I mean, maybe, but I doubt anyone is leaking to people that would leak to SAS.
It's pretty hilarious anyone would take this Stephen A Smith guess seriously.

The last time he tried to guess on KDs future, he had him seriously considering the Lakers. Durant laughed at this, didn't even meet with the Lakers, and Smith threatened Durant on TV.

Probably not the best source for Durant news.

100% agree with this. SAS has made a small fortune getting loud and making sh!t up
This made me curious, in my head I figured SAS was a low 6 digit. After a quick google, I see that he's in line to make $10mm a year. On so many levels, that is truly amazing.

I don't think it's SAS being wrong as much as that I suspect it's the Knicks feeding him the info.

For whatever it’s worth: I just met a person from 24/7 sports agency and he said that Kyrie just couldn’t gel with coach Stevens. I don’t recall that being an issue I’ve heard yet.
Said it’s between Nets, Knicks, and Celtics. We shall see...

Couldn't gel with Stevens and yet they're in his top 3? Doesn't sound right

I agree. He basically hinted that the Nets were the favorites and that Kyrie didn’t love the Knicks because of Dolan. I told him I was a Celtics fan and that may be why he listed them.

Brad may be a bit of a Poindexter, but c'mon. He's been falling on his sword for this team all season long. We should start a thread: "Annoying Kyrie Quotes and Remarks."

That seems as likely as any of these other rumors.
I think there has to be a decent chance. LA is kind of boxed in right now. They went Lebron and thought they’d pull another superstar but didn’t. If the rumors are true that most of the big dogs are lining up elsewhere they’d be under tremendous pressure to do anything to avoid another season of Lebron and 4 jags. They need to be in on anyone good they can convince to pair up with Lebron

The only guy prior to Kyrie that Brad seemed to have a tough time with was Jameer Nelson. Almost everyone else seemed to like playing for, and played well for Stevens.

Irving has made a few comments about play calls, defense against certain players, etc throughout the course of the season.

But he can make most of that up assuming he doesn’t suffer massive injury since the deal lengths are different.
Right, and recent history shows that star players just don’t value that 5th year at all (for the reason you mentioned).

Isn’t he opting out of any deal after two years to re-up on the 10 year veteran full max, anyways?

Probably. There are a lot of permutations, and basically none of them have the 5th year as an attractive carrot.

I agree that the difference in total amount earned is not insignificant, but will not be the determining factor in deciding where he signs his next contract. The link provided estimates his off-court earnings at 17 million per year.

Why is it LOL that he'd play with Lebron again? They publicly buried the hatchet this year, and both of them are looking for a superstar team-up.
The Laker thing -- dysfunction all around -- sort of makes sense. It'd probably be a better supporting cast than they had in Cleveland, or at least arguably so...depending on how Ball and Ingram and Kuzma progress and if they can stay healthy.

I think that if they landed Kyrie they might actually beg Boston for a sign & trade so that they can publicly recoup something for Ball. I mean people here are trashing Tatum because he didn't improve enough, but Ball took an actual step backwards from numbers that weren't all that great to begin with. In two years what he's shown to be good at are managing transition offense and getting injured. I mean he defends the SG spot pretty well, but Boston already has a better version of that guy in Marcus.

Marcus could only dream of having the court vision that Ball has.

If we lose Kyrie, I'd like it to be for something. A pass first PG for this system is OK, I suppose.

Man, if Kyrie goes back to Lebron, I imagine his rep is gonna take a hit. It's one thing if he stays and they bring in AD. But if you shoot your way out of Cleveland because of Lebron, then, when shit gets hard, run back to him---well, it's not a good a look.

"Rep" with who? Kyrie's self-esteem is on an astral plane of its own, so he won't flinch, and one assumes his peers have always had a pretty good idea of who he is as a player and a person. I'm guessing he doesn't much care about what we or SAS might think of him.

He'd have to sign a 3 year deal to do that. I'd think with his knee injury history he'd try to lock in more years, but just a guess on my part.

They could get something for Ball if they wanted to unload him. He's got some NBA level skills and he's only 20. The injuries and the baggage that comes with him will make the return pretty weak, but I don't think they'd have to give him away for nothing.

The $17 million a year Kyrie earns for off-court stuff is driven by his “rep.” I agree it’s not a self-esteem thing, but I’ll guarantee you that he cares.

The Knicks and Nets have a nice opportunity to stroke his massive ego during this process, painting a picture of Kyrie, a New York (area) native, coming "home" and being a conquering hero.

Obviously that would come with all the endorsement opportunities needed to sweeten the financials.

Meanwhile, if he's paying any attention (and I kind of assume from his personality that he is) he just got booed off the court by his own fans in Boston and is being discussed in all the sports media (right or wrong) as a selfish coach-killer who tops out as a #2.

None of that is making Danny's job any easier right now. Also he just had a heart attack ☹.

Terry Rozier does not want Terry Rozier playing for the Celtics if Kyrie Irving is still on the team, because that would cause Terry Rozier to think that Terry Rozier would have to sacrifice being Terry Rozier again.

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/26745986/rozier-to-go-celts-stay-intact

This makes me want Kyrie to stay a bit more. I don't like people that talk about themselves in the 3rd person this much.
Agree. I prefer players like Kyrie, who invent new persons to talk about themselves in.

Yeah, but if Terry goes, who else will dribble up court and shoot a contested 3 with 18 seconds left in the clock?

