Yeah, if this is it, I would love to have seen one last spike. That said, if it's Gronk displaying ludicrous athleticism, hands and want-to down the seam, FOLLOWED BY Gronk plows the way for the RB to score a TD with ease...that encapsulates his entire Gronk-ness pretty damn nicely.

Yeah, that kinda surprised me. Being the QB you would think TB12 would lobby BB to go for it. Hell no--"kick the FG and the game is over."

The other thing that struck me is that the slow-mo really illustrates how tight Brady's spirals are compared to the wounded ducks that Goff was throwing up there.
I think he throws a better spiral now than he did as a youngster.

Sorry if posted elsewhere, but Marty Bennett’s pre-game prediction.

He's a good one.

Inside the NFL from u/timnog on reddit. The talking head intro stuff is cut off from the beginning but the highlights are there.
Good stuff and thanks very much for sharing.

- The Brady and Edelman in sync bit where they had the same actions/gestures on the sideline was pretty funny.
- Pretty cool to see how engaged the defense was when Belichick was talking them up on the sideline and encouraging them to get vertical. Every defensive player in the frame was clearly fully listening to every word he said.
- The moment seemed too big for McVay. I'm sure he is a great head coach and he will learn from the experience but he seemed to be over his head in this game.
- Thank goodness for Jason McCourty. The throw to Cooks in the back of the end zone was a wobbling duck which allowed McCourty enough time to break up the play. A better throw from Goff and the game would have had a much different complexion.
- Only one snap inside the red zone for both teams combined. Unbelievable. I'm not sure that will ever happen again in a Super Bowl.
- Edelman "They can't cover me."
- Cooks was not going to catch the potential TD that Harmon got credit for breaking up. The ball was already bouncing off of Cooks before Harmon made contact with him. Gilmore's arm bar was the deciding factor in the play which prevented Cooks from getting two hands on the ball.

I have to be totally honest.... I'm not sure that will happen again in an NFL football game. I need @Brand Name to find out when the last time it happened was (mostly because I would have no idea where to start looking).

Heh, thanks. This one is a whale to find. My method at present is checking the box score for every game that had 16 or fewer combined points, as I suspect anything higher would allow for too many opportunities, plus that gives this year's combined total to use as a historical note. Thereafter, I immediately remove any games with FGs made of 38 or less, implying at least two red zone snaps existed, if the kick was not to end a half.

I plan to fully answer this but based on my criteria it's before BB signed as HC of the NEP.

The bolded really stuck out to me. Wise was paying 100% attention to every word Bill said, and I'm sure what he was saying was stuff that had been said 100 times during the week since it was clearly their focus. Theses guys know their coach is the best ever and they know listening to him is their best chance of winning, you figure they know that but that one shot told me for sure they do.

Michael Irvin is a national treasure. He's exactly right that the Rams seemed to just think it was any old Sunday. Pats knew it was all or nothing. Attitude matters. Leadership matters.

McVay treated the Super Bowl like an interesting puzzle or something. So strange. That halftime talk? Yuck.

Brady's daughter to Jules is my favorite: "Are you happy?"

"Yeah, I'm happy."

Michael Irvin stopped by WEEI (I think) on radio row a couple of days before the Super Bowl and he was fabulous - lively, funny and with a lot to say. He talked a lot about Cooks then, saying that the Rams were a better fit for him because he didn't like having to go across the middle of the field where he might, you know, have contact with an opponent. He said that's how the Patriots wanted him to play, but not the Rams. I'm not sure how much the Pats wanted him to go across the middle, but it seems correct to say that he didn't do so well on the Pats when challenged physically. It seems as though he likes to turn on the jets, catch the ball and get tackled quickly without putting up a struggle. But back to Michael Irvin - on that day at least, he was a GREAT commentator - engaging, witty and thoughtful.

Did Mic'ed Up air last night? I forgot to record it. I'm wondering if there are any additional clips in there beyond what was shown in NFL Tonight. Anyone have a link?

Mic'd Up did air, and it had some new clips. One thing I think was new was after Donald's massive throw-down of Brady late in the first, a ref warned him (paraphrasing) "Be smart. I almost threw on you. You gotta be smarter there."

This was good. How it should be officiated in the playoffs.

