Do we know the start times for the games yet? How do they determine that? I imagine they’d want the games that will draw the largest audience to be in the evening.

I guess I’ll be game one thread starter?
And game two.... and three.... and then game one again and so on...?

I wonder if they will be more apt to give the NLDS a later time slot since they are also playing on Thursday? But I would imagine if it's Sox/Yanks, they'll want them at a 7/8pm start.

Will they wait until Thursday to announce start times? Trying to plan my week to make sure I’m available to watch the Sox games.
Yeah I'm heading to the game with a couple with young children, and they would like to know more than a day in advance of start time for sitter purposes. If it is at 1pm it is an afternoon sitting, but an 8:30 start it's a "leave our kids with their grandparents overnight" situation. All I found, and I bet this is not set in stone, is TBS TV listings show a pregame show at 4:30pm, then 1st ALDS game 5pm start, and 2nd ALDS game 8:30pm start. These games are referenced to as "Game 2" and "Game 3"...so that would mean there would be an NLDS game as "Game 1" at 1 or 1:30pm, then either a concurrent or later NLDS "Game 4". With either the Dodgers or Rockies hosting pending today's game it would make the most geographic sense to have them as the late night game starting at 9:30 or 10:30.

I would like to think we will know before the MFYs/A's game what game time is but last year after the Sox won game 3 against the Astros we had to wait out the MFY/Indian game which started at 7:30 to find out if they were playing at 1 pm or 7 pm.

what's HOU/CLE's broadcast team then? Don and Eck?

hope Johnson is OK but I really don't like his voice

I like Ron Darling - I think he and Keith Hernandez bring plenty of insight, and a little humor, into the Mets broadcasts. But I can't recall that I've ever heard Brian Anderson call a game, as I don't watch Brewers games and I've must have missed him (or forgotten him on prior TBS games (NL maybe?). How is he? Or should I plan on listening to Joe and Tim?

Anderson is pretty run of the mill as a PBP guy. Nothing to avoid, but nothing to get excited about either. He called the 2013 ALDS between the Sox and Rays.

The Astros-Indians series is going to have a decidedly NESN feel to it...Orsillo and Eck with Hazel Mae on the sideline.

He also called the Celtics first round against the Bucks last season for TNT. You could do a lot worse.

Can we chip in and raise a pile of dough to get Orsillo and Eck for the Sox series? Ron Darling is excellent too though. Echo what DS said about Ernie Johnson. He’s really good anchoring the NBA analysis shows with Chuck, Kenny and Shaq, but not so much announcing baseball.

Don & Eck do get CLE & HOU. so close yet so far, it's a shame Don is still considered the "B team" PBP against Ernie Johnson

Hate to break it to you, but Orsillo is "C team" on TBS's roster. EJ was scheduled to do the Sox series while Anderson was scheduled to do Cleveland and Houston. Orsillo wasn't going to work the post-season at all except for EJ's health issues.

Maybe Orsillo's status or ranking with TBS is because he has the full time gig with the Padres, like when he was with the Sox, he also worked part time for TBS. and maybe TNT.

I think Johnson is their #1 guy solely because he's full time with Turner. Anderson is in the same boat as Orsillo in that he has a full time local gig (Brewers). Orsillo started with TBS first (2007 vs 2008) but he took a couple years away from doing national games while Anderson didn't, which is probably why Anderson gets the nod...longevity.

For those wondering about times I looked up last year's Friday match ups which also had all four DS games going. Times (EDT) were as follows (home team first):
2:00 Houston/Sox
5:00 Cleveland/NY
7:30 Nats/Cubs
10:30 Dodgers/Diamondbacks

In 2017, also having four games on Friday, the schedule was:
1:00 Rangers/Toronto
4:30 Indians/Sox
5:30 Nationals/Dodgers
9:15 Cubs/Giants

The hosts for the DS games are going to be (I think; this 163 game stuff has my brain foggy) : Boston, Houston, Mil/Cubs, LA/Col. If it's LA the start times could stay pretty much where they were last year. You'll have one East time zones, two Central and one West. If it's Colorado they may have to shift things up a bit so as not to start that late but who knows, $$ drives this stuff. They did start the Cubs at 8:15 local time so Colorado at a 10ish EDT time isn't out of the realm of possibility.

I don't think the Sox will get the early game either because it's the MFY or they're playing a West Coast team. The West Coast theory is flawed a bit because it looks like the Nats hosted the Dodgers at 1PM in 2016 but that was due to a rainout of their normal game 2 schedule.

In any case I would be surprised if we know what time the Sox are playing before the winner of the MFY/A's game is known.

