6/$140M.

It’s refreshing to see the MFY not get a pitcher they wanted. More $ for them to throw at Harpchado.

I will always be happy with Eovaldi’s contribution to the World Series team, but I say let him walk and let the MFY overpay for his services.

I'm guessing that this is the rock that'll get the avalanche started. Eovaldi will be signed in less than a week... I suspect it'll be the Dodgers (edit-or Houston) actually. Yankees will be feeling good about their rotation with their trade with Seattle on SP but will add Machado, an elite reliever and be done. Sox will sign Pomeranz to a one year deal, sign Kelly and repeat as WS champs.

I’m totally fine with this. Let’s get the party started...again.

I would assume this is the Nats saying adios to Bryce Harper
I wouldn’t assume that. I think that would be Rizzo’s call. But with this ownership, I’m not going to count the Nats out until he inks elsewhere.

I don't want the 2018 Pomeranz on the 2019 Red Sox. If they're not pretty damn sure that whatever made his stuff in 2018 a clear step down from what it was in 2017 will not recur then I wouldn't want any part of re-signing him.

Both sides of the argument on this would obviously come down to how much Pomeranz was to be paid. There was some very positive attitudes from Cora that he was finally healthy and had his mechanics back during the playoffs (but at that point, in no way to actually find out).... but if he would sign (and I suspect he would) a one year $2.5M contract... that would be fantastic use of 2.5 million. If he can't handle it as a starter after a month or so (5 starts?) then you transition him to a bullpen arm- he's had experience there and his 2 pitch repertoire may work out there better... and as a $2.5 bullpen option, that isn't too bad either.

Which of Sale, Price, Eovaldi, Porcello, or Rodriguez are you putting in the bullpen to give Pomeranz starts?

Seems like a negotiating ploy and expectations management. I still think 10-$300 is what his market is going to be. He’s not Mike Trout. He’s not Mookie Betts. Hell, he’s not much better than JD Martinez at this point, except age. If you give him $30 million a year, you need the next 10 years to be better than all but 1 of his previous 6. If you give him $35 million a year, you need him to establish new career highs to be worth it.

I think Philly will be willing to give Harper basically what he wants, esp if Machado goes to NY. Dodgers a strong player as well.

I think they are steeling fans for seeing Harper 18 times a year in a Phillies uniform. Little doubt that this is Rizzo’s preference from a value perspective, esp with Corbin signed, catching addressed. Robles slides in. The only question in my mind was whether ownership would go along.

They want to pay Rendon. Some day they will have to pay Soto and/or Robles too. I don’t think this is a difficult decision.

This is a win/win from the team’s perspective and Harper’s too. A good portion of the fan base can be expected to get butthurt about it and paint Harper as the bad guy. Fans always do.

If they let Harper go to Philadelphia, and don’t make further significant improvements, they’re probably a 3rd place team in the Division again. Last year proved they weren’t that good. Without Harper’s presence, I could see the rest of the lineup melting down like the 2017 Red Sox sans Papi. Plus, 2nd base is still a dumpster fire, the league has figured out Roark’s slop, Zimmerman, Doolittle and Strasbourg are delicate pieces of glass, and the bullpen is still woefully inadequate.
