Hope he enjoys his couch in January
Maybe. But the guy took less money to play for his for his home town, is now a bad thing? If a guy chases the money, he's selfish. If he takes less money, to play for home he's not a competitor. These guys can't win!

I came away from that as having more respect for Irvin, but YMMV.

I'm a little salty because he could have really helped the Pats, assuming he had anything left in the tank. But yeah, if he took less money to play for his hometown team, and that's really all there was to it, then anyone who criticizes his decision is being an ass.

Eh I wasn’t so much bashing him as stating fact. Also, if you chase money to a shitty team that is chasing money. If you take a good offer from the Pats or Steelers that’s maxing out your value AND going to a contender.

After getting ejected Sunday night, the Packers released Jermaine Whitehead.
Did more info ever come out about why he was ejected? The slap at Andrews didn't seem ejection-worthy.
A later replay showed him making a gesture as he walked to the locker room that seemed to imply making a phone call. I wonder if that was related.

Head slaps are worthy of ejection per the current rules. McCarthy thinks that maybe that is too harsh, but said the rules are the rules and you simply can't retaliate.

BB should bring him in for a visit. lol

I know, right? It's almost like he's saying there are other things of value in life besides money or reaching the pinnacle of professional success. What a quaint, ridiculous notion, eh?

Again, not bashing him. He just won’t be playing in January. Apparently playing for his home town team means more. Cool.

I'm not so sure about that. They have won their last 3, their offense is seemingly back on track with Ryan averaging 360 yards, 2.6 TD, and a 120 rating. I know they haven't exactly played some good teams but even in the Bengals loss, Ryan was still fantastic.

Add Irvin to their defense and he certainly helps generating pressure to aid their injury riddled secondary. Their schedule is no cake walk but they may very well play in January.

Yeah...they only have to chase down either the Vikings or Bears. Definitely doable. 538 has then #9 in the NFL now, and up to 44% to make postseason.

I'm assuming he was in shape or else NO wouldn't have signed him but is his year + of "inactivity" possibly (at least partially) to blame? Did he try to do too much, too fast after the layoff?

Training on your own is so much different than going through a football practice at full speed. They said he was overweight and that can lead to injuries like his if he's not in football shape.

Here
Bell unlikely to report lol:
Steelers’ running back Le'Veon Bell is unlikely to report to the team by Tuesday's deadline, which would make him ineligible to play the rest of this season, multiple league sources tell ESPN.

Eh, he’ll still get paid and stayed healthy a year,
I suppose.

He’s going to get a transition tag. So anything he signs, if I’m correct on the rules for it, needs to be a 20% raise and is guaranteed. So, if someone signs him, he will.

I don't know if he will really get more guaranteed than if he had just played under the tag this year.
Seriously. There are only four RBs on non-rookie-deals with guarantees exceeding $14.5 MM - Johnson (~$25MM), Gurley (~$22MM), Freeman (~$19MM), McCoy (~$18MM). Does Bell join them, after a year off, after seeing his replacement replace the bulk of his production?

I'm all for players doing what they have to do to get paid, but Bell cost himself money here.

He should still be the best RB in the free agent market by a mile, will only be 27, and with one year less wear and tear. I dunno, I think someone will pay him.

RBs age in dog years, so 27 isn’t exactly young. I definitely think he’s worth a lot of money still, but if you are an owner and you saw him do this once, wouldn’t you be worried about doling out 50+ million guaranteed to a guy who could just sit out or stop showing effort year 2 of the contract? There also has to be some concern that the Steelers OL has played a pretty big role, given what Conners is doing.

He also has two strikes on their drug policy. Next one is a one year suspension.

Is how well Conner has stepped in a knock against Bell? The Steelers o line hasn’t always been this good during his tenure, but watching a guy a couple years off cancer put up great numbers makes me think Bell might be a bit of a system RB. They’ve always had a top QB and passing game and I wonder how much his patient style would work with a porous line or more men in the box.

Pouncey was drafted in 2010 (1st), Gilbert was drafted in 2011 (2nd), DeCastro draftedin 2012 (1st), Bell was drafted in 2013, Munchak was hired in 2014 and became the lineman whisperer. Foster came undrafted in 2009, kelvin beachum was a 2012 draft in the 7th who worked his way to starting then free agency and then cashed in. So Bell played his whole career with serious draft capital expended in the offensive line but it didn’t become Munchak’s opus until probably 2015 or 2016. Several other UDFA have been developed since Munch came aboard (Hubbard, Villanueva, Finney, Feiler).

ESPN posted an interview with Mark Davis today that makes clear that Gruden places the responsibility for this season entirely at the feet of Reggie McKenzie, to absolutely no one's surprise, and Davis 100% buys it. The Raiders could be very bad for a very long time.

Per yahoo, Chiefs/Rams game may be moved to LA due to concerns about the playing surface after a concert (a month ago) at Azteca.

Per the ESPN push alert I just got, LeVeon not reporting to the Steelers and is now ineligible to play this year.
Cost himself 14+ mil and provided strong evidence for the notion that RB is the most easily replaceable position on the field. Does he have Jody Reed's agent?
