Not that it matters, but why was Morton credited with the W with four innings of relief, when MLB wouldn't give Bumgarner the W with five innings of relief a few years ago?
In 2014, Affeldt was pitching in the game when the Giants took the lead, so he got the win. If the game was tied and then the Astros took the lead while Peacock was in the game, I'd guess it would have gone to him.
Donutogre has bingo.

The rule for when the team leads when the starter exits but the starter doesn't go five is that "the official scorer shall credit as the winning pitcher the relief pitcher, if there is only one relief pitcher, or the relief pitcher who, in the official scorer’s judgment was the most effective, if there is more than one relief pitcher." Morton was clearly the most effective reliever.

In Affeldt's case, the reliever who is in the game when the team takes the lead is the winning pitcher unless the reliever "is ineffective in a brief appearance, when at least one succeeding relief pitcher pitches effectively in helping his team maintain its lead." Bumgarner was great, but Affeldt wasn't "ineffective," so he gets the win.

Because the Sox took the lead in the 3rd after the starter (Fister) exited and the reliever in the game at the time of the lead change (Kelly) wasn't ineffective.

It was a (failed) attempt at a joke ;). I swung and missed, much like Bellinger this series

A lot of talk about Darvish pitch tipping on Mike and Mike just now. Olney said Aaron Boone mentioned it to him as a distinct possibility. Also, Eduardo Perez was apparently swearing up and down that it was happening. Finally, somebody (Greenberg?) said that in the Astros dugout was one of the pre-eminent pitch tipping spotting experts: Alex Cora. Some of the same people thought Darvish looked overly nervous. Who knows.

Edit: the mechanism one of those guys that “saw” the pitch tipping was that Darvish could be seen fidgeting with his fingers in his glove when it was a breaking ball vs. still fingers for a fastball.

Congrats to Houston. A very good & likeable team and an organization that was willing to bite the bullet, endure some awful years to win it all. I probably would have voted Bregman for MVP. Guy just did it all.

Pretty cool that the last last five Series winners have been the Red Sox, Giants, Royals, Cubs, and Astros. Talk about an unlikely run in the historical context of baseball.

The run could continue the next few years with the Nationals and Indians before the return of the Yankees hegemony.
