I can't be the only one who keeps messing the schedule up and being disappointed--more than disappointed, unmoored and adrift in an unstructured and uncertain future.

And if I am, this thread will die.

Yesterday I watched till the fifth inning. Then I could only watch the last out, so today there will be a game for me, well the eighth and ninth. "Time to party".

On the one hand, they probably deserve a break after the insanity of last night. On the other hand, I'd love to see them ride that momentum into the next game. Oh well, a night off isn't necessarily a bad thing.

For those who missed it, yesterday's game will start on NESN's Sox In Two in one minute. You don't really need to watch the first hour, I reckon.

p.s. Chris Russo was raving on mlbn this aft. about Atlanta's manager giving away the game by taking out the starter, whose name I don't feel like trying to spell right now. He's probably right?

If i’m programming NESN, tonight i’m repeating yesterday’s game with Eck providing Director’s Cut commentary

I'm still surprised some SoSHer hasn't found some way to do this yet.

MLB.com has Phillips HR call by the Braves announcers. The color guy, in the background, "You've got to be kidding me."

Last night, after being out and unable to watch live, I just watched the 8th and 9th about 5 times. Highly recommended way to pass the off day.

After today we have three more off days. Then a couple in October. Then a winter of no baseball.

Even though the baseball is better at the end of summer, there's a part of me that wishes it was still May.

Foltynewicz was at 87 pitches and wasn't due up again until the bottom of the 7th, so yeah, he might have been able to go another. On the other hand, he's at a career high for innings pitched and approaching a career high in total pitches thrown for a season, so there might be some logic to getting him out an inning early with a six run lead and a month to go in the season.

Thanks for that. Also, watching the game right now, I see that the bullpen pitchers all had low ERAs and the right fielder was responsible for a good deal of his team's woes.
And now the awful throw by Camargo.
Also, because I missed the middle of the game, did they take Markakis out of the game just because of the big lead?

In Madison WI it has rained for a month, or more. Today the sun came out and the Red Sox stopped playing. I dont know what that means.

Most days of the year I think a 154 game season would be best, except for days like today.

Agree with your second point. It's really hard to blame the manager for taking a starter out - at most - one inning early when leading by 6 freakin' runs. Managers can't expect or fear their bullpens to blow that big a lead.

Just think about what Cora is facing on his off day. Dinner with Pedroia and his iPad and videos. I would love to be able to hear that conversation.
I miss Dustin.

I can come up with distractions in the offseason, but let's face it - I have the Rogers Hornsby attitude about a winter with no baseball.

I’m just excited to have yet another excuse to crank up Mlb.tv and watch the bottom of the 4th from that August 2nd game again.

The good news is the Sox are 14-5 (.737) in games following off-days this year and 8-2 at home. They've scored 120 runs vs 57 runs against (.796 pythag) and 76 RS v 28 RA at home (.861 pythag). They're also 5-0 when playing games following off-days that weren't travel days with 51 RS vs 12 RA (.934 pythag).

Oh, and Chris Sale is 'opening' tomorrow...

I am conflicted. Which day off is worse, after a thrilling win or after a gut wrenching loss?

I'm relieved when there is no game so I can get some work done.

But that only goes so far...so maybe the problem with an off day is that it reminds us there's gonna be a lot of them come the days of brisk cold winds and snow. Or whatever your Green Fields of the Mind place is.

Remember when newspapers were king? I would love a Sox win on a Saturday so I could bask in all the Sunday paper articles about it. Two thick old Sunday papers with a good sized sports section each.

I think a day off after a loss is worse because you want to get right back on the horse.

I'm ok with having a break today.

Mookie hitting the crap out of the ball, Kimbrel looking like Kimbrel, and JD going bridge yesterday. Give them a day to come down off playing the Astros and get ready for the home stretch of the year.

The only MLB game that matters for the Red Sox today is SEA @ HOU. 8:10 Eastern. We'll find out if the Mariners can accomplish the unlikely outcome of driving the Red Sox' HFA magic# from 5 to 4.
