Just to make it SoSH official, Gomez has a broken leg.

Liverpool can confirm Joe Gomez sustained a fracture to the lower left leg during the 3-1 win at Burnley on Wednesday night.

The defender needed to be substituted after 23 minutes at Turf Moor following a challenge from which he was unable to continue.

Gomez’s injury was further assessed by the Reds’ medical team at Melwood on Thursday.

Initial indications suggest the 21-year-old is facing a spell of up to six weeks out of action, though this is dependent on how his treatment and rehabilitation programmes progress.

Double fuck - Matip out for 6 weeks with a broken collarbone, and Trent had a scan on his foot today and is likely out against United.

Fabinho, Milner, and/or Wijnaldum likely to play RB and/or CB over the course of the upcoming 5 matches in 19 days

Robo has done some time at central defense in the past and if memory serves correctly, plays in a back 3 with Scotland....another formation and tactics tweak? Good Lord, I hope not....but the back 4 is currently in poor health and options aren't exactly glowing with potential right now....

Robbo usually plays Left Wing Back for Scotland, with their other good left back Tierney playing left center back.

They also have Clyne.

I think it'll be Robbo, VVD, Lovren, Milner against United on Sunday

California. Duh.
If things stay as they are, here's the teams Liverpool can draw:

Dortmund
Barca
Porto
Bayern
Real
Juve

Needless to say, Porto is the dream draw. But against anyone with a makeshift back line is going to be scary.

Good news is that with breaks, healing time is 6 weeks, so both Matip and more importantly Gomez should be back by February....match fitness may be an issue, but they should be back barring rehab issues

In order of preference: Porto, Real (F them), Dortmund, Bayern, Juve, then Barca.

So we've now played every other team in the league (19) and Alisson has conceded 7 goals - the same number he conceded in two games against us in the CL semi for Roma last season.

Forget this increased revenue. It will be nice if they can get Adidas or Nike kits that actually fit normal people.
I always wondered about this. I guess soccer players are generally not large people. So a large size would be the general population equivalent medium or small? Good luck with x-large.

Also, a huge portion of kit sales are in Asia - where, once again the population is considerably smaller than North America.

4 points clear with both City fixtures out of the way and Spurs @ Anfield yet to come. If you’d asked anyone in this thread on 8/1 I think we’d all have taken that.

Hoping for a full reserve 11 v Wolves on Monday, FA Cup is tertiary right now given the club’s league position and CL KO tie. Ideally:

Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Hoever, Moreno, Henderson, Jones, Keïta, Lallana, Origi, Sturridge

I’d add Solanke and Camacho but it seems they’re headed out on loan

I was hoping this thread title would be a silly joke and not, you know, an unfortunate prediction.

Boring James Milner hasn't been as funny as Real James Milner for awhile, but that was a good one.

Mané needs a little break. I appreciate how much he's developed, but he needs to put the two seemingly exclusive parts of his game together. He needs to finish consistently and play within the system. He's rarely done it. Yesterday, the one on one with Ederson officially earned him the name Sadio Benteke in our house.

There's no argument that this year's success is built around the stingiest defense we've seen in Anfield in memory. It's absolutely predicated on Van Dijk and Alisson, but #4 needs a decent pairing. Lovren ain't it. The injuries sustained right before the holidays were literally worst case, but the team came through silly season four points up. It's hard to feel negative about that. Regroup, rest, get healthy, and get ready for the run-in. Liverpool win it this year.

I think Lovren is perfectly fine in the #3/4 CB role. I think Klopp views him as his #3. Was just really unfortunate Gomez got hurt.

It took a wonder strike from Agüero and the margin of about two inches to beat them. The margin for the Stones almost own goal was I think 11 mm. The Sane deflected goal was a margin of a couple of inches. (For you metric system deprived folks)

And they didn’t even play particularly well to boot.

They lost a game .. move on.

Doesn't make sense to me. I get that they have players in midfield who can cover at RB, but Clyne acquitted himself well against United and should be in consideration for a rotation spot. With Gomez and Matip still out, this is prime time to get Clyne some reps and weather a softer part of the schedule before UCL starts back up.

Maddock's take is that Klopp believes Hoever is close to first-team readiness, but it seems nuts to me to deplete the squad depth on that belief without Hoever having played any first-team matches

That's actually a lot of cover at RB if they are confident in Gomez's healthy return. Plus, it's the right thing to do for Clyne - keeps him happy and, presumably, keeps locker room grumbling in check. Plus, if the Cherries pick some or all of the £70k/week wages, that's useful, too.

Let's see what they do with Lallana, Solanke, and Origi. The former two need time on the pitch to regain their form an continue developing, respectively. With Origi, it would be nice just to get some return on the investment.

Edit: Looks like it was a productive meeting with Bournemouth - Solanke transferred.

I was talking with my buddy during the match and I remarked about how similar the lineups, tactics, squads, etc. were, but that MANC had a huge advantage in terms of squad depth. But, looking at that lineup, it's pretty dang solid. MANC still gets the nod for depth--any club that has Aguero and Jesus and doesn't start both likely will--but I don't think any club in the world can match Sane, Silva, Bernardo, Sterling, KDB, Mahrez. It's remarkable MANC can keep all those players considering PT concerns. Silva is likely gone next year due to age, Sane may push for a move to get more consistent PT, and I still think Jesus gets a ton of interest from RM, but I guess the wages will keep enough of these guys there not to worry.

Lovren goes down 5' into this one with what looks to be a hamstring or quad issue. Hoever is being subbed on.

Sadly, Lovren can continue to hurt us from the treatment room given the injury situation...
Ugh, but it's nice to see the kids getting some time on the pitch. Really, I'm just pulling for a decisive outcome in this match - won or lose, just please for the love of god no replay.

Well that was ugly. Not sure what Milner was doing both in midfield and tracking back there

Ditto Fabinho in that CB role diving in at midfield

Holy shit, Origi

Klopp looking like he realized a replay may be on the cards

And of course Mignolet gets beaten from 35 yards

Not surprising or that problematic to drop out at this stage, I'd say....and the fact that Hoever got some time and didn't look to be swimming out of his depth to be honest is about the best take away from the game

Camacho put in a good shift, too. But Hoever was very impressive having come off the bench to play CB. Maybe the squad won't miss Clyne after all.

The problem is getting playing time for the squad players. That might have been Mignolet’s last appearance in a Reds kit. And the youngun’s are not going to see the field without a bunch of injuries.

Was really impressed by Hoever .. the kid showed excellent pace and a real awareness of his surroundings.