We've talked about it this a bit. That game was officiated very well. A lot of stuff was let go, and they just let them play on both sides of the ball.

I agree with the overall point that the game was officiated pretty well.

I think the teams played smart and disciplined.
I do not agree with "letting them play" or calling it differently because it was playoffs. This line of thinking leads to non-calls like in NFCCG. Call it the same from the first quarter of week one to the final whistle in the Super bowl.

Turning Point tonight!
I checked the NFL Network schedule as well as the NFL Turning point schedule... I'm an idiot - none of those pages say it will be on tonight. Where are you getting that from? I want to watch.

Aaron Donald is incredibly annoying in this. He just says the same dumb phrases 5 times in a row. Most of the Rams, including their coach, come off pretty badly.

My wife listened to him during his pregame and asked whether he had Tourette's

I’d say the Rams came across as nervous. From the top to the bottom. The moment was too big for them.

I put this elsewhere, but when they showed Goff during the anthem, my wife said he looks scared and asked who it wa. When I told her, she said, "Oh, that's not good."

Agreed. I’d never say to his face as I don’t want to get ripped in half but I would’ve given anything for one of his teammates or coaches to tell him to shut the hell up.

I thought he came off well when he said that he doesn’t get a lot of 1:1s, so he’s got to win them when he does. Haven’t watched micd up yet tho.

Turning Point has a great breakdown of the J McCourty breakup. Same play happened earlier in game but there was too much pressure to get the throw off. Both teams recognized it and knew it would come up again. Gilmore was the one who dropped his man, but J-Mac was only there because they saw a potential weakness in the previous run of the play.

I had a pretty good impression of Sean McVay before this game but watching these clips and his post game interview changed that. He came off as egotistical, nervous, and obsequious to BB somehow all within a 4 hr span. Even his quote "I was outcoached" makes it all about him rather than the players. It seems like he was treating the SB as genius vs. genius chess match and discounting the role of the actual players. Contrast that with BB who ALWAYS after a big win says "all credit goes to the players." And even Wade Phillips said something similar in an article I read pregame. Talking about Brady and Pats O he said "you can't outcoach the great ones, you have to out execute 'em." I think McVay can learn from this. He seems like he could be a great one if he learns from experience.

Does Donald maybe have a little bit of that Edelman "i know I'm mic'd up so let's ramp it up a bit" attitude to him? I love Jules to pieces, but I always thought he might be laying it on a bit thick at times. But with full disclosure, I love it, and I'll watch it over and over and get emotional while doing so.

Of all the post game shows I've seen, Turning Point blows them all away, learning so much watching it.

Man oh man, on the John Simon deflection McCourty had a pic 6 served up to him on a silver platter.

And the on the field stuff post game is tremendous.

I agree.

He looks like a kid that doesn't belong there and has no confidence in himself. His motivational stuff on the sidelines is all just...weak.

I could be very wrong, he has to be a good coach to do what he's done with them. But he doesn't come off strong at all.

In the simulacrum
lol @ Bill complaining about the roof being open for the kick off.
This was mentioned in another thread and I had no idea what this was about until now, but you can just tell right there that this game was over before it started. Goff also looks just thrashed in this footage in ways that were less clear on tv.

Also, when did the Pats become so lovey-dovey? It is adorable!

"Hey Jarod...you're doing great man, we're good."

(After the pick to Gilmore with 4 minutes left)

Nice.

EDIT:
after the FG to make it 13-3, McVay exuding no confidence speaking to Goff. Stuttering mess.

Brady's "hey!" to BB is genuine happy. Nice to see.

That Slater to Jules "You MVP?" bit still makes me well up. Amazing moment.

Gronk and Bill at the end is so strange.

The chandler jones trade wouldve been justified just by watching that TD drive. Joe Thuney stoning Aaron Donald multiple times.
I don't know what the scouting community think about him aside from some recent buzz which was positive but the advanced stats and their hybrid stats and scouting community love Thuney. PFF had him as getting to be near elite and has a clear linear trend of progress from year 1-3. Last year and going into this year with the idea that Wynn might replace him as a guard, I was disappointed by the return from that trade. Even considering Mitchell's health ruining his promising career I think we might have the best interior line in football from a UDFA, a 4th, and Thuney's 3rd. Sometimes all you can do is :)
