Series stats so far...

Goals:
- StL 13 (12/1/0)
- Bos 16 (9/6/1)

Shots on Goal:
- StL 145
- Bos 147

PIM:
- StL 44
- Bos 36

BTW, why are people crapping on Bennington? Here's his season stats compared to Tuukka's:

Bennington: 1.89 GAA, .927 sv%
Rask: 2.48 GAA, .912 sv%

I think Rask is great, but it's not clear to me why some people are saying that Bennington is not good. Those numbers would belie that notion.

One thought on the suspension...
St. Louis can clinch and Barbashev is missing the game. Might the “fear” of missing a game 7 cause any of the Blues to hold up just a bit in game 6?
Pulling up on one or two hits could make the difference in a series that has been this close.
I highly doubt it.

Goals:
- StL 13 (12/1/0)

So playing even strength, St. Louis has the scoring edge, 12-9.
Bruins on the power play, Boston has the scoring edge, 6-0.
Blues on the power play, the scoring is even, 1-1.

As long as the Bruins can stay even in 5-on-5, they should be ok.

It's Binnington, and he was a career minor leaguer who was nearly sent to the East Coast League last season and has a grand total of 33 regular season games. He sure looks pretty good, but his season has been a SSS, and we've seen a metric shit ton(ne) of goalies come into the league, light it up, and get exposed as time goes on.

From what I've seen he's got pretty good positioning, skates well, handles the puck as good as about anyone in the league, and has ice water in his veins. He's also been a rebound machine who has been prone to having duds where he gives up 5 goals every couple of weeks.

Also what @DrewDawg said.

Just remind the Bruins of 50 years ago when Jack Kent Cooke , then owner of the Lakers had balloons on top of the forum and passed around leaflets saying....When the Lakers win balloons will drop and the USC marching band will come on the court playing Happy days are here again. Russell read it and said...…"Those bleeping balloons are staying up there". And of course they did.

One of the commentators on NBCSN noted the reduction in Boston PP goals and surmised that the Blues must have done something. And then just left it at that.

It was kinda weird. I generally just lurk here but thought I would share.

Good win. Man this blues team had so many villains. Schenn is flying under the radar but he's had about the dirtiest series I've seen in recent history.

They don't have to. I'm sure whatever contract they offer will be a huge raise over his ELC, but it'll be short of 7/$70m, which is what he could surely get as a UFA.

I had thought that Backes and the in-game wing rotation was affecting Debrusk. Turns out it was affecting Krejci, too -- maybe even more the Debrusk. I dont know if it was the concern over covering for Backes's lack of speed, or unfamiliarity with the changing cast, but to my eyes, he showed the biggest improvement (beyond the scoresheet dept.) over the previous games.
I wonder if Kuhlman would have been in for game 5 if the need for 7D wasn't so apparent?

One more to go. Keys continue to be the same. Get good breakouts, and get the top line going. When they do that, they win. When they don't, they don't.

There's no chance of it happening but damn the league should at least think about suspending Bortuzzo. WTF was that garbage at the end on Acciari? Piece of shit player on a piece of shit team.

agree with most of that...but takes a lot to get suspended for game 7 finals...

It won’t happen this year, but I really like the idea (I think it came up in the game thread) to have penalty minutes at the end of a game carry into the start of the next. It wouldn’t solve penalties at the end of a series-winning game, but it might help in a situation like this.

No, but shit. It's the last minute of a blowout game, Cassidy sent out the 3rd line for a 5 on 3 PP instead of either one of his PP units, the game was over. And Bortuzzo fucking assaults Acciari. Two huge cross checks in the back followed by the punch. And then the fucker winks as he goes off the ice.

He ought to be suspended.

I think they should adopt a rule similar to how the NBA handles technicals. Accumulate a certain number of misconducts and you are automatically suspended. A game misconduct could count double. This is Bortuzzo's only misconduct for the full season regular and playoffs, so it wouldn't affect game 7 in this case if the rule existed. The NHL could (and should) allow that misconducts can be applied after the game based on further review. It would force players that pull crap after the whistle and away from the play to clean up their act. Guys like Bortuzzo don't suddenly do crap like that. It's just the 1st time he's been called during a game. And before it's said, Marchand would obviously be in jeopardy if something like this was implemented and I'd be completely fine with that.

Yes to all of this but I would add that the most important contributing factor in a Game 7 W will be scoring first. St. Louis is a completely different team playing from behind.

Yeah that wink was basically "We can do whatever we want right now and you can't do anything about it".

Thankfully nobody got hurt...

Sadly, I fully expect the Blues in G7 to be back to head-hunting and late hits...especially if down. Physical abuse has been the only way they've gotten the upper hand. Hopefully the Refs don't swallow their whistles, but I'm not optimistic.

Yeah if the Blues are down late in Game 7 expect it to get VERY dirty. Suspensions don't matter in the final game of the season and the refs have shown an inability to correctly call penalties on those types of hits in real time.

I can't think of a team I've grown from having no real opinion on at the beginning of the series to hating as quickly and as much as this Blues team (Vancouver was obviously very hateable too, but I felt like I already kind of didn't like them before that series started). They are basically the NHL version of the 2014 Seahawks - their heads are WAY too far up their own asses about how "tough" they are. And we all remember how the Seahawks responded after the Butler interception...

Suspensions still matter. They would be suspended for the start of next season. Obviously not to the same degree but it's still money out of pocket.

Sorry if this has already been posted. Stolen from cbs and Michael Hurley.
Thanks for this.

Tangent alert: not surprising to hear Dale Hunter's name. His hit that ended Turgeon's season (as Turgeon was celebrating a goal nearly 20 seconds after the puck was in the net) was worthy of a season long suspension at a minimum. So, yes, expect Berube to goon it up both early and late in Game 7.

Between here and everywhere.
If anyone wants some additional Bruins porn, go to the NHL Instagram account. They have Charlie mic'd up, and posted a clip of him telling Chara what to do off of a faceoff.

Shore to Orr to Bourque to Chara to Charlie.

Bruins are around 62% odds to win game 7 according to the betting line. I'd probably put them closer to 80%, but anything can happen in a game...

Do we have any kind of lead on Grzelcyk's status? I assume not given the particular injury and the generalized cone of silence, but I haven't heard anything since he was ruled out for Game 6 a couple days ago.

EDIT: Glad to see the board update didn't kill good ol' avatar Burt!

Berube is a goon. Basically telling his players to play dirty because it's the last game of the year so don't worry about suspensions.

"Berube said he wants to see more physicality, saying some players might have held back because of the possibility of suspension. He credited Bruins for boxing out well but said the Blues have to find a way to get inside more"
