I stand by the first half Llorente opinion.

Had a much better 20min though, dunno how much was playing more to his strengths vs. how much was just that he could not have been worse.

Danny Rose also wanted to come off with an injury before Sissoko was the last substitute. This team does not have a normal amount of injuries

I mean, with the squad as banged up as it is, would losing in PKs be horrible?

You can say you made a valiant effort today and lost only due to PKs.

Tough loss; can't expect more out of the talent we currently have; but would love for this team to actually win a trophy, even if it's just the Carabo Cup.

Boy I never thought I would be a big fan of Qatar's soccer team but there is a time and place for everything.

There is nothing more Spursy than the fact that they would have advanced on away goals in any year before this one.

Glad to have Sonny coming back, they should be something approaching fine if they can get him back, get great play from Lamela & Moura and find a way to either get GNK or a replacement integrated. That's not asking for too much, is it?

California. Duh.

I believe under the old rules the game would have gone to extra time, and if it was still tied at the end of that 30 minutes, then the away goal rule would have come into effect.

Aurier still trying to bring Rabiot in.

Since Tottenham lately has turned into the Island of Misfit Parisians, there’s clearly room for one more player, and Aurier took to Instagram to make a not-very-subtle plea for Rabiot to head to north London.
PSG have made affirmative noises indicating they’d be willing to make a cut-rate deal for Rabiot now before they lose him for nothing this summer. Reports were Pochettino was making contact with Rabiot for a last-chance pitch to try and bring him here.

Rabiot’s attitude issues are well documented, but he’d waltz into Spurs’ starting XI and would immediately be their best central midfielder. He’d also join a club where “shithousery” is both embraced and (occasionally) encouraged. I’m not ashamed to say that I’d LOVE for this to happen. I still don’t think it’s likely, but a little extra pressure from some of Rabiot’s old French mates can’t hurt, right?

Have to think that De Jong signing for Barca improves Spurs' chances here.
Even after that, he's apparently told Spurs he's not interested. Which is unfortunate, as he'd be such a perfect Dembele replacement. And as Cartilage Free Captain said, his shithousery would fit right in at Spurs.

Picking up three points while four of the other Big 6 drop points is huge, and Watford has been a pretty solid side this year. Getting Son and Moura back is obviously a big boost to the offense.

Danny Rose has been GREAT these last EPL two games as a wingback. With a thin roster they’ve needed someone to step up and create some chances for them and he has delivered.

Word is that Son was physically and mentally drained when he got back to the club but said he could do it. He's amazing.

Apparently he did have cramp at end of game.

Awesome article on Deadspin by Billy Haisley. Here's my favorite quote:

That Pochettino’s Tottenham have finished fifth, third, second, and third in the table since he took over in 2014, with probably another top-four finish on the way, all while the club has been radically and regularly outspent by five other English teams, means their accomplishment stands right alongside or, I’d argue, sits atop those others. Like Arsène Wenger’s two-decade stretch of consecutive top-four finishes with Arsenal while getting vastly outspent for much of it, Tottenham’s recent run is the stuff of fairy tale. The only problem, as Wenger eventually found out, is if you string along a fairy tale without eventually getting to a happy ending, fans start to forget just how charmed life truly is.

Clubs generally do the vast majority of their transfer business in the summer, not in the winter. But Tottenham are different: they bought as many players in the winter window as they did in the summer window.

Son is just immense for this team. Also, Sissoko is my MOTM. He was doing everything and the strength of the team was basically wherever he was on the pitch. Ridiculous that they did this without Lucas or Lamela seeing the field.

It's only fair based on what we're dealing with.

But now Pulisic likely starts and I gotta root against him.

Two depleted teams. Dortmund are missing their top two scorers and Spurs missing three of their top four (if Lucas can't play).
I'm hearing pretty solid rumors that Rose is out as well (davies still injured). Which leaves.... I don't know, Vertongen or Sissoko to play out right?

Vertonghen is probably most likely, he's spent a fair amount of time playing LB in the past, although not much recently. They could also play Aurier or Trippier on the left, with the other on the right. Kyle Walker-Peters can play on the left. He's played there at youth level for both England and Spurs, but obv. never in a game of this magnitude.

Just please no more Son at left wing back experiments. Once was more than enough.

In fact Vertonghen just had a press conference (or was first up at the CL presser) where he said he's fully prepared to go in at LB if Rose isn't fit.

So maybe looking at Aurier, Sanchez, Toby and Jan in a back 4?

I'm pretty sure KWP played at LB for Spurs during the game at Camp Nou. He'd probably be my pick.

Yep, he started and had the give-away that led to the early Barca goal. I wouldn't say I'm "comfortable" with him in there, but against a somewhat depleted Dortmund side, I'm not "petrified".

Yeah he wasn't perfect; but he started in a massive game against Barcelona in the UCL and didn't totally cost us the game. He doesn't have a lot of experience but he did alright for himself in a difficult situation.

I thought this too, but I looked it up and he actually started at right back, with Danny Rose playing left back. We remember him at left back because he was covering that side when he gifted Dembele the goal, but that play came directly following a cleared set piece when everyone was out of position.

You are exactly right. I was going to look it up and then said to myself "No, I remember him getting roasted on the Dembele goal".

So Pulisic (speaking as a USMNT fan here) gets to run at a Belgian national all day? Good experience for him.

A tidy 3 goal advantage and a clean sheet, not conceding an away goal. Just a normal night out on a Champions League Wednesday for Spurs.

Get one in Germany and Dortmund will have to get 5. As is, just defend well enough and we're through.

Vertonghen to LB permanently?!

Son is on some kinda roll.
I wish ?Lucas had crushed that volley in the first half that he barely missed.

What this team has done in the last 6 weeks is astounding. The defense is a rock, the MF has blossomed, and the attack is finishing its chances. On top of all that, they are showing the resolve to win tight matches and get results. COYS!

Kane was back training with the squad today and hasn't been ruled out for this weekend's game against Burnley.

Bump for the match against the Blues. Hopefully the circus that is Chelsea continues and Spurs can take advantage. Going to be tough at the Bridge regardless.

The metal clang the net makes when the ball hits the back of it is just so damn satisfying.
