Is it theoretically possible that Ellsbury sees the field?
No, they talked about that this weekend:

"Ellsbury (foot) has had "some things" pop up in his rehab in Tampa that haven't allowed him to progress to baseball activities, according to manager Aaron Boone, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports."

Plus he is on the 60 day DL, so couldn't be activated until at least late May even if he was healthy.

If it wasn't for insurance being involved and almost certainly investigating whatever is claimed, I would be sure that there was something fishy going on, but as it is, it is just really confusing.

He has played a total of 24 innings there since 2014, but it is theoretically possible.
Desperate times...

This is all very fishy. But I wish they were playing him. He wasn't THAT bad.

NY's OF is currently Tauchman, Gardner, and Frazier, Wade is the 4th OF. What they need is another Tauchman-type, a AAAA guy with at least one option (so they won't lose him when guys return) who is blocked in his current organization, then Wade can go back to utility infielder and Estrada can go back to AAA.

Rusney Castillo has an option.

Frazier to the IL per RAB.

Unreal injury luck this season.
I've never seen anything like this before. Not this many major injuries, this early in a season. Unbelievable. I mean, I don't have any sympathy for the Yankees, but still. Crazy.

What's even crazier is that they're 13-10, just 2.5 games out of first, and 4.5 games ahead of Boston. That's actually depressing (for Sox fans anyway). If/when the Yankees get their stud players back...holy smokes.

On the other hand, when everyone gets back, it's going to be like a new season and they could go through April slumps in May instead.

That is because it hasn’t really happened before, like I said in the other thread.

NY trades for Cameron Maybin, who was in AAA for CLE and is an actual healthy OF (for now).

When I realized yesterday that Gio Urshela has no options left, I worried briefly that it would be hard for NY to keep him once guys started coming back, so I tried to figure out how that would work out. Good news is he should be safe at least until Didi or Judge is back, and that is assuming no one else is out then.

If progress reports are accurate, we could see this team within a few weeks:

Sanchez-C
Voit-1B
Gleyber-2B
Tulo-SS
Urshela-3B
Frazier-LF
Hicks-CF
Stanton-RF
Andujar-DH

LeMahieu, Gardner, Romine-bench

Maybin DFAd (he will likely clear waivers and make it to Scranton), Tauchman/Wade/Ford/Estrada all sent down.

They are both day to day, LeMahieu said he expects to play Tuesday. Of course, Clint Frazier said that too and then was given ten days off, so we’ll see. Andujar and Tulowitzki are both close to returning from reports.

Chad Green's first outing tonight in AAA, he said the other day they had figured out what was wrong and now he just needed to implement it. Dubious about that, but early returns are promising as he went 2 0 0 0 1 5, 34 pitches is a bit high though.

Andujar and Tulo playing their first rehab game in Tampa tonight, looks like we may get some reinforcements this weekend.

Jon Heyman: Yankees (and presumably others) would be interested in Keuchel should he wait until after draft to sign.
I don’t listen to podcasts so only saw that one line, but don’t see how that makes sense. They just let Gio Gonzalez go, and in another month (after the draft), Severino and Montgomery will hopefully be that much closer to returning. Losisiga is also waiting in AAA, so that is 8 guys counting the current 5.

So basically more Boras-related bullshit from Heyman.

Andujar went 0 for his first 7 in high A rehab games, but followed that with three hits in a row, two run single, two run HR, single. He was pinch run for after the single, guessing he will be back tomorrow.

Tulo left early. Felt something in the same quad he injured last month. ESPN story.
Yep, but Andujar and Clint seem ready, dunno if they'll make Clint play a minor league game first but they sure could use him.

Updates:

LeMahieu still active, not starting, available off the bench.
Andujar will be activated tomorrow.
Frazier is playing two rehab games in AA this weekend, expected to be activated Monday.
Hicks is close to playing rehab games, they expect him activated in 7-10 days.
Didi is possibly a few weeks away from rehab assignments, his whole recovery has gone very well.
Tulo had another calf strain and is shut down for a week.
No update on Stanton, although he is back in NY.
And no real update on Judge, although he's been in the weight room and doing 'range of motion' work.

Because a malcontent who can’t hit or field is an asset? Parra and Altherr were both also DFAd this week but Clint should be back Monday.

Nestor Cortes Jr. coming up tomorrow, I guess for Barrett? He is not on the 40 man, but he is stretched out and on full rest. It won't be his MLB debut because he pitched a few games for BAL in April 2018 as a rule 5 pick before they returned him to NY, but good for him, another guy getting a chance for NY this year. He has been up and down in AAA but was dominant his last start, 7.1 1 0 0 3 9, 107 pitches, and took a no-hitter into the 8th.

Edit: Yep, Barrett back down but they still need to clear a 40 man spot, maybe Betances isn't on the 60 day DL yet?

Scranton reporter Conor Foley on Twitter:

"Nestor Cortes Jr. is going up to New York. There are a lot of excited teammates here."

"Nestor Cortes: “I thought it would never come again, honestly, just because, you know, the way it went down last year and stuff like that. But I found my way back and I’m so happy right now. I can’t describe my feelings right now.”"

"Cortes, remember, made his big league debut with Baltimore last season as a Rule 5 pick, then was returned to the Yankees."

"Getting the call this time around with the Yankees? “100 percent sweeter,” Cortes said. “It’s the team I got drafted by. It’s the team everybody wishes to be in New York with, so yeah, it’s definitely a lot sweeter and a lot better.”"

Cortes Jr. isn't a big prospect but he shows promise at times, he was dominant in the Dominican Winter League this past winter, 42 26 9 8 10 45, 1.71 ERA and a 0.857 WHIP). He likely won't be up for too long, Chad Green is stretched out to 45 pitches (although he got hit in his third inning today) and Boone made a point today of talking up Green's improvement since going to AAA , but on the other hand, adding Cortes Jr. to the 40 man makes him much more of an option for the rest of the season. Like Mike Ford, in the organization for a long time, both taken and returned in the rule 5, probably a AAAA player but nice to see him get a shot even temporarily.

Keep Hicks away from The Trop for his rehab return. Bad field surface. Kind of a shame because this is sort of a big series, for early May — which means it’s not a big series.
