Duron Harmon

“It’s over with,” said Harmon after the first day of training camp. “I mean it’s all what-ifs now and what-ifs are not going to change anything. So what is the point of going back in the past and trying to go over that and try to find answers when in all reality, it doesn’t even matter anymore in the 2018 season?”

“You just gotta look at what you want to accomplish this year,” Harmon told me. “We know we want to play good football and be in a position at the end of the year to play more games in the winter. So looking at (the Butler situation), that doesn’t have anything to do with that (playing well this year). Malcolm has moved on. He’s with the Tennessee Titans now and it’s time we do the same (and move on).”

“You’re looking at a tunnel and you can’t even see the light right now.”

BB must do some deep shit in the Meeting rooms. Kill Chickens with his bare hands or something and point out that moments ago it was alive and participating in this existence but now its not and nothing can change that now, we must move on without the chicken.

I mean its a fundamental element of humans to ask what if. Especially athletes. And almost every patriot ever during his tenure has bought into the concept that "Whoosh, thats gone and nothing can change that. What can we do with the present opportunity, and the one after that."

I bet we find that BB has YOLO tattooed inside his bottom lip or something.

It's worth noting - they are just as disciplined about doing this after success. How long did they spend basking in the glow of the greatest comeback ever? Win, lose, it's back to work in Patriotville.

Oh I agree Malzone. But that begs the question "why did you feel it gave the team the best chance to win?" That would be a fascinating answer. Because if we have learned anything its that His 50+ years of FB experience has given him a unique perspective.
I agree that it would be fascinating to get the full explanation, but another reason we won't get it is because if he does it once, he will be expected to do it all the time.

This is one of your more vivid and hilarious, um... analogies. Well done.

I can't tell if you meant to describe the religions that, at least nominally speaking, like, half the people on the planet would say they ascribe to as...

Huh. Well, I guess you referred to it as, "some deep shit," so I guess I can't argue with that.

One way or another, well done.

His job is Head Coach, not Head Explainer, and he’s really good at that job. Its hilarious that fans or media think BB owes them fucking anything at this point.

Burton seems to at least understand his role and its moment. Sideline guy for a preseason game. He’s not going to go go out and eviscerate BB tomorrow on some platform for not giving him more.

It’s not just hilarious that they expect or think he owes them something; but moreso they either do it (broad scheme) to get toget clicks on what a big meanie he is; or they have somehow not yet figured out that if you ask him a legit question, you’ll get a fucking mind blowingly detailed response, probably tying back to some coach ornplayer you’ve never heard of, but he’s watched 100s hours of game tape on.

But instead we get Shank asking about benching Butler so he can write about how difficult he is and local sports talk pining about how it was a ‘legitimate question’. He answered it. He thought it was the best decision. Asking him 5000 more times isn’t going to get him to open up, know your audience.

At this point if I had a choice between a truth serum BB answer to “why was Butler benched” or “why is Richards still on the team”, I’d probably rather get an answer to the latter.

You can tell BB respects Burton and appreciates the professionalism he shows in these awful halftime sideline cameos.

Yeah Steve Burton is kind of an idiot / goofball, but I get the impression BB tolerates him because of his dad. I mean, Burton's questions are usually awful, he is terrible at speaking. I don't really understand how he has a job on camera.

As an aside, last week I took a media/communications training at my place of employment. Part of the training was staying on message and I had BB in mind the whole time. I wanted to drop a few "We're on to Cincinnati"s during the session but I don't think anyone else would have gotten the reference.

He has a job on camera because he’s a local guy that was sports director at WBZ after they fired Lobel. I tend to disagree on his talents on speaking, but I’m not sure exactly what you mean by that, I’ve never noticed much. His dad may certainly play a part in it but I also think he’s kind of white listed, to go back to our deflate gate terminology. Yes he’s asking dumb questions but it’s required and he isn’t going to get offended by BB not giving him anything; he knows his place. I’d imagine they have more social interaction than the average dipshit at a PC so BB isn’t going to show him up, we know he won’t do that to certain people; trying to parse out why/who is beyond comprehension imo. He’s one of the most complex public figures I think we’ve ever had the pleasure of in this capacity.

Staying on message, consistency in modus operandi from the top down, and the ability to put the past behind them and focus on what they can still control (like now, today)--all of these things are part of BFB's and the NEP success.

Brad Stevens sometimes drops the last one into casual conversations as well, after games and in interviews--forget the play that just happened, because it's over. Focus on what's ahead of you. There's a time and place for watching game film and learning from your mistakes. But busy people have things to do, so don't celebrate or mope for too long. Do the work in front of you.

Under tims4wins truth serum, I think that Bill would say that it doesn't fucking matter why Butler wasn't playing (his fault or Malcolm's), because they have three more preseason games, cuts to make, and improving to do. I don't think that any of this shit is "performance art". It's what he believes.

It’s what he believes, but he’s raised it to an art form. I texted the interview snippet to three of my children who range in age from 17 to 21. They think it was hilarious. *Angry dad.*

It is funny and unusual because of his consistency (and deadpan sarcasm). Most of us feel an empathy to clue people in, when someone is asking us for something. Even if you think that you shouldn't share, you want to. Not him.

“The strength of the team is built through interpersonal relationships, through face-to-face conversations, through interactions — not SnapFace, your face, my face, InstantFace, or any other face,” Belichick told the crowd. “That chemistry is built through interactions and the ups and downs and suffering defeats and having victories and learning from those and communicating with each other.”

This is about as effusive as praise from Belichick ever gets:

"That was a great job by our players and coaching staff. Just battling for 60 minutes. We talked about that all week," Belichick said. "In the end, we were able to just do a little bit more, do enough. I'm really proud of the way we competed all the way through -- from the opening kickoff to the final kick. It's a great effort. I thought we went out and played hard. I think we deserved it."

It's interesting how he usually calls it the "kicking game" and doesn't usually refer to special teams unless he's talking about the title of the coach -- like the special teams coach.

He breaks it down as three specific kicking teams and three specific kicking defense teams. Just as a matter of semantics it's interesting that it has come to be known as "special teams" rather than "kicking game," especially given the name of the sport is football.

I've never really thought about it, but the three kicking plays really are a major distinguishing feature of football as compared to other types of games where the offense and defense are on the field at the same time -- from soccer, to basketball, to water polo.

He almost almost cracks a grin when he first answers, and then holds it together and then finally cracks a "grin" as he continues to talk and everyone chuckles.

That guy...
Help me out. What does he say? I've listened several times and can't make it out.
