This is why I don't bet. I would have thought Spieth would be the favorite.Might not get a better price on Spieth at Augusta than the 20-1 right now.
Spieth is obviously very talented, but he's kind of a mess right now. This is why I don't bet. I would have thought Spieth would be the favorite.
Same hereFleetwood at 20-1 was the one that caught my eye.
His putting wasn't the problem this weekend, although it's been part of the problem this year. On Saturday, Spieth hit a total of 0 fairways on his first 8 chances. His driver was an absolute debacle and he was grinding on every hole, out of position and playing behind the trees.Spieth is obviously very talented, but he's kind of a mess right now.
Last week is instructive. He was in contention after the second round and completely lost his game for nine holes to open the third round, shooting a 42 on the front nine. And his putting this year has been enough to drive a man to drink.
Maybe it clicks into place and his putting touch returns. In that case, he's one of the favorites. However, if his recent form is indicative, 20-1 feels charitable.
Finau at 30-1 is a steal.
Frequent multi-hole patches of being totally horrible at golf doesn’t mesh with Augusta. Big numbers are available. It’s not like Spieth’s putter has been a tremendous asset lately either. Maybe he shows up but 20-1 feels like his recent play isn’t weighed nearly enough. He’s just not close to that guy from 2+ years ago right now.Spieth is obviously very talented, but he's kind of a mess right now.

Holy Moly, I forgot about that. I remember watching him do it live and thinking, "Oh well, maybe next year for him." But no, dude showed UP. Walking any course would be awful, but Augusta?!?! It's almost unfathomable that he was able to play and to such a high level as he did last year.Anyone who dislocates their ankle in a practice round, pops it back in and keeps playing as if nothing happened is a freakin' boss. (Dislocated after making a hole-in-one in the par 3 contest.)
The fact that he was able to grind out a top 10 walking four rounds on that ankle is astounding.
I'm Team Finau.
~70-75 guys with a chance once you lop off the amateurs and old guys/semi-retired past champions.only 86 in the field this year......all of those odds are good for anyone to come out on top
We’re so used to seeing this course only in Masters conditions, so it was fascinating to watch Saturday’s round played from the member tees and probably closer approximate what the original design intended.
Especially walking 4 rounds on THAT course. Augusta is a bear of a course with tons of hills.Anyone who dislocates their ankle in a practice round, pops it back in and keeps playing as if nothing happened is a freakin' boss. (Dislocated after making a hole-in-one in the par 3 contest.)

That's a huge thing I loved about watching that tournament (on top of the high class golf). Seeing tees placed where I would likely play them/hit the ball makes it a totally different course. This year's offering was soundly led off by the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur Golf Championship, won by Jennifer Kupcho in a great march with Maria Fassi. It was well worth the watch. Great golf all around. An interesting observation by SBNation:
Jennifer Kupcho grew up playing out of one my frequent local muni courses. I had no idea who she was until this weekend, but now I'm hoping to round out her foursome some random Tuesday afternoon or something. This year's offering was soundly led off by the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur Golf Championship, won by Jennifer Kupcho in a great march with Maria Fassi. Yeah. Chamblee lost his mind over it last night.Wait - Brooks Koepka lost 30 lbs for his photo shoot in the ESPN Body magazine? Wtf?
Makes any sense? It's certainly not what I want to hear as someone who's eyes lit up seeing him 25-1Yeah. Chamblee lost his mind over it last night.
Yes, which is why he's lost distance this year.Wait - Brooks Koepka lost 30 lbs for his photo shoot in the ESPN Body magazine? Wtf?
Thanks, but I am already back in Boston. Had a chance for W / TH but work commitments made me have to pass it up.@Foxy42 or anyone else in the area for the Masters: I might have a few extra tickets for the Hootie and the Blowfish/Shania Twain concert Friday night. I couldn't care less about either act, but they're free tickets so I might as well check it out. (Okay, full disclosure, I bought that "I Only Wanna Be With You" Hootie CD in like 1994, but have not followed his career at all since.) PM me if you're around and interested in going.
Made me Google.Fuuuuck Tiger had to pull out with the neck injury again!
You suck. I was scrambling for an alternate in my Masters pool before scrolling down.Fuuuuck Tiger had to pull out with the neck injury again!
You are a bad person.Fuuuuck Tiger had to pull out with the neck injury again!
It's an interesting pool where we pick 5 people. 1 is designated the winner (Rory for me) and one has to be outside the top 30 (Jordan Speith). Tiger is just one of the 5 I need to make it through the cut. I agree Rory is going to win. He looks like he's been tuning his game for this all year.Well your first mistake was taking him!
Rory is going to win.
