Not seeing anyone else reporting this as a done deal, but I’m sure that’s just a matter of time.

Seems like a great deal for both sides. The Phillies get the best offensive catcher in the game, and he’s cost-controlled for two seasons. In return, the Marlins get one of the game’s premier pitching prospects and a serviceable replacement for Realmuto, who was going to be long gone before the Marlins are ready to contend anyway.

Long-term extensions for guys with 3-4 years of service aren’t fashionable anymore, but this seems like a situation where such a deal would work for both sides — the Phillies would gladly pay up to secure Realmuto for 5-6 years, and how confident can Realmuto possibly be that some team two years from now will be eager to make a huge investment in a catcher on the wrong side of 30?

The others seem to be LHP Will Stewart (in the top 20 Phillies prospects) and an international bonus slot.

I agree this is a good deal for both teams. It'll be interesting to look back at this one in 3 years. I'd rather have the Miami side, but if the Phillies make the playoffs the next two years, they really can't complain.

The Philly side looks a lot better if they sign Realmuto to a 5-6 year extension so that they control him through his age 32 or 33 season. If he’s a cornerstone piece of the next good team in Philly, they won’t regret it even if Sanchez realizes his full potential. If Realmuto walks after 2020 and Sanchez becomes a cost-controlled ace, however, that’s a disaster.

The Marlins may have made a trade that helps themselves? That's a novel approach for them.

Giancarlo Stanton is a 29-year old corner OF who hit 266/343/509 last year and is owed $270 million over the next decade. Trading Stanton away was a shitty way for the Marlins’ new ownership to introduce themselves to the fan base, but it will help the team in the long run.

It's not completely the Marlins fault. He did put them in a no-win situation but it seems like they could've done better. His contract isn't outrageous. He was going to opt out after the 2020 most likely but that would give a team 3 full seasons. None of the other teams that he would go to stepped up. The Yankees did and got a bargain, IMO. Good for them.

That’s good news. I figured I was going to wake up some day and see Realmuto trades to Yankees for Romine, Bird, and Wade.

Agreed, though I wouldn't be surprised if Will Stewart outperforms Sanchez through his pro ball career. Sixto's already suffered multiple injuries to his pitching arm. Nothing major (I suspect the phillies shut him down for the season more out of caution), however, the elbow inflammation last year concerned me.
