first person to congratulate Smith and pick him up off the pile was Brady.
  • The Otis Smith INT return is one of the more incredibly athletic but also great-vision plays I've seen. He had great speed and elusiveness there but also knew exactly how to use his teammates for best effect. I'm sure Belichick loved coaching him.
  • The DPI call at 5:10... I'm surprised they called that in 2001, that fits my recollection of the kind of stuff they'd let go pre-2004.
  • I believe the first manning face of the dynasty was actually at 7:00, if I may correct the record. And then 8:30. And 11:24... Peyton was lucky nobody took his head off for pursuing on the Law INT.
  • 10:25 Antowain Smith gets a rolling hook-kick cleat to his head from one of his own teammates, and it knocks him over backwards. Shots fired.
  • Jim Mora coached that year for Indy. Was that the PLAYOFFS?! year? Why yes, yes it was.

When they show the shots of BB on the sideline, all I can think about is that at that point he was 5-13 in New England and had just lost his franchise QB indefinitely. What kind of odds do you think you could have gotten that 19 years later he'd still be coaching in New England and they had been to 9 Super Bowls and won 6 during that time period?

This was also an early example of Belichick's go-for-the-jugular approach. Up big in the fourth quarter at the 30 or so, most coaches surely would have just taken the 3 points there (especially after Vinatieri had already made one from similar range).

Transcribing for the new board:

TomBrady just took a dump on @maxkellerman Doesn't seem like he's going any where any time soon. P.S. Since Kellerman said Tom Brady is "falling off a cliff." Brady went to 3 Superbowls, won 2 MVPs and passed for 1,233 in 3 straight Superbowls.
Followed with a TB12 instatweet pic of a 61MPH ball speed readout with the caption "Falling off a cliff".
The Kleiman tweet then had a google link that stated that the highest recorded pass velocity recorded at the combine was 60MPH.

I never understood when people would claim that Brady doesn't have a big arm. He throws lasers over the middle. And remember the almost greatest throw and catch in NFL history - the 70+ yard bomb to Moss that was just *barely* tipped away by a Giants' defender at the end of SB 42?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ix9uY6N-0o

The ball is thrown like 72 yards in the air and Aikman says, "Just ran out of arm strength." LOL. Well yeah because he basically tried to throw it the entire length of the football field, Troy.

Someday Kellerman will be right. He just needs to keep his job long enough so he doesn’t get fired or retires before Brady.

Nah, it will be like Shula. They'll find Kellerman in whatever obscure hole he's living in so he can croak out some b.s.

Kellerman knows he is trolling. He is actually kind of hilarious in these clips I've watched. It is performance art, don't ever take it seriously. Think of him as the Andy Kaufman of football analysis.

Kellerman is the worst thing that ever happened to boxing. Including the multiple feds and the deaths.

I'd be very happy with a permanent thread-ban on Kellerman and his words of inanity. Mods?

Trolling is one thing and can be funny.

Trolling for 3+ years turns it back on him.

Just because these things are great offseason fodder, especially for Pats' fans...

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/top-10-qbs-in-nfl-tom-brady-aaron-rodgers-battle-for-second-behind-unanimous-no-1/
3. Tom Brady
2. Aaron Rodgers
1. Patrick Mahomes

I don't have a problem putting Mahomes #1. But Rodgers ahead of Brady?

Last 5 seasons:
Brady: 65.5%, 21,365 yds, 158 td, 37 int, 101.9 rating, 59-17 record (.776), 4 Super Bowl appearances, 3 Super Bowl titles, 1 MVP
Rodgers: 63.7%, 18,747 yds, 150 td, 28 int, 101.0 rating, 42-28-1 record (.600), 0 Super Bowl appearances, 0 Super Bowl titles, 1 MVP

Last 2 seasons:
Brady: 66.0%, 8,932 yds, 61 td, 19 int, 100.2 rating, 24-8 record (.750), 2 Super Bowl appearances, 1 Super Bowl title, 1 MVP
Rodgers: 63.0%, 6,117 yds, 41 td, 8 int, 97.5 rating, 10-12-1 record (.455), 0 Super Bowl appearances, 0 Super Bowl titles, 0 MVP

Last 5 seasons' passer ratings:
Brady: 97.4, 102.2, 112.2, 102.8, 97.7
Rodgers: 112.2, 92.7, 104.2, 97.2, 97.6

I fail to see ANY argument whatsoever that Rodgers is currently better than Brady. Not that it matters, but these are the things that get discussed in the offseason.

All the writers and talking heads love Rodgers because from time to time he’ll make some ridiculous throw that seems impossible. I’ll fully admit that Rodgers is more accurate than Brady I’m insane deep and across the body throws and stuff like that. Some of these guys seem to think that’s the only skill that goes into making a qb great

Youth, I guess.
It’s not youth, it’s the perceived “athleticism” of Rodgers and the lack of same for Brady.

Aaron Rodgers is an athlete who is able to make impossible plays/throws. Tom Brady is a pretty boy with a supermodel wife who shys away from big hits. It’s all a bunch of macho posturing.
