That's all folks. Too late in the season to even consider adding anyone off the streets. I gotta think we will see a little more Dwayne Allen as well as some more 2 RB sets with White lining up in a slot position. Damoun Patterson is on the practice squad but i have no idea what he can do.

IOW, basically, the exact same depth chart they went into the season with (factoring in the expected return of JE11).

Didn't they add Austin Collie around this time years back? (Nope. They signed him on Oct 3 and he played in 7 games.)

I know it's a long shot with the way things soured after his release in August, but it would be cool if Malcolm Mitchell's knee is fully healed and the Pats brought him back in for a workout.

edit:

this recent-ish article makes me think that his relationship with the Pats could be mended, but maybe his knee needs more time.

https://www.bostonherald.com/2018/10/25/malcolm-mitchell-is-still-a-fan/

He underwent a knee surgery two days after his release from the Patriots. Mitchell continues to aggressively rehab, building strength in and around the knee so he can once again “handle the day to day process of playing in the National Football League.”

“My No. 1 priority in terms of football is to make sure that the next time I step on the field it’ll be for a substantial amount of time, not to go through the same cycle of injuries again,” Mitchell said.

The rest, he said, is up to his agent. He’s not putting a target date on a potential return to the league.
Now living in his home state of Georgia, Mitchell’s typical day begins with 6:30 a.m. yoga. From there, it’s knee rehab and then a “regular workout.”

“I love Boston, I love the Patriots,” Mitchell said. “I love Mr. (Robert) Kraft, I love Bill (Belichick), I love my teammates. I loved everything about being there, to be completely honest. It’s unfortunate that a situation arose to where I’m no longer there performing with the team, but I will always consider Boston, Foxboro, the New England area a place where I can visit. If I’m ever in a situation where I have the opportunity to live there, I’ll do that.”
“Football is one of those uncontrollable things, right?” he added. “You have injuries, you have situations. But the love I have for New England, that’s not going to change.”

Now that I think about it, I bet they bring back Kenny Britt. He certainly knows the system.
I don't think there's any reason to bring in someone else. They certainly have a bunch of skill guys who could use the snaps. Dorsett played 2 snaps last week, Patterson 5, Dwayne Allen 3, they can do some multiple RB stuff, they can work in Hollister a little bit, even Hogan sat out 23 snaps. They don't need depth, and I don't think Britt is likely to be an upgrade.

Brady
RB
5 OL
Gronk

Only leaves 3 more guys

Edelman
Hogan
Dorsett/Patterson

Don’t see a need for someone else unless another guy drops.

I just think if they have the roster spot, fill it with britt so he can get re-acclimated in case someone DOES drop. Living on the edge in this sport is scary

That's probably the worst receiver corp of any of the playoff bound teams. Ugh.
This team put up 505 in the SB with basically the same group. Cooks was knocked out early and then you replace Amendola with Edelman. Obviously, Gronk was better last year, which is the big difference.

Not in a great spot but doable. Running game better get it going.

I would love to see them be more creative with the RBs. In my opinion they have 3 very versatile RBs that can both run and catch the ball. Seems like they could run up tempo and adjust the play call based on the defensive personnel/scheme. I love watching them run up tempo and based off only my memory they seem pretty dang successful when they do it. You got the GOAT running it, trust him.

Yeah, the OL blasting holes for the running game was key to a deep playoff run for the Pats even before Gordon got sidelined. Maybe we see more 2 TE sets or more of the intriguing White-Burkhead combo backfield. The latter helps with pass protection while still giving Brady a receiver option leaking out of the backfield on almost every snap.

Greg Bedard has been calling this a smoke and mirrors offense for a few weeks now. Things only get harder from here without a key ingredient like Gordon. There is a real danger this team does not have the weapons to go toe to toe with a potential Chiefs/Chargers/Colts opponent on Wild Card Weekend.

It's pretty simply that the defense and OL need to step it up. Our ability to win the shootout type games has now taken a material hit but there is still plenty of talent remaining to score enough to beat anyone in the AFC. If the OL blocks like they did in Pittsburgh, then we were going to be doomed even with Gordon. We all know that the defense has limitations but they generally play well at home and are capable of doing enough to win. Getting that 2 seed is now paramount. I'll take a home game in Foxboro against anyone, especially in the Divisional Round where we haven't lost in 8 years. I think this team is capable of winning 1 tough road game. I highly doubt they can win 2.

Eh. The Ravens trot out Willie Snead, Michael Crabtree, and John Brown. You may be all in on Amari Cooper in Dallas, I'm not. Can you name a Titans receiver? Amendola is a top 3 WR in Miami.

And none of them have Brady.

Sure, it just got more difficult, but they've done it before. Gonna be more Burkhead and White.

For one, I hope this means James White's vacation is over. He needs 15 touches a game again.

Dorsett looked pretty good earlier this season. I'm sure he and Hogan will be much more involved now.

Losing Gordon hurts, but this is not crippling. Really hurts depth though, the rest of the WRs need to stay healthy from here out.

Yep. I want to see more of Dorsett and White. Lots more. I think Dorsett is a pretty solid receiver. Pull out the stops to get the last two wins, hope Philly beats Houston, grab the #2 seed, rest, and then prepare for the Divisional Round at home.

How in the world can you discount Amari Cooper? Dude is beasting. Also, Gallup is really improving as the year goes on and Beasely is a great third option. Whereas our third options are a gadget guy who's shown flashes or Chris Hogan, a guy who looks like he's at the end of the line and if he wasn't second or third on our depth chart I'm not sure he'd even have a job in the NFL. I'm glad Dorsett will get more run now. His relegation to bench work was pretty questionable decision, imo.

Baltimore's may be worse, but I'd love to see a guy like Brown in the Pats offense. Wouldn't be shocked to see him put up numbers here with that Brady guy. He's pretty damned good. Crabtree and Snead are serviceable and aren't worse than Chris Hogan-- they're actually putting up much better numbers with a much worse QB situation. And, yes, I can name some Titans receivers because Corey Davis demolished the Pats' soul. He's better than anyone we're trotting out there each week.

It's certainly a debatable point, but they're in the discussion which is discouraging.

I said I'm not "all in" on Cooper. We'll see if it continues. I'm not discounting what he's done recently.

And to your Brown point, if playing with Brady can elevate someone like Brown, then I'm feeling okay about Brady elevating the guys we've got.

I'd love to see this too. One of White/Burkhead/Michel with Develin, Edelman, Patterson/Hogan and Gronk. Force the defense into a base look to account for the run, then you can always split Gronk or White out. Replacing Develin with another RB would be an interesting look as well.
