I had just heard of the passing of Rusty. One of my favorites. He played for 4 teams-Astros, Expos, Mets and Tigers. My friend texted me and said he was also the only player to have 500 hits for 4 different teams. I forget how good he was also in the 73 post season for the Mets. They said the cause was organ failure. He also had a serious heart attack in 2015. RIP.

He also played one year with the Rangers.

Not just a great player, but looked like a good person as well.

From the ESPN article:
At the end of his distinguished career, Staub founded the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund. The charity has raised tens of millions of dollars and provided additional support to families of first responders killed in the line of duty.

Elected to the Canadian Baseball HoF. I knew of him and my Dad spoke about him a bit when I was younger, but he was out of the game before my fandom kicked in.

edit/ probably should be moved to the MLB discussion page

He is definitely enshrined in the Hall of the Really, Really Good! He became a really good pinch hitter in his last years. A guy who was a fan favorite and knew how to adapt to whatever conditions he found himself as a player.

I remember really liking his '86 Topps card which made me realize for the first time that the Astros used to be the Colt .45s.

Vlad Jr.'s walk-off could easily be retrofitted as a tribute to the Expos, Vlad, and Le Grand Orange.

When we were kids playing ball, one of the jokes would be to run to first as slowly as possible yelling "Rusty Staub racing down the line" or some such. RIP, dude.

Sad news. I have some of his Mets cards somewhere. I remember that he was a popular card with the kids in the 70s at my summer camp.

Before he moved his restaurant to Fifth Avenue, Rusty's was the place for ribs. On the Upper East Side of Manhattan, it was probably the first time I had baby back ribs.

I "splurged" on a pack '85 cards and I was pissed when he was the best player I pulled in that pack

When I was a kid, I named my orange cat Rusty, after Staub. And I refer to my current oversized orange cat as Le Grand Orange.
