where I was last at
We had some luck with his brother.

Marty was better at staying on-sides.

If the talk is the Eagles are going to cut him/not pay him, Eagle leverage would seem modest. 6th rounder?

Love it, assuming the compensation is reasonable (which it probably will be, given that the Eagles were reportedly considering an outright release). Bennet was still a great player last year.

Please don't let this mean Flowers is gone.
Flowers was never coming back unless he was willing to take a discount anyway. If he’s still willing to, he’ll be back. You can cut 94 and add Bennett for just 3 million in cap space anyway. Talk about a massive upgrade.

Plus, as I said, this probably brings Marty back, too.

True and true. It's a really nice consolation prize.

The Patriots have a need to beef up the DL. I don't see Bennett and Flowers as being an either/or, especially since Flowers does much of his business coming up the middle

Bennett's 2 years are both non-guaranteed. No dead money either year.
Could the team trade for him, then restructure his contract with a signing bonus to free up cap space this year but include a team option for the next year in the new contract, then decline the option next year and pick up a comp when he signs as a free agent somewhere else? Basically trade (draft pick this year + salary space next year) for (a good player this year + a draft pick in two years).

Right but Bennett does some of his business on the inside as well, and if teams are willing to go to 17 for Flowers (Miami?), we’re likely done here.

I'm not sure, but I don't think that passes the smell test. Bennett certainly wouldn't agree to this.

Man, I thought Michael Bennett was a Patriot when Seattle decided to trade him. Better late than never.

Has there ever been an NFL team where it had TWO sets of brothers playing on the same roster?

Bennett is great insurance in case Flowers leaves but I don't think it meaningfully alters our chances of retaining TF. In any deal for Flowers, it will be possible to drive the first year cap charge down to negligible levels if the team wants to do that so there isn't really a current year cap issue. Flowers may - indeed, probably will - still get too pricy for us but signing Bennett doesn't change that.

We’ll probably end up getting a 6th back, too lol. They always miss that stuff first go-round.

The Philadelphia Eagles have informed Michael Bennett that they are planning to trade him to the New England Patriots, the defensive end told ESPN's Josina Anderson on Friday.

The terms of the deal are being finalized, a source confirmed to ESPN. The Philadelphia Inquirer was first to report that a trade was close to completion.

Bennett told NFL Network earlier Friday that he was looking for a pay raise. He has two seasons remaining on the three-year, $31.5 million contract extension he signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2016. Seattle traded him to Philadelphia last offseason.

The 33-year-old Bennett told Anderson that coach Bill Belichick has been fond of his game.

Bennett has averaged about QB hits a game for the last four years.

Our highest guy has been Flowers, with about 1.5 per game.

Not sure how the money will work out, but this would be a pretty sweet short-term deal. Bennett has a lot left in the tank, and if Flowers stays...man the pass rush will be pretty solid.

I don't see why they couldn't. They are allowed to restructure.
Bennett could very well agree to it. None of his salary is guaranteed so he's not really giving up anything.
Of course if he's asking for a raise then he's likely not going to agree on anything that doesn't include a bump in money this season.
But I've also seen reports that they asked him to take a cut.

If the Michael Bennett-to-New-England trade is finalized - and it is expected to be - Patriots and Eagles will swap 5th- and 7th-round picks in the 2020 draft, per a league source. Eagles get a 5th; Pats get Bennett and a 7th.
Every time BB makes a trade, the initial report on picks is wrong or incomplete, it’s amazing.

Now let’s see what Michael does regarding a raise. Maybe he plays for a bit less if Marty joins in.

Whatever happened to that weird assault case he had?
DA has pushed the court date 6 or 7 times, now scheduled for March 27, 2019. Seems like the police chief came out hard on Bennett for PR reasons, then some partial footage that didn't back up the "witness" statement came out, and since then the DA has been desperately trying to avoid bringing it to court, but can't just drop it because that would be a story too. They're going to basically desk drawer this sucker for years with delays.