LA is hosting the Braves so the hosting cities are Boston, Mil/CHC, Houston, and LA. Now that I looked at your links I'm wondering if they flip the Friday division series afternoon and evening slots every year between MLBN/FS1 and TBS. 2016 it was TBS in the afternoon and 2017 it was MLBN/FS1 in the afternoon. If they switch again this year and TBS has the afternoon slots then I could see a 2 pm start for Cleveland/Houston and 5:30 for Boston/Oakland or NYY with NL games going at 8:00 in either Milwaukee or Chicago and 10:30 in LA. If they don't then 5:00 for Cleveland/Houston and 8:30 for Boston/Oakland or NYY with NL games at 2:00 in Milwaukee or Chicago and 5:30 in LA.

LA has to win today before they can host the Braves on Thursday. Otherwise, the Rockies are hosting the Braves and the Dodgers are playing tomorrow in either Chicago or Milwaukee.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
So what's going on with MLB TV and the post season and all that. I don't have a TV and finding out how to watch the games on line isn't very transparent.

Kinsler draws his Umpiring Nemesis, Angel Hernandez, who he is on the record as saying does not belong in the job.

Per Pete Abraham on the Twitters:

"MLB also announced the umpire crew for the #RedSox series. On Friday, Corey Blaser will have home plate with Dan Bellino at first base, crew chief Mike Winters at second base, Angel Hernandez at third base, Fieldin Culbreth in left field and D.J. Reyburn in right field."

It's a bad day for Ian Kinsler who has a history with Angel Hernandez.

Some Kinsler quotes on Angel (story link):

"I don't know how, for as many years he's been in the league, that he can be that bad"

Hernandez "needs to re-evaluate his career choice" because he's "messing with baseball games."

"He's changing the game. He needs to find another job. He really does."

"What is he doing on the field? What is he doing out there? It's pretty obvious he needs to stop ruining baseball games."

Form the same ESPN article:

In 2010, an ESPN survey revealed that 22 percent of players who were asked called Hernandez the worst umpire in the majors.

With Severino now pitching the WC - that probably means Happ versus Sale (perhaps twice) if the Yankees win.

If both of those starters pitch to expectations, that probably means a bullpen game.

Shit, I was really hoping Happ would pitch the WC. Happ is the starter I'd least like the Red Sox to face.

My favorite play by play announcer, Duane Kuiper of the Giants, went off on Hernandez one game so bad that I feared some kind of suspension or something for him. Same thing “how does he have a job...” Kuiper, and his partner Mike Krukow, have nothing to worry about from Giants ownership with regard to any punishment, they are so revered. The league did nothing either. Only time I ever heard those announcers (actually just Kuiper) go off so bad.

I know Happ has done well versus the Sox, minus the grand slams, but I'd rather face him than Severino who has much better stuff.

Severino sadly will probably strike out 13 A's Wednesday night

But . . . . . IIRC........the not-WEEI stations on the RedSox network carry a national feed. (Or maybe I'm thinking about football).
This is correct. Outside of the Boston media market, it's national broadcast only. No Joe and Tim other than on WEEI.

Well if he's striking out 13, there won't be much trouble ... I just see the As as a HR and K team ... hopefully they run in to a few
You're probably right. A's might be very loose, a team with nothing to lose, no expectations until the second half, etc. Hopefully, that translates to hits and runs and shutdown innings from...Liam Hendricks?

Isn't the plan with Hendricks that he is the "opener"? He's not going to throw more than an inning.

As it happens, I'll be in NYC for Oct 11th. IF the Yankees get past Oakland, and IF the ALDS goes the distance, I might just pack my old Nixon jersey and Sox cap head head to then nearest Midtown sports bar to act a fool.

Not normally "Jersey in a bar" guy... but the stars are aligning just so...

Or it means that Happ never pitches in the playoffs because the Yankees got ahead of themselves. The last time that Severino pitched against the As was a wonderful start, if you wanted the Yankees to lose. Severino has great stuff, but Sanchez has shown that he can't catch it consistently. There is no guarantee that Happ will be coming to Fenway unless he plans to buy a ticket.

Their K rate is actually almost exactly league average, and they rank 8th in that category. They rank higher than that in BABIP and walk rate (though not as high, of course, as they do in HR rate). They're not a one-dimensional offense.

My exact sentiments. I'm surprised in that Boone does not have rocks for brains after all. He figures Severino can outduel the A's or at least outslug them. That logic could backfire against him but in the toilet and with Yankees power, I don't think so. Sale MUST rise to the occasion and Betts, Bogey and JD must adjust and figure out a way to get to Happ or it could a 5 game series to the Yanks, On the flip side I'm also concerned about facing the A's as they have power, very good pitching and they could be a surprise team this year.