Oh. The entire roster. Right.

Steve Bulpett on Kyrie chatter at the combine. A lot of uncertainty as most already know. Some teams that were intent on trying to get him are now having cold feet. Teams are letting it be known that they want Kyrie if another marquee FA comes with him. A WC GM says Boston was where he wanted to go all along.
The most interesting bit of information from several sources that we’ve been able to consolidate and confirm is that some teams thought to have interest in Irving as a free agent are now a great deal more wary. Based on the way things played out with the Celtics this season and Irving’s role both off the court all year and on it in the playoff loss to Milwaukee, certain clubs are concerned about putting too many eggs in his basket right away.

Two teams for certain are telling people they will only go after him if they land another marquee free agent and that player says he wants Irving. In each of these cases, the initial target is different. (There was worry on one of those clubs that the basketball ops people might be overruled by ownership and told to make Irving a primary aim, but that organization is now on the same page.)

What’s interesting to some is even that Irving is so potentially available this summer. When teams were trying to get into the race for him two years ago, they were informed by his side that he would definitely not re-sign with them.

“We were told that the team he wanted to go to was getting ready to trade for him,” said one general manager. “And that team was Boston. So the Celtics were where he wanted to go. He got what he wanted. Now here we are two years later. Crazy.”
And the way things went for the Celtics has caused some of Irving’s expected pursuers to, if not get uptight, then to at least pause for a moment. The talk has been fast and often borderline furious. One Knick source said three months ago that people above him in the organization were convinced the club was getting both Irving and Kevin Durant. A prominent agent shook his head at that and said the ongoing dilemma was that Kyrie wanted Brooklyn and Durant wanted the Knicks. Another league source said the Irving/Brooklyn talk was just a smokescreen. But a Warrior source said he knew for sure that Irving had spoken to Durant about the possibility of teaming up.

And while that last line may seem explosive, it could also be simply a case where star players sit and chat about what-ifs. Or it could be more. No one really knows, and even some of the people who know more than others are unsure of what Irving and even Durant will ultimately decide.

The word "stuck" is interesting. People simply shouldn't root for the Celtics if they think their best offensive player is a burden.

If Irving returns, it raises the odds that they get Davis. Maybe Kyrie is a bit more likable and clutch when opposing teams cannot simply focus on taking him away. The Cs might have been the easiest team to defend in the playoffs outside of the Pacers and Pistons, neither of whom had any kind of offense.

Their best offensive player isn't a burden, he's poison. I'm dismayed that the league-wide market for him does not seem to be materializing.
You know his market how? Has free agency begun yet? Are you privy to discussions between Irving's agents and prospects suitors?

If he’s poison, the Celtics need a lot more of it to compete with Milwaukee and Toronto.
This year's team was dysfunctional. The pieces didn't fit. Get rid of one piece, or multiple pieces. Sure, trade at least two of the players obtained through the largesse of Billy King for a year of Anthony Davis-- and see what happens. That team will be another disappointment.

As for Kyrie's market, I read the rumors just like everyone else. Maybe other GMs watch film.

So you know his market based on some conjecture in a publication with a slant during a period where free agency isn't really even open? Got it.

You have no facts and your positions lack data and often directly contradict what the stats say. That is not to say that your statements that the C's were dysfunctional and that "the pieces didn't fit" are incorrect - you are right on both fronts But if Boston were to follow your recipe of ridding itself of the poison that is Kyrie Irving, they will likely struggle to be a .500 team. And you know for a fact how badly it will turn out if Boston acquires another elite player to pair with Irving, thereby making the team much harder to defend?

What is the next Powerball drawing? And how do you manage all of your wealth that you acquired by seeing the future?

I can see the future about as well as you can. The difference is that I don't like what I see, because Ainge is likely to bring the guy back. After Kyrie assesses his options, he'll say "I meant to come back to Boston all along" and then he and Ainge will sing kumbaya together.

For possible "multiple teams", I'd go

Celtics
Knicks

good news, we're already at "multiple teams" with two near locks

Nets
Lakers
Pacers
Bulls
Suns
Magic

Maybe all of those teams won't offer Kyrie a max deal, but "multiple teams" surely will. I'd guess a half dozen teams minimum.
I know there are rumors of Durant coming to NYC but I'll believe it when I see it. Durant would be crazy to leave the championship factory that is Golden State to join a last place, dysfunctional organization just because a 2nd tier star* with character issues happens to be willing to join him. I mean, that team would have significantly less talent than what he had in OKC. Why the hell would he see that as the best place to build his legacy (or whatever the fuck his justification would be for leaving)? But yeah, maybe he's a bit of a headcase himself and goes that direction, but it's hard to see that as likely - despite the rumors.
The only other team on that list with a good chance of being a better destination than the Cs is the Lakers (if they sign two stars), but that also makes no sense to me. Call him World B. Flat, a headcase or personality disordered, but LeBron has already experienced Kyrie's particular brand of dysfunction and I can't imagine him having any interest in revisiting it. He'll most likely have better options.
So if logic prevails, Kyrie will be looking at a bunch of scenarios that are all worse than Boston - at least if he still cares about winning, and especially if Boston is able to secure AD. I suppose Indiana would be an interesting destination but I don't see Kyrie choosing it and it would be a strange fit for them as well. They already have Oladipo at the point and you'd have to wonder if they'd worry about how Kyrie would affect the chemistry of what was an overachieving young team in 2018.
