One of the great MLB transaction lines of all time.

mlbtr: The Blue Jays announced Thursday that outfielder Teoscar Hernandez has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo and that fellow outfielder Socrates Brito cleared waivers and has been assigned outright to Buffalo following his recent DFA.

odd situation in Detroit... A's took a 5-3 lead heading into bottom 7th, it got rained out... but it's suspended, not final. they're going to continue the game when the Tigers visit Oakland in early September.

it's an official game and not tied. Detroit did not get as many turns to bat as the A's did, but this is not something I've seen before.

Seems like a lousy rule... it's only suspended because of the timing of Oakland taking the lead and being the road team. If they had already held the lead prior to that inning (or if it had been Detroit that just taken the lead) the game would be considered over. Keep it simple: 5 innings played (or 4½ with the home team leading) and it's not tied, call it a game.

...I regret that I had plans this afternoon and missed Shane Bieber's dominance of the Orioles (complete game shutout on 5 hits, 0 walks and 15 Ks). Chris Davis and Dwight Smith Jr were both saddled with the golden sombrero. Davis is hitting a good-by-his-standards .179/.267/.333, but now has a 7-game multi-strikeout streak going. He also hasn't seen his batting average reach .200 for a single day since the end of the 2017 season.

Could I ask why you think it's a stupid rule? imagine the Red Sox take the lead in the top of the 8th against your Indians in Cleveland. However before the bottom of the 8th; a freak monsoon off the Lake results in unplayable conditions. Would you still consider the rule stupid? The whole reason for the suspended game rules dates back to I think 1976 or 1977 when the Yankees took a lead late in the game against the Os in Baltimore. Earl Weaver who was about 5 steps ahead of most managers at that time, then ordered the grounds crew to take their time covering the field. The score then reverted back to the previous inning when the game was tied. The game was declared suspended and continued at a later date.

Because it's not about having equal chances to score, but only about when the scoring took place. If Oakland had taken the lead an inning earlier the rules don't demand any fairness that the Tigers also get another opportunity to score, but because they had just scored that inning it suddenly matters. As your example shows, it creates an extra advantage to the home team and encourages them to delay the pace of play if they fall behind in bad weather.

I guess I believe in the equality of chances. I think that if one team goes ahead in the top of the inning, the home team should get a chance to bat since the inning would not be complete.
Edit: I had my facts slightly wrong in the Baltimore example. Baltimore led by 2 runs entering the 7th. The Yankees scored 3 runs to take the lead, but then the rains came. Since Baltimore never batted in the 7th the score AT THE Time went to the last completed inning. Since Baltimore was leading then, they were declared the victors. After that game they changed the rules
Are you saying that in 2016 after the Cubs took the lead in the World Series and their was a rain delay, you would have been A Ok with them calling the game right there and declaring the Cubs champions.

I'd have no argument against it if the rule called for absolute equality of chances, but it's only circumstantial - if the away team just took the lead during that inning they've decided the home team needs an equal chance, but if they already held the lead they don't... how is that equal? I also don't favor allowing managers to make a mockery of a game to take advantage of obscure rules. The World Series is played under different rules, so it's a strawman. I don't have time to search for it now, but I know I've heard it discussed during broadcasts that a World Series game will always be suspended if it can't be resumed... fairly certain it was explained when it started raining during game #7 of the 2016 World Series.

I don't get your critique. The idea is to give both teams the same number of half-innings to score. If Oakland had taken the lead in the top of the 6th instead of the 7th inning, Detroit had the chance to equalize in the bottom of the 6th, and if they failed to do that they missed their chance.

I'll go back to the hypothetical given where the Red Sox take the lead in the top of the 8th in Cleveland and it's rained out before the bottom of the 8th can be played... that wouldn't bother me any more than if Boston had taken the lead in the 7th and the rain still came in the middle of the 8th, except the rule dictates that I have to care, because in that case it would be ruled a complete game even though Boston had 24 outs to work with and Cleveland only 21.

That said, this started out as an off-hand comment and I further explained my view point when asked. The truth is, it's a rule that rarely comes up, and I don't care nearly enough to continue arguing it for the sake of arguing.

Seesaw game in Queens, WAS scores 3 in the top of the 8th and Strasburg leaves with a 4-3 lead. The horrendous WAS bullpen gives it right back yet again, a 3 run HR from newly promoted old guy Carlos Gomez, this stat was coming into today:

Worst bullpen ERAs in the modern era (since 1920)

1. 1930 Phillies 8.03
2. 2019 Nationals 6.89
3. 1936 Browns 6.88
4. 1950 Browns 6.81
5. 1936 Philly Athletics 6.61
6. 1930 Pirates 6.53
7. 1929 Phillies 6.43

Marlins with their second straight series sweep, six wins in a row. They are tied in the loss column with NatsTown now, with a weekend series against each other.

Kevin Kiermaier with a 3-run homer that never even reached the warning track as Leonys Martin and Oscar Mercado both dove for a dying liner in left-center. Mercado took a knee to the midsection. There is nothing enjoyable about being an Indians fan anymore (I say as Martin misplays another one).

The Twins are going to have an 8 game lead in the Central once the Indians game ends.

I believe his career high in homers was 26, and he was far short of that last year. He’s had an amazing start so far.

I'm still not convinced the Twins are particularly good, but I know the Indians aren't, and someone is going to take advantage of the rest of the AL Central. I'm tired of hearing the Indians lineup is "slumping"... Lindor and Santana are fine, Ramirez is a train wreck who can't adjust to the outside breaking stuff to save his life, Bauers, Luplow and Mercado might all be useful someday, but that day probably isn't in 2019. The rest are simply terrible hitters. Add in the pitching injuries and they've stuck their #6, #7 & #8 starters in situations where they needed to be nearly perfect.

But at least Larry Dolan can maintain his profit margin this year.

The Twins look good. Obviously that comes with the huge asterisk that they are, you know, the Twins. But they have deep hitting and a legitimately decent pitching staff for the first time in, jeez, 15 years. Jorge Polanco is the most exciting player you haven’t thought much about, and he’s 25.

But until they get a starter that has proven postseason success, I’m not getting too excited.

I haven't been watching, but I just saw that the White Sox are beating the Astros again. Anyone who knows how they're doing it, please post here. TIA.

The Marlins and Indians are both still looking for their first triple of the season. Going back to last year, the Marlins have played 59 consecutive tripleless games and the Indians 51. I can't find the record for consecutive games without a triple, but the 2017 Blue Jays hold the record for fewest in a season with 5.

The record is 67 games by the 2016 Orioles. Marlins are 2nd on the list with 60 games now. Cleveland's 51 game streak is tied for 11th.

Cavan Biggio with his first big league hit today, followed it up with his first big league homerun. Makes me feel old that the Jays have both Craig Biggio and Vlad’s kids in the lineup.

Former Red Sox Andrew Miller chokes and blows a save in the top 9th.
I would describe it as a blown save of a save, Hicks was the one trying to close it who let the first four runners reach in a 3-0 game. Miller came in with no one out in a 3-2 game and guys on second and third and allowed them to tie it (still going but Brebbia is in now trying to keep it tied) .

Bryce Harper leads all of baseball with 73 strikeouts and is hitting .227. Only 12 and a half years to go.
It's almost like this wasn't exactly like his performance last season.

The Cardinals bullpen collapsing, costing Jack Flaherty a win, just completely fucked me in fantasy basbeall this week. I hope Hicks/Miller are happy.

How does your fantasy league not use QS?

That should be the standard for any League.
