I mean, why even have a season?

So GM Bob Myers has replaced JaVale McGee with ... Boogie Cousins. The $5.3M represents the taxpayer mid-level exception. Cousins is hopeful to return to the court by December/January off his torn Achilles. There will be no rush with Warriors.

Only a plague, plane crash and/or the Disease of Me can hurt them.

The Starting Five is an All-Star team. Literally.

Celtics can run out 3 all stars as starters: Irving, Hayward, Horford--with 2 more hopefully close. We got this.

Next year GSW will sign former all stars to their bench and then the entire roster will be former allstars

Can't believe they got Cousins. I guess we can hope for a slow recovery. Otherwise, we might be looking at the greatest team ever - at least on paper.

This is a helluva injury for a 7-footer to come back from. He won’t be back until December/January at the earliest, and I would be surprised if it is that soon. He’ll be great to have in April/May/June, but he’ll be behind physically and will not have meshed with that team. I mean, it is a great signing — but I don’t think this is gonna change too much with regards to the “super team”. They still will revolve around KD and Steph’s health.

Oh well, I guess we will just be forced to watch 2 homegrown players blossom into superstars to go along with a top 20 PG, Big Daddy Cool and a tremendous comeback story all coached by the best in the world.

No matter what, we will get to enjoy 90+ basketball games played at an insanely high level. No matter what happens, I will be entertained.

This is such a Belichick move. Immediately I thought of Corey Dillon. Similar situation, and GS will only have to deal with him for a year if he turns into a malcontent.

This is going to make sweeping them in the Finals that much more fun. The only problem is we going to win title on an away game.

Pre-season schedule announced: Durant closing out the Key Arena in Seattle is the highlight, plus two meetings with LA-Bron.

It's the BoogieMan we're talking about, you want him back as soon as possible and in that clubhouse.

Man, Simmons is such a lucky bastard. (Haven't listened yet, but in a 90-minute sitdown I'm sure he got some good stuff...)

I have an irrational love of all things Steph and even though I like to mock Sprtsguy33 for his posts here, I am a fan of his as well. That said, this is amazing. Simmons may be the best at getting someone like Curry to be forthcoming given his cred as pundit, a media superstar (he is) and a real fan. Curry doesn't disappoint here either. He is the epitome of effortless cool.

It's that time of year: DeMarcus drains 19 straight threes in an empty gym (and is pissed when he misses the 20th).

Straight? He really skipped top of the arc? Or those ones were edited out? Not that it really matters.
It was reported that he hit 19 of 20. Since he missed the last one, I assumed the first 19 were consecutive, and yeah, that he skipped the top of the arc.

Who knows with these edited summer workout videos, though...

Are you suggesting that Kobe didn’t really jump over that car?

Talk on NBA Radio this morning with Isola and Scal of the Warriors getting ahead of the KD thing and dealing him. Scal said there's simply no one they can realistically acquire for him.

Isola said "What about your boy Tatum?"

They clearly took KD's side in this whole Green thing. No chance they can then trade KD to get ahead of this. I do wonder if a Green deal is possible though.

Durant is a one-year Bird player which may complicate things. One, he would have to approve the trade and Two, (I'm almost certain) he would lose his Bird Rights.

I'd move Hayward and Tatum without blinking. Hate to sound like Simmons but who says no?

I think the Celtics say no. They'd be assuming far too much risk with Durant's contract situation.

They did take KD's side, but people think he's leaving anyway. If the Warriors think that's possible they can't trade Green.

I don’t exactly have my ear to the ground on everything Dubs but where are you seeing rumors that he’s leaving? Why would he?

Imagine trading both Hayward and Tatum, then Kyrie and KD decide to bounce at the end of the year to the Knicks for nothing. Yikes. Suddenly you go from perennial contender to Jaylen Brown + Al Horford.

It's been a constant rumor, partial fueled by stuff his brother said, partially people who cover the league talking about it. Thought is that he wants to get his rings and then go to a team and be the clear #1 and try to get a ring there (Knicks are a common theory)

And apparently part of the dust up the other night was Draymond saying something about it--"We won before you got here, stop being a bitch", and KD responding "This is why I'm leaving".

Green took exception to how Durant addressed him. The exact dialogue couldn’t be recounted as it was said, but it began with Green immediately firing back.

Who the fuck you talking to?
Green accused Durant of making the whole season about him even though he was going to leave after this season. Green let out his frustrations about how Durant has handled free agency — keeping his options open and keeping the story alive, consuming the Warriors and their season with talk of what Durant will do next.

Yup. And now those SAC/MEM picks aren’t looking so hot either. Only way Tatum goes is if AD is coming back our way. Now, if the Warriors we’re willing to take Hayward and the former Cal guy...

The reality is that a team like GS that is in luxury tax hell isn’t going to want Hayward’s deal. He’s probably pretty untradeable right now.

Imagine Kyrie and Durant here with Horford and all of them saying, "Screw you Danny we're going to play for Dolan!!"

Yeah, me neither.

I'm not sure the bolded is correct:

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q32

When a player is traded, his new team inherits his Bird rights. For example, if a player signs a three-year contract, plays two and a half seasons with that team, and is traded at the trade deadline in the third season, then his new team has full Bird rights following the third season.

So he's mad at Durant for doing the same thing basically every FA to be does?
Draymond was wrong to talk about KDs money/contract, wrong for calling him & teammates a bitch and wrong for the play that sparked this whole incident.

Green should get criticized for his decision making and behavior. However KDs role in this is getting glossed over. A teammate made a stupid basketball play - something that happens literally every game, often multiple times per team. KD chose to go after his teammate for that on the court. Its especially noteworthy given the low stakes (early season game for a team that should coast to the one seed) and the result of the bad play was simply overtime.

I would argue that LeBron handled a similar boneheaded move by JR Smith that had much larger ramifications for a championship series much better than KD did for a November game on the road.

In short, KD is a brilliant basketball player but comes off as a really weird guy who may well be a bad teammate. Unless the Cs think this season is their only window, I pass on him.

Durant is a one-year Bird player though. I don't believe the full Bird Rights apply to him. I'm almost certain of this but not 100%.

He didn't sign a 3-year contract with the Warriors. There were player option years he picked up.
Full Bird Rights apply as long as the player is with the team for 3 seasons:

The basic idea is that a player must play for the same team for three seasons for his team to gain Bird rights (two seasons for Early Bird rights). It can be a single three-year contract, a series of three one-year contracts, or any combination that adds up to three seasons (or two for Early Bird).

Well, guys like Klay said stuff like "I can't see not staying here", etc. I think that's what Green wanted.

Whether KD should or not is a personal choice.

Some guys say stuff like that, and then they leave anyway. None of it means anything.
