What do you mean? It actually looks less spread out than last year. I think it was 1:45 and 2:10 for the third and fourth first games previously.

I can't believe they're doing SH and Wofford at 9:40PM local time though.

One of my favorite days of the year I spend all year not watching any college basketball, then watch the lead up tourneys, and bet on basically every game on the tournament. Not always productive but always a great time.

Last few years. Sucks. Gets worse over the weekend.
The Saturday schedule for the 2nd(3rd) round of the NCAA tournament is abysmal. I'm going on memory, but there is one game at noon, one game at around 2:30pm, and then nothing until 4:30-5pm, when they jam 3 games on top of each other and then jam the other 3 on top of each other a few hours later.

And to top it off Sunday is even worse. It’s basically the same as Saturday and the last game doesn’t end until after midnight.

I used to go to the first two rounds and always had fun. The schedule was always basically the same. First game would start around noon . The next one usually around 2:30 or so. Game would be over between 4:30 and 5. We’d have a couple of hours to eat and drink between sessions. I was going to go to the Hartford games. And the schedule is just stupid. The first game doesn’t start until 2. So the next game will start at 4:30 at the earliest meaning it won’t end until at least 6:30. So they will have to clear the building. And then the first game of the night session starts at 7:20. No time to really get anything to eat. At least you will be able to buy $10 beers at the games this year.

Yep and I bitch about it every year. The first game ends on Saturday and Sunday and there is literally down time with no games going on. And then come like 430-5 there are 3 games going on at once. What's the point. I'm sure they have calculated the effect on ratings but man does it seem so dumb.

Last year Saturday and Sunday scheduled start times were the same and of course the later games usually started later than those scheduled times:

12:10
2:40
5:15
6:10
7:10
7:45
8:40
9:40

And to make matters worse the first three games on Saturday were a 23 point Nova win followed by 25 point win by Duke. And then Kentucky beat Buffalo by 20.

Yeah. Should be more like this IMO:
12:10 (pod 1 game 1)
12:40 (pod 2 game 1)
2:40 (pod 1 game 2)
3:10 (pod 2 game 2)
5:10 (pod 3 game 1)
5:40 (pod 4 game 1)
7:40 (pod 3 game 2)
8:10 (pod 4 game 2)

So there would always be games going on. The games would all end by ~10:30pm. You'd have games ending as other games start so missing tipoff or the first five minutes to watch the end of a tight game wouldn't be a big deal. As the Bill Simmons line goes - who says no???

They don't want the last game of day tipping off at 5:30 on west coast.

I can't stand this, especially on Sunday. Maddening to have a game start at 9:30 at night.

The Super Bowl kicks off at 3:40pm on the west coast and ends around 7. The last game would end around 7:30-8 west coast time.

Edit: this wouldn't be as big of a deal if all teams played within their geographies. But there will be some eastern time teams playing in western time zones. That's pretty unfair to their fans.

My gripe is the first wave of Thurs/Fri. It used to be something like 12:15, 12:25, 12:30, and 12:40. Now they spread them out from 12:15 to 2:00. The evening is what they have always done. Sat/Sun is a separate thing because there's less games and more networks so I don't see a problem with that.

Kind of wrecks that initial wave of excitement but it does make it easier to get last minute bets in if you do that sort of thing

Boola vs Boudin tip-off in 5 minutes. I think this is going to be a good game. Almost too many people picking the Yale upset, though.

I like Minnesota, so it's worthwhile enough. And it's always fun to root against Louisville.
I'm rooting for Louisville. 1) non-Duke ACC 2) Tomorrow's Red Sox game. "Minnesota Nice" is a stereotype because it's true.

The line opened at 10 at the first shop in Vegas to put out numbers on Sunday, immediately went to 8, and is now down to 6.5

I had Jones calling a timeout down 5-0 with his team clearly not settled in. He didn't now they are down 9. I hated his defensive schemes in the Ivy Championship Game too. They are still fine though with this being a high possession game with a ton of 3's being launched.

So awesome hearing Richard Pitino talk about "deflections" to sideline reporter. It was his father, much loved in these parts, who was the innovator in tracking deflections at Providence in the late 80's in both games and practices. It was the foundation of their defensive scheme. Chills.

It will be interesting to see how Louisville responds since Minnesota completely altered their gameplan. 50% of their shots were threes and they are near the bottom of Division 1 in threes as a percentage of total FGA

Yale better buckle down, or this one can get out of hand.
Looks like it already is since they are a pretty bad defensive team and you need stops to get back from down 16. Oni, Reynolds, and Bruner shooting a combined 3-19 including 1-11 from three......to have any chance they are going to have to go on a barrage from behind the arc.

UVM playing really, really good perimeter defense as they usually do. I did not think they could man them up due to the size, but their guards are bothering the shit out of FSU and not letting it get inside.
